Very nice area. Friendly service, clean rooms and good beds. unfortunately our rooms smelled sour and earthy.

We recently stayed at Mahekal Beach Resort in Playa del Carmen, and it was an absolute dream. We booked the Oceanfront Casita, #36, which came with a private balcony and a plunge pool, offering stunning views of the ocean. The room was spacious, well-maintained, and beautifully decorated with authentic Mexican charm.
What truly made our stay exceptional was the outstanding service. From check-in to check-out, the staff went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. They were attentive, friendly, and always willing to offer helpful tips for exploring the area.
The location was perfect—just the right distance away from the bustle of Fifth Avenue. It was close enough to walk to the shops and restaurants when we wanted to, but far enough for a peaceful and relaxing experience by the beach.
If you’re looking for a serene, beautiful getaway with top-notch service and stunning oceanfront accommodations, Mahekal Beach Resort is the place to be. We can’t wait to return!

Since we arrived we were treated like royalty. Super friendly and welcoming. We will be returning. Such an awesome experience.

Alan was super helpful.

I have stayed in Palace, Occidental, Iberostar and Mia Reef Isla Mujeres resorts which were all inclusive hotels and they had more to offer than Mahekal for the price and not being all inclusive sorry but its not worth it. I received my two rooms 40 minutes late with no explanation there were mouse droppings on my bed and the hotel is small and not much too offer. I don't recommend this place to anyone

During my stay at the hotel I felt so comfortable: Cori from concierge was so kind and helpful ! She is a professional! The Bungalow option with a private pool was great. The food was good. The beach was clean with no weeds. The stuff was friendly and helpful.

The beach front bungalows are one of a kind, very difficult to find anywhere - these were beautiful and rustic, just what I was looking for.

Perfect location and very relaxing resort. Everyone was very attentive and pleasant. Would definitely recommend this resort and stay here again!

Worst place I've ever been.

I stayed a little over a week. Everything and everyone was very friendly and helpful. Rooms were clean. The only thing I didn’t like was the bugs, ants, and little worms crawling on the bed while sleeping.

I love the privacy and easy access to the beach

This hotel is a 3 star at best. The best part about this resort is the location. It is directly on the beach and in walking distance to tons of great restaurants and shops. The bathrooms are small with barely room for toiletries (single sink), the sinks are corroded and aged and the shower is made more for outdoors. The mosquitoes are everywhere and there’s an inch gap letting them in at the bottom of the room doors which we had to cover with towels. We weren’t made aware of the animals (coatis) on property and only found out on social media. These are raccoon-like creatures which were crawling on the roof of our palapa while we were relaxing on the hammocks. A very unpleasant surprise! One of the worse parts of our stay was the smell. I read in reviews and thought it was isolated. No! It smells like sewage throughout the resort, even the beach. Also, the cleaning supplies used by the staff are ineffective and actually smelled worse as if they were using the dirty sewage water. I would strongly suggest to find another resort in the area.

I reserved a massage for two, two days in advance. With the coupon they offer for one person and was going to pay for the second person. In the end they didn’t do it Saying that they never reserved it and they made a mistake. That was awful.

The property is located right on the beach & the Mayan esthetic is lovely. The vibes of the property are calm & quiet. Rooms are simple, clean, & have a nice esthetic flow. The all inclusive half board doesn’t include drinks but the food that I had was decent. The breakfast is nicely laid out with some good options of fruit, omelets station, quesadillas, juice coffee etc. if you order anything extra such as a latte or a cocktail it does cost extra and they do expect tips. My check-in was fine, however I was early so when I came back to get my room, they gave it to someone else resulting in a downgrade for me. Luckily Expedia has excellent customer service and they made things right by giving me a refund & credit. My room was comfortable except the shower head was old and filled with lime resulting in water spray everywhere. My door had a huge gap opening even when closed and at one point a large cockroach was in the room. The maid service is very efficient and they make sure that everything is tidy and refilled. The one thing that blew my mind was the charge of 60 pesos for a coffee pod and 65 pesos for a cheap bottle of water. To me that is really in poor taste and unacceptable for a so-called 5 star. The beach is beautiful but unfortunately if you come on the weekend, you can expect it to be completely packed and loud until 1 am with loud music etc the hotel has its own roped off area but it’s still really overcrowded on the beach. Overall it was an average experience.

It was pretty to look at and pools were nice. Staff was very friendly and the food was good. On the down side: The 1st night we were in a bungalow (best on property) and right by beach. Did not sleep all night due to people on the beach playing guitars, yelling all night long and people playing bongos at 5am. Was so bad we asked for a down grade and moved our place to somewhere quieter on the resort. Also we were locked out of our bungalow 2x the first time for 45 min and second an hour. Lock kept breaking and maintenance had to fix. Another reason we asked to move. There are no tv’s or microwave in rooms. The fridge is full of their drinks they want you to buy and no room for your own drinks to keep cool. The coffee in the rooms you have to pay for also. Ate at the best restaurant on the property and when seated we had to ask to move tables due to so many ants all over the table. The all inclusive only included a breakfast and a dinner each day at their selected restaurant only. No drinks included. Rip off. There are also a lot of mosquitoes! There is no shuttle from airport to resort or vice versa and it cost us $480 to get from and back to airport. It was nice to look at but would not recommend. Stay somewhere just as nice with as good or better amenities.

check in and out is horrible. The property is beautiful but they need to expedite the check in and out. You have to stand in a hot outdoor covered area, but, unbelievable they have one staff member only.
I have gotten day passes there a few times before, and it's the same thing, this time, I rented a room, but, it was not a pleasant experience.

This resort has amazing views of the beach ! The staff are very friendly and respectful. But the facility needs a lot of updates and cleaning and more walkways to get to places and more places where to eat other than that it’s an Amazing place we had a wonderful time !!!

The resort was absolutely amazing and peaceful for my 6year old daughter and I. First time having a vacation in over 12 years and I couldn’t have picked a better place. My daughter and I had such a beautiful time here. The staff I can’t say enough good things about them. They even remembered our names. I never once had to ask for anything, just genuine, accommodating and sweet. We will definitely be coming back! Missing it already!! <3

The property was really well maintained. Room was big and clean, restaurants were excellent, you have a lot of choices for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Pools were nice and the access to the beach was convenient. The only thing that needs to improve is the wi-fi in the rooms, a little bit spotty sometimes. Overall was an excellent stay and I definitely will love to come back and stay.

The place was perfect. Friendly and welcoming service.

We had to change rooms twice - - once because of flooding and the second time because we were moved to a terrible room with an unlocked/unsealed door, mold, and no view. We finally moved into a “voluntary downgrade,” a room half the size what we paid for with bonus bedbugs. Management offered no apology or compensation, in spite of asking three times.
The food was nice, and the service staff in the restaurants were outstanding! The pools were wonderful, and being beachfront was fun! Loved the town for shopping and other restaurants.

The Mahekal was excellent, we really enjoyed our stay. Disappointed in Expedia though. After purchasing the package, the Mahekal reached out to inform me a two different fees that would be charged upon arrival. It was $400 extra for all inclusive (which was well worth it) but the hotel needed an additional $15 a day per person payable onsite that Expedia did not mention. Expedia didn’t help at all.

Mahekal Beach Resort was everything we expected and more. Natural beauty and very beautiful palapas to stay in. This place truly is mesmerizing. We stayed in ocean view palapa and will definitely be back.

This was my first time EVER staying at a resort and I loved everything about Mahekal. The restaurants overlooking the beachfront were breathtaking. The food at Fuego restaurant was amazing and the buffet at Las Olas was very good. The servers and staff were very kind and professional. I also really loved the location of the resort. Mahekal is very relaxing and peaceful with a few different pools but if you're looking for things to do outside of the resort, 5th avenue is just within walking distance, there you will find local shops, restaurants and if you're interested night life I definitely recommend going to COCO BONGO. You really get the best of both worlds staying at Mahekal!

We booked this property for 5 days the staff was friendly and it’s walkable to everything else the only problem was that this whole time what we thought where mosquito bites turn out to be bed bug bites . Horrible my family and I were full of bed bugs bites .

This property really made you feel like you were in nature. It was smaller than most resorts, which made the experience much more relaxing overall.

I recently stayed at Mahekal Resort Beach and spa , and unfortunately, my experience was far from satisfactory. Upon arrival, I was greeted by a bathroom full of gnats, which was a very unpleasant start to my stay. Additionally, the rooms had a persistent bad smell that made it difficult to feel comfortable.
The bathroom itself was also problematic. It didn’t have much flushing power, and the water that came out of the shower had very low pressure, making it difficult to bathe properly.
Throughout my stay, I constantly had to request basic amenities such as water, toiletries, and toilet paper. These should have been replenished as soon as they were depleted, but this was not the case. When I tried calling to notify the front desk they never answered the phone.
The staff was not particularly friendly or accommodating, which further detracted from the experience. When I dined at the resort, I found the food to be mediocre at best, yet extremely overpriced.
To make matters worse, on our last night, we were kicked out of the pool closest to the beach due to a private event. This was extremely unfair to all paying guests who were looking forward to enjoying the amenities.
Overall, my stay at Mahekal Resort was quite disappointing. I would not recommend this resort to others and hope that management takes these concerns seriously to improve future guest experiences.

The magnificent oceanfront view is priceless. The staff is extremely attentive and friendly throughout our stay. If you're staying in one of the bungalows near one of the resort's pools it can be a little noisy as early-riser vacationers can be a little loud, but other than that it was a total bliss relaxation vacation.

This is my second time staying here and I was thrilled the first time. The second time, I got a room with plunge pool. The private plunge pool had debris in it, so much that I didn’t use it the entire stay. It looked dirty and very worn. There were ants all over the room, not sure you. An avoid it considering the natural resources used do build these bungalows but I found ants in the bed. The walls had spots of mold, the door didn’t lock very well which worried me. The room safe didn’t work, lights in the room didn’t work, the smoke detector needed new batteries, the sofa in the room was filthy and stained, we didn’t sit on it at all. The room was beachfront which I DO NOT recommend because it’s a public beach and they party all day and night. I couldn’t sleep the entire trip because of the noise factor….this premium bungalow turned out to not be worth it. Very different experience than when I came last month. The staff is great, the food is okay and the drinks have hardly any alcohol in them. I could drink 10 drinks and still be sober. Beautiful grounds and views but I probably wouldn’t stay here again because the rooms attract bugs

We liked everything about his resort until check out when we were surprised to be charged for water from the mini-fridge. Bottled water was in abundance everywhere and for free so we thought the water in the fridge was free too. Nope. As I said everything else was great. Food, staff, safety, and the location could not have been more perfect.

We had a great stay. OUr a/c worked very well!
All the hotel staff were kind and polite.
Great cocktails.
It would be nice if the 6 am drum healing circle could be directed a little down the beach rather than directly infront of the hotel.

Run down. Management indifferent to complaints of bats and pigeons nests

Very good place to stay. Only drawback is the inside of room was not clean. Otherwise everything was good overall
