A time of relaxation in a busy schedule. Champneys fitted the bill perfectly.

Very posh and upmarket. Room I stayed in was a bit dated but the hotel as a whole was very well maintained.
Only downside was I felt out of place as it was too upmarket.

I was really disappointed by our visit. It was £900 for 2 nights in a double room, and we were told that didn’t include the spa, which would cost an extra £70 each for access during the day. I think it’s just way too expensive for what it offers.
The food was pretty mediocre. To add insult to injury, I got food poisoning. No idea if that was from this hotel or not, but it didn’t exactly help.

I stay in hotels 4 nights a week, as long as the hotel is clean and has a decent bed I am usually happy. But the price of the hotel in regards to quality was extremely lacking. I stayed in room 149, and there were lots of simple small things wrong with the room which accumulated.
1: The extract fan in the toilet was extremely dirty (never been cleaned) and didn’t extract anything!
2:The bath panel was falling apart.
3:There was mould all around the bath area - especially the taps.
4:bath had a badly repaired chip
5:wall tiles in bath had not been cleaned (had red dye in the grout)
6:mirror had damage and looked bad
7:wall next to mirror had not been cleaned - dirty marks
8: damage to bathroom door
9: curtain was not fastened to pile and had been previously damaged
Now the good parts - staff were all excellent!
Found it quite expensive for 1 night and reminded me of a BUPA Hospital - all shiny and nice on the outside (lovely grounds and reception areas and area around spa) but behind the scenes (bedrooms) require a lot of attention to bring it up to even premier inn standards

Overall it was ok, the jacuzzi was broken which should have been mentioned during the booking process, it was quite overbooked/crowded and we waited quite a long time for our dinner. The pools definitely could be warmer and certain parts of the spa need some attention/updating. Also the lack of reception answering our calls before we arrived was not great

Hotel on the outside looks absolutely stunning, amazing estate. However it soon turns grim, I came here to scope out for a future conference meeting for a client and booking 10 rooms.
Booking in, fine. Reception guy friendly and told me where to go.
Walking down past the spa area, amazing, very upper class.
Got into my room, Well this is where I suddenly went down hill. Place was so outdated and falling to bits, Major revamp needed. Toilet and shower was broke, spoke to a member of staff.
Told me to use the spa shower and toilets instead, no offer for another room.
I ended up getting my.own tools out and fixing the toilet and shower myself.
The spa was okay to relax in, again major revamp needed around pool and Jacuzzi areas.
They had very loud gothic and classic music playing all night through the speakers outside. Couldn't keep my window open. Night was somewhat sleepless.
Can't even justify the money I paid to stay here, it's worth £60/70 a night at a push.
Went for breakfast next day, selection was awful and nothing topped up. Just left feeling really disappointed and robbed

Lovely hotel but the front of house were about as warm as a winters day ., I get that we arrived early and the room wasn’t ready but nobody offered to take our bag or show us where the restaurant was so effectively we had to wander round the resort for one hour lugging a suitcase and finding our own way , come on champneys you can do better than this

Stayed for work trip. I enjoyed my stay for the most part. The room was suitable for my needs, clean and comfortable. The hotel itself is beautiful and the facilities look great. The service for the most part was lovely, apart from one encounter when I was confronted for being in the hotel in my work clothes (only part of my works clothes I was still wearing were hi-vis trousers, but clean and neat. In reception having just come in from the day). I don't mind this, if there's a way they'd like to present the hotel that is fine. I did however take issue with how I was confronted. I felt the staff member was overly rude and confrontational for an honest mistake. I was told I shouldn't even be allowed to walk to my room to change. My colleagues had said they were also made to feel lesser in the hotel and weren't provided with the welcome items other guests were given, despite also being paying customers. This interaction did create an atmosphere of discomfort for the remainder of the stay unfortunately.

The property was excellent and the facilities, I just didn’t appreciate the housekeeping knocking on my on my door at 10.30am about me checking out.
I also had very nice treatments outside on the terrace but then it was ruined by the hotel calling me 3 times and telling me that I had left the hotel and I need to come back and pay the bill I spoke to a manager and was he was very apologetic over the situation and we were complimented a free bottle of wine
After than that the whole experience was lovely.

On booking with hotels.com we had booked for a superior room on check at the hotel they tried to fob us us with a standard double
Was charged extra on breakfast for latte on our room service which we had to ring reception for as it was late when it arrived it looked terrible everything wrapped in cling film
the ev chargers are next to useless not easy to pay on the card over stay charges etc although not belonging to the hotel they need to take some responsibility for this service especially as website states they have them

It’s a beautiful location with great amenities and a close drive to Berkhamsted which as all of the shops.

Wash hand basin faulty.
Room disappointing for cost.
Booking online VERY CONFUSING.
Terrace cafe staff made a difference and were helpful.
Lecture by ANDI STAPLETON very informative and helpful.

Felt it had lost its magic and spark that it once had. Staff seemed fed up and like they didn’t want to be there. No maintenance or upkeep since my last visit, felt dated and unkept. This once was a leading spa but now just a standard hotel feel.

Good overall stay

Property was in good order and great facilities.
rooms were nice and clean and spacious, only gripe would be that my shower which was over the bath and not a walk in shower needs to be updated as it was creaking whilst showering

Nice but food choice limited and expensive

Hotel was very worn. Very tired decor in some areas. Spa filthy and messy with towels laying around everywhere.

Seems to be difficult for reception staff to welcome you to the hotel or ask you how the stay was on check out. No bar, dont serve beer. Room was mad hot, tired, furniture marked and dirty.
Would not stay again- shame because outside and setting of hotel is great

The stay was wonderful. Apart from one thing. In the morning I had to leave at 7.30 am sharp but I also wanted not to miss my breakfast and have it in a takeaway box.
Right now the staff did not have any boxes and I felt really uncomfortable and unwelcomed to pick any food to take with me. I was given a napkin and was not felt I was really provided a good kind friendly service at all. Quite opposite actually. I felt like a thief.
I think in such a nice hotel it would really help to have take away boxes for customers for convenience. Something to think about anyways.
Kind regards

We stayed at Champney’s Tring for 2 nights.
The staff are friendly, welcoming and helpful however it felt understaffed.
Using the website to book treatments was clunky and no one picked up the phone.
The spa area and facilities themselves are good and clean.
One of the waterbeds was leaking, we informed staff but it was not quickly cordoned off leaving other guests to also get covered by the contents.
The view from the bedroom faced towards the gardens which was lovely. The bedrooms are clean but dated and could do with upgrading. The bed was awful, it comprised of 2 single mattresses pushed together. These were uneven and saggy making you roll to one side. It left me with a sore shoulder, back and neck, not what you hope for when staying at a spa resort.
There was lots of noise from the cleaners in the morning.
The restaurant area looks great. Again this area is understaffed making service slow; food and crockery would run out and not get topped up.
Champneys needs to improve staffing and upgrade the corridors and rooms.

I managed to book a last minute stay for £165 (then had to pay an additional £70 to use spa facilities and £30 for dinner upon my arrival so £265 in total) instead of the usual £500 and I’m relieved I didn’t pay full price.
The staff service was absolutely impeccable. They were polite, attentive but didn’t hover and all appeared to enjoy their jobs. I absolutely cannot fault the service, it is 5*.
However would I pay to go back? Probably not.
1. Menu - beautiful menu with healthy fibre filled ‘fancy food’ options although not particularly inclusive for people who like me have Crohns’ and have to avoid lots of fibre. I could only request chicken and rice and couldn’t have the 3 course meal with no offer of a partial discount/refund for this.I didn’t pursue as I was so appreciative of the accommodating staff however this would have been a nice inclusive gesture if Champneys could consider inclusivity.
2. Everything appeared to be hidden extras. £70 to use the spa facilities which I feel were very average - doesn’t include lunch and you can’t keep the robe. Not enough lounge beds around the jacuzzi/pool, tiles missing on the plunge pool, significant rust seen on rails by the pool, in the women’s day spa changing rooms the changing cubicles were tired with one I was in - no lock working, the shower ceiling corner was held up by duck tape. It’s tired and needs updating and TLC.
3. Room - standard room very roomy but similar decor to Holiday Inn, not luxury. Needs up updating.

Because I was recuperating I didn't get to use any of the spa facilities so my review is maybe of limited use. My experiences were to do with the room - I stayed a week - food and service mostly. I wasn't able to travel so I had to take all of my meals at the hotel. I found the cooking confusing. Whilst trying to maintain a healthy edge the amount of food put into every dish was very unhealthy. I also found the texture of a lot of the dishes, odd. For example, a curry is served with long pieces of raw veg, so whilst raw veg is healthy, it's a difficult combo to eat. The raw veg was used a lot. But when I mentioned the salt issue, they were very understanding and went out of their way to make me meals that were off piste so to say. I ate in the cafe every lunchtime and I found the food to be mostly unenjoyable. The sales were too salty or bland and I was served aa sandwich with black avocado and although it was advertised was being served in corn bread, it wasn't. I complained and wasn't charged. The breakfast was basic, any extras (flat white coffee) was can extra £4.75. I asked if I could have it with oat milk but was told that it came of of a machine and so there was only cows milk. My conclusion... petrol pump type coffee for London barista price. The hotel was extremely hot, (unnecessarily so in my opinion) hence why I've not given it a high eco rating. The room and common parts were not as clean as the spa area looked. Bed extremely comfy, bathroom, tired.

The room was freezing and there was no way to control temp. Breakfast was ‘included’ but you had to pay for anything off the menu and any nice coffees. They’ve hired a load of children to serve and don’t bring out what’s needed with the meal. There is also no bar, so if you want drinks when you get back from a very lifeless night in Tring there is still no life at the hotel. The room was basic and felt like a premier inn/travel lodge. Over all I think it’s expensive and not very good value for money. Check in was at 5pm which is super late for any weekend away we’ve done. The spa was also very cold, too cold to relax on a bed - if you can find one. The beds were wet and I didn’t want to ‘relax’ there only to go back to a cold bland room. Over all quite disappointing and wont go back.

"When you visit some hotels, you may feel like a number and not a person. This was my first visit, and I had no expectations. I was pleasantly surprised; first off, the smell of the place is just amazing! The location and grounds were stunning. More importantly, I was treated like part of the family—the staff was amazing and welcoming. If you're a single person traveling, it can feel quite daunting, but you actually felt like you were part of the family and so well looked after. The spa is first class; although I was working, so I didn't have time for many treatments, apart from hair, which was so reasonably priced. The staff are trained and true professionals, so thank you."

Welcome was not particularly welcoming. No real explanation as to where things are, meant a lot of time going back and forth to ask questions. Restricted access based on when you can check in to your room to the spa facilities is very strict and somewhat tainted the feeling of being somewhere where you can relax. We arrived 3 hours before check in, we were going to pay for lunch and we had booked a treatment but they still wanted to charge us a day rate for the hour before check in. Restaurant staff were delightful. Food was very good. Room was very comfortable but bathroom was quite tired. Overall a good experience but I think a little more attention to customer experience would improve my rating.

Absolute worst spa hotel I have ever had the displeasure of staying at. Understaffed, rude manager, poor quality room and breakfast, unavailable sauna. Terrible, will never make the mistake of booking to stay here again.

We arrived late on the first night and found that the shower head was broken, we reported it the next day, it was not repaired by the 2nd day.
The web site lists a Bar, but there isnt one.
Apart from these 2 items it was a lovely place to stay.

I travel regularly and this is one of the worst hotels I’ve ever stayed at. No air conditioning, rude staff, dirty, rooms and facilities falling apart. Absolutely not a 4 star hotel.

Lovely old charactor building set in a beautiful quiet location, great food and polite, friendly staff.

It's a health spa. The food is healthy, and the only alcohol is wine. Use of the pool and facilities cost extra and close at 6pm.
