Great facilities and professional staff stay was let down by very bad mattresses, ill fitting bedding and also a blocked loo on arrival.
Pool was great with wave machine, flume and spa.
Parking was easy and free too.

It was a really nice stay but I felt that things had gone downhill a little bit from the last time. The food was like warm in the restaurant (particularly at breakfast) and the hotel is starting to need a bit of an upgrade with regards to decor. The staff were very friendly particularly the reception staff and where the hotel is is very lovely. I felt we were shoved in a room though that had absolutely no view of anything other than a wall which was very disappointing considering how expensive it was.

I booked a suite for 1 night for our wedding anniversary. Rather over priced for what we got. Just shy of £200 not worth it. The room was very used, the tie back hooks were ripped out the wall, the shower
head leaked so the pressure wasn't good, there was make up stains around the mirror, the fire alarm was hanging from the ceiling. Our friend paid for surprise balloons and a voucher for the bar. These did not materialise. We ate at the hotel restaurant. It was clean but also very used and worn out. Big chips out of the table. Cracked glass. The food it's self was average. Safe to say we won't stay there again. The staff were all nice and polite. But definitely not a 4 star hotel.

Noisy dog in the room next to us which was annoying. Pool closed early one night with no notice. Apart from that good food and good facilities
1.0
So disappointing considering the amount we paid for the night. Was not worth it at all. Our room - we could hear every conversation next door were having like we were in the same room. The shower and bathroom was awful. The water was either scalding or cold and trickling out of the shower.
Breakfast was awful. The side plate and milk jug were dirty with food stuck on it and tea stains. Ordered tea for two and got a pot for one and when asked for more took ages to come. No rush about the staff at all. Cleanliness is not great in the hotel. I would not recommend to stay and will not be staying there again.
Then we went to use the swimming pool. The fire alarm went off no one moved asked a life guard was not the fire alarm and where do we go. He said it’s for another building if you want to leave you can but you can just go into the pool if you want? Some families were leaving in their swim suits and others stayed? Ridiculous. So disappointed considering how fancy the Macdonald resort think they are. Very out dated. Needs a good clean. Unfortunately never took photos at breakfast as never had phone but staff were aware of the dirty dishes.

Great hotel with lovely attention to detail. Had a meal there one night which was lovely and breakfast every morning was great. The hotel is in a great location close to the centre of Aviemore.

Cold breakfast every morning, served on cold plates. also kept running out or eggs’ potato scones etc. long wait to be seated, 15 mins., standing at the top of the stairs ( with 4 collapsed discs in my spine.) finally get your tea, no milk. Next day no toast, more cold food. Service was so slow. Staff are run off their feet trying to cope. I said to an older woman serving at the food counter, maybe need more staff. She implied it was our fault for all turning up at the same time. I politely asked what is the best time to come for breakfast..to avoid this..she said, don’t turn up at the same time. Hotel is not 4 star. We’ve stayed in many in Dubai etc. dated, overpriced, understaffed. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anyone. We spent an hour in the bar, a large crowd of people finished their drink and left. The cluttered 7 tables weren’t cleared at any time during our hour. Even though the bar staff had gone from 1 to 3. And no one waiting to be served. I couldn’t get my small shop mobility scooter to my room, as we were on a split level landing..lift was up, or down 9 stairs! Room was pleasant if a bit old..and it was clean. Warm enough. Sorry to be so disappointed. It was a treat fit my hubby 82nd birthday. Hotel is central to shoot etc.

Stayed at Highland Hotel. Breakfast good, full range of food and on a par with most hotels. Rooms bit dated but clean and tidy. Pool joined on to this hotel and is excellent. Caters for all ages.We were hesitant after reading reviews on this hotel but don’t let them put you off. Not a 5* but good central base for exploring the area.

Breakfast was Luke warm with only one set of tongs for 4 food items. Potato Scones were like tortilla chips they were so overcooked. Spout on tea pot was broken, mismatched cups on table, food on salt and pepper pots. Lack of care and attention to detail.

Soft play swimming great & room nice

Bit disappointed for what we paid for the hotel. It was lovely downstairs but although the room appeared clean the less obvious areas required a good dusting. There was also no fridge which we have had in all the hotel rooms we have stayed in in recent years. The buffet breakfast was an also disappointing. On the first day the hot food was not hot and was slightly undercooked. Second day was acceptable but the third day it was overcooked, particularly the bacon. However all staff we had dealings with were very pleasant and helpful. The swimming pool and leisure centre was also excellent.

Loved the placement near the town and station

Room was good but bathroom lacked counter space. Breakfast service was spotty.
2.5
Amazing resort. 3 hotels, big pool, toboggan, waves. Cinema, ice skating ring, 3 restaurants. My son loved this resort.

We had a fantastic stay. Hotel was amazing and staff were extremely friendly.

We were at the MacDonald hotel for 2 nights with our family of 8 in three rooms. Breakfast was excellent, as was one dinner which we enjoyed in the Aspects restaurant. ''all in a great experience!

Location. The leisure facilities was great for 8 yr old. Plus great for our dogs

Great experience. Fabulous room and service. Loved the pool area. Would stay again.

Macdonald hotels used to be much more pleasant to stay in, but the touch of class just isn't there anymore. Our bathroom was dirty, the bedding had tears in it, there were no sockets next to the bed, the shower water pressure spluttered and scalded me every so often, the supposed sofa bed for my daughter was actually a camp bed... The resort itself was ok, although with just one slide the pool was lackluster. The team did make an effort to put in events for the children but we didn't bother using them as we really just wanted to explore the beautiful surrounding area. There was lots of choice at breakfast time but none of it was especially tasty.
4.0
Tired overall but excellent facilities for children and reasonable value. Staff are mediocre but I would gladly return.

The hotel is in desperate need of an upgrade. The beds are comfortable & clean but the furnishings carpets etc are in a bad state of repair. The
Bedside lamp continually flickered on & off & made a spark! We were given wrong information twice about the time that the swimming pool opened which in turn meant we missed the time to go in for the flumes & wave machine to be on at! So 2 very unhappy grandchildren indeed! We had been informed that breakfast was served until 10.30 but when we got there at 9.55 & they were finishing the service. All they could offer was making us 2 plates of anything left lying in the hot plate (so we received 2 plates of cold bard bacon sausages eggs (which you could bounce off the floor cold everything!)! We did get some fresh tea though !!! We then asked when we take our grandchildren to the soft play area could we buy a coffee there & maybe some kind of food/croissants/ sandwiches etc & the receptionist Sofia said oh yes you will get coffee etc there - low & behold nothing there & the assistant on the soft play desk said oh they stopped serving there weeks ago & she had apparently been told they were going to put in vending machines! (Ashame the receptionist of the hotel didn’t know this?)! Unhappy indeed we were with our (planned) fun time of swimming & having fun at the pool then going to soft play which the 2 kids enjoyed 👍 So, lastly the advertised kids play in the craft room was just a ‘help yourself’ not at all organised so we are unhappy.

Absolutely disgusting. Definitely not 4 star more like 2 star.

This hotel needs renovation and a more pleasant staff. They were treating us rudely all over our stay, since check-in, when they refused to provide 2 keys for the room, even we were 4 people in the room! Sounded like all employees were in a hurry to finish their jobs instead of creating a good experience for customers. Rooms need serious renovation, the carpet is covered by dust when you look under tables and behind the beds.

The room and the hotel itself was very dated, but the breakfast each morning was delicious. A real highlight for our 4yr old son was the soft play and swimming pool.
2.5
Wonderful stay with my 4 year old son.
A great campus with swimming pool (wave machine and flume a huge hit!), play park and the kids disco in the evenings were fantastic.
Centrally located to the town with plenty of parking for a great base for an aviemore adventure holiday

Staff were all incredible - friendly and helpful! Hotel itself is very dated though and made room seem like it needed a good clean!! and therefore not good value for money in my opinion! Breakfast wasn’t great either with all stations again seeming untidy.
3.0
Bar staff awkward and poor.
4.0
Perfect location, and plenty activities to do.
1.0
Poor from start to finish. Handed schedule of activities which was incorrect both times we tried to access the pool. Sons bed was for a toddler and despite requests wasn't changed. Breakfast poor and staff rude.
Was promised a call from the manager, but I'm still waiting.
Hotel was full of tourists, who I felt most sorry for if their was their first impression of Scottish hospitality.

The food was good , bar prices for a 4 star but actual hotel is not 4 star.
Very dated rooms. Quite grubby tbh
Hotel needs investment to bring it up to date.
Swimming changing rooms quite grubby. Broken lockers etc
Staff where nice as was the food. Again 4 star prices.

Lovely walks hotel was well equipped with things to do
5.0
Amazing stay, the hotel was spotless, the staff very helpful and friendly, great service and do much to entertain the family. Great for all ages.
3.0
Staff were outstanding from the receptionist to the restaurant staff.
Property needs a bit of modernisation. No USB points in our room. TV does not provide smart apps or casting. Swimming pool was good but it takes last entrance at 19:15. As one of the main features I would have thought it would be open later. Also in the morning opens at 8. Not much use for early swimmers and at that time the flume was not in operation.
Summary, staff are amazing, management needs to consider facilities

As a disabled first the access to rooms etc was very tight! Could not fit scooter in lift for dining / breakfast so had to have breakfast in the bar! Husband had to run up and down stairs getting my breakfast first and then his own. By time he returned I had finished.

We stayed in room number 2332 for 5 nights. The service was pathetic. Out of 5 nights only once our room was cleaned . The toilets were not cleaned as part of the room service . After exploring our drives at the highlands we always came back to a dirty room . I would never advise anybody to stay in this property. There are limited dining options in and around the property.
1.5
Check in was running late due to a laundry issue. We were offered a free drink which was appreciated. We were then told we had been given an upgrade which again was very much appreciated. However, when we got to our room it wss less than we expected from the non-upgrade room. Light flickered in the bathroom, fousty smell, safe didnt work, our bed had hairs on it, cheap metal bunk beds for the kids, room right at the road in the car park so very noisy, mirror covered by tv. Overall, for the price we paid it wasnt great. My husband explained the issues to reception and they said they would sort them out and look to move us the next morning. They came to change our bedding, sprayed air freshner and we never heard from them again. On check out, i explained our stay was just okay and the man replied, "oh thats great, good to hear". We felt that management didnt have a care in the world. The room was nothing like the photos. The bathroom looked older than I am. We had booked the family room with the sofa bed as our daughters love to share a bed but got bunk beds in our "upgraded" room instead. The activity centre sounded great on paper but turns out it was a young lady at a desk who sat on her phone and explained we could play around the rooms. Pool was good fun and the cinema is huge. Breakfast in aspects was delicious. This resort has the potential to be amazing but until it is, we wont be returning unfortunately.
