I had some much expectations for this hotel, I visited it 8 years ago and it was great. But it change so much. Food was not great, some fruit from the buffet were bad and not entertainment at all around the pool or the hotel in general, drinks were not good, staff were not that friendly as I am use to in others hotels in Mexico. It is big and beautiful but it needs a lot of work to make Sandos Playacar of what it was before. Elena from the Italian restaurant was amazing and Naileth from the Brazilian Restaurant were the best. The rest of staff were ok. The Beach was gorgeous and made my stay very much fun.

Family friendly resort, lots of things to do, good varieties of food. Overall a very nice resort for the family. One advise to visitors, bring your own drinking glass or tumbler unless you don't mind using their rewash or rerinse plastic glass😮

CONS:
1) Hard to book dining options ( can only use the web app, or do walk in at very early hours). There are no alternatives for booking, and the staff in person made it hard to book dining.
2) Poor check in service. No offer of a welcome beverage despite the long check in process. None of the amenities were described without me asking many questions. I had to remind the staff to give me a towel card. The room bracelet is a great idea, but it is a little gross knowing that you wear it 24/7 and cannot remove it to wash or rinse it.The web app has the only version of a map of the large property. It is hard to read and challenging to zoom in on the map.Hopefully the property can introduce a GPS version of the map in their app to help figure out directions better.
3) Poor shuttle service. Very vague signs as to the stop locations, and such crowded conditions that I realized early on, its best to walk around the property to get anywhere in a timely fashion
4) Poor lack of signage. Signs that were present were difficult to read or in odd spots that you could not find them.
5) Lack of enforcement of areas: Staff did not enforce "adult only zones"
6) Frequent Upselling
PRO:
1) Good BellBoy service. They take your belongings and immediately give a receipt, whether it is when you first come to the lobby, or request a pickup prior to your check out.
2) Good food. Despite challenging to obtain restaurant reservations, the food was pretty good overall.
3) Wide water options

We stayed in the 6000 block which is far from the main buffet and beach. It wouldn’t be an issue if they had an adequate shuttle bus system. When we stayed mid June they had one or two shuttle busses running thru the day but there were too many visitors and it was not enough. The lines were long and you had people walking up and rushing on the bus — if you’re not fast or have kids / strollers get ready to wait or walk every single time. My family members had different issues with their rooms. One other room in block 6000 flooded after a night of rain. A room in the adult section had no ac the entire stay and all they could do was offer a fan. Yes you read that right, a FAN. Another family in 6000 block walked into their room after check in and there was a couple showering.
We stayed 6 nights and were able to get reservations to the restaurants only after our 4th night. I will not return to this place and don’t recommend.

I just spent 5 days at the Sandos Playacar. It was a great property for a family vacation. The beach was absolutely beautiful. I wish they had more entertainment around the pool. It is not a resort for young adult who want to party. The DJ at the club could not entertain the crowd. This resort is perfect for the kids from 0-15 . The resort needs more animation around the pool, in the Teen Club and in the night club. Regardless of the lack of entertainment- I will still recommend

Booked 4 rooms for 4 days through Expedia. 7 adults (3 of them elders). Check in service was TERRIBLE with male agent . I had requested early check in and to have rooms close together since we had the elders. He said pick one or the other that he couldn’t help with both unless I paid an additional amount to upgrade rooms to adult only section. My priority was the rooms close together and the amount they requested was price gauging. Rooms were given to us around 5pm. But my dad’s room wasn’t ready until almost 7pm. And when the agent at the counter assisted me with that, she gave me the worse attitude and told me I had to wait an additional 30 minutes after I asked for a manager since she claimed she couldn’t see any reservation or change request for us. Tram service is TERRIBLE only 1 was working and it was at least a 30 minute wait if we were lucky. Property is big and nothing b is walking distance. On day 2 found out that I had access to Expedia concierge that could have assisted me with all my stay and she was amazing! Grouped our rooms in the adult section and helped with transportation. She saved our vacation. Had it not been for her, we would have left a day early due to the terrible service we were given. THANK YOU for saving our vacation and making the last day of our vacation memorable. Also we never received our complimentary fruit and wine room gift and fridge in room never worked.

Food was terrible.
They allow children in adults only areas.
Random staff walking in our room while sleep.
Order room service and it never comes or comes incorrect.
We received one towel key for 2 rooms and 4 people.
Other guest were welcomed with drinks and champagne upon arrival but weren’t offered anything.
We made an in person reservation at restaurant with the manager then the next day they told us we didn’t have a reservation.
I don’t recommend this resort.

It was very pretty and it felt at times magical to be there.
The main issues were that one had to reserve tables before getting there to dine at most restaurants in the facility. Although, they did have one that was a la carte all the time.
The drinks were heavily watered down and was very disappointing. Came to find out that only if you had a specific colored bracelet (all inclusive), you received that drink. Ours unfortunately, was the lesser of the 3. This made the experience feel as though we were “third class” citizens at times. This differentiation also followed us at the beach, at specific restaurants, amenities and so forth. Such a shame that as a paying customer, nonetheless, we were treaded differently. If I was aware of the different service that we were going to get I might have paid extra to get the full treatment. Yet, who wants to be a part of a classist vacation?! No thank you.
But, everything else was good, entertainment, shopping, the convenience of shuttles back and forth, the safety was a plus and even met some staff who treated us like “black bracelet members “even though we were only “blue.” Do not believe we’ll return. So sad, had we felt truly welcomed there would have been no hesitation.

I’ve been to Sandos before in 2011, 2012, 2016 and this time I have to say this was disappointing. It was a waste of money. From walking in to the front desk requesting for a specific room which I was told I can get but once I get there it was an absolute NO.
The room we did get was all the way far in. It was a great suite but here’s a thing, we wanted to use the Jacuzzi, we tried and the entire room was filled with water. They came fixed it and guess what when we tried using it at night, the water again started leaking they came fixed it and finally we were able to use the next day, however not once anyone called and asked how did it go, do you need the room to be changed or what can we do to make this better. First two days were awful, since we waited for the guy to come and fix and then come back to fix again.
Not even that if ur not a member get ready to be treated with disregard. The choices of alcohol was bare minimum and the non member side was packed at all times, not enough chairs, where my friend and I had so to sit on the sand and use our towels for cushioning. There is no one coming to you for beverages, so now u have to pass the member bar side to get alcohol or water from the other bar. So inconvenient. The restaurants are there for mostly members and if ur lucky u might get a reservation at a restaurant but don’t waste ur time just stick with the buffet.
If you’re not a member, don’t waste ur time and money going here. Sandos you were disappointing!
