We all loved the location of the lodge, with all bedrooms being on suite.
Beautiful place.
Food was average.

Breakfasts good although staff seemed a bit unmotivated. Management friendly especially maintenance man and guy in Morlich bar who pampered our dog. Lodges very large and close to town and nice walk.
Rooms are tired, handles missing, split leather, obsolete fixtures. We had to ask for 5 bulbs to be replaced when we arrived! Kitchenette is hardly worth the bother with greasy cooker hood. Lodges are very close to traffic noise.
3.8
Close to centre, good parking and spacious
Very run down, broken tiles, threadbare carpets. Outdated furniture. Overcharging for the condition of the property.

Great location and the staff was very helpful

Peaceful location. Spacious rooms all en-suite. Good breakfast at the hotel included
Could have supplied outdoor chairs

Visited Aviemore along with 6 friends and we stayed in two of the lodges. These being fairly spacious meant we all had a bedroom and private bathroom and were impressed with the size of the accommodation.
All being clean tidy and well equiped meant they exceeded our expectations
Our visit was mid 2023, long after BREXIT, however the town itself seemed to be suffering from a lack of staffing in many bars, restaurants and other facilites which either closed early or offered very limited timings for their food service.

Lodge was very clean and it was wonderful to have three bedrooms and three bathrooms. Breakfast was good, italian restaurant was very good. Great location with just a short walk into town.

I was a little dubious after reading some of the earlier reviews. But we had a lovely stay and we would go back.
The staff are absolutely fantastic. We stayed in the lodges and we stayed with our dog. We ate at Giovanni's and booked breakfast. The guys made a table for us in the lounge area and nothing was too much trouble. The boys went to the swimming pool and gym which they loved. Especially loved chatting to the lady in the pool reception. I feel awful I didn't get her name but I loved hearing stories about Walter and Peggy. Thank you .
We booked the quad biking which is advertised at the hotel and was again, fantastic. These weren't on the site and you had to to drive to get there but it was worth the drive.
The lodge was great. The beds were lovely. The views are fantastic. Staff were brilliant.
I understand what people are saying about the lodges needed a bit of TLC. I think maybe COVID has caught up and there isn't the investment in the lodges you would think there should be considering the price. It's a shame because I think the company are missing a trick. There is room for huge potential.
However, everything that could be looked after on a day to day basis such as the cleanliness of the rooms and the beds were excellent. The pillows were great and the bathroom extras were lovely.
Some of the settees were a bit scratched at the back and a picture frame was a little scratched but these are minor due to wear an tear and didn't in anyway spoil our holiday in any way.
We loved our stay and we would come back.

location and size needs outdoor furniture
no seating outside lodge

Location is perfect. Pet friendly. Staff were friendly. Breakfast amazing.
For the amount of money charging for lodges, they should be in a better condition. Could do with being better maintained. Dust on ceiling, front door stiff. Cracked tiles in bathroom. TVs not working, remote controls did not have batteries. Not enough kindling provided to get stove burner up and running.

The price that we pay for woodland lodges was for sure too high!
Lodges are years behind with equipment:
Heaters - very old and not always working
TV - no internet connection. Night time kids like watch Netflix but tv was so old that don’t have that..
Sofas - old with holes…
Fridge and freezer - was so small, it’s just too small for families.
Bathrooms - showers door’s definitely need to be replaced, the same heating system, in bathroom was very cold!
Specially water heaters “ boilers “ we was waiting with kid for hot water till 11:30pm because boiler wasn’t working!
And main thing: we never have OVEN, hard to do something to eat because kitchen equipment was just a joke!
Place is beautiful, people friendly, nice place! But of the amount that we pay for lodge and the standard of the woodland lodges it’s just not worth to coming back there again.

We were apprehensive looking at some of the reviews, but the stay was absolutely amazing! The lodge has great views and has access to trails in the Craigellachie nature reserve.
The lodge was well heated with three rooms and three bathrooms, very spacious and well equipped. Beds were large and comfortable. There are amenities provided in the bathroom. There is a kitchen as well with utensils, hob, microwave, fridge and dishwasher. It was quite useful to stay in and have food and drinks inside. The wifi was also excellent.
We also enjoyed the swimming pool which has a wave and a water slide. The breakfast was also nice with lots of options.
The check-in and check-out along with breakfast is a 5-10 min walk from the lodge. It's not a lot, but can be a bit confusing if you are checking in the first time with luggage and are on foot/travelling by train or bus. The design of signages is for cars given it's a resort.
The swimming pool needs some maintenance and upgrade. We did have some unpleasant experience where one of the lockers in the pool area had soiled diapers left by someone. We did report it to the desk. The staff seemed to care only about assigning someone else the cleaning task and took no responsibility to us as customers. Overall the staff was warm, but some instances like this made us feel as if they didn't want to work there.

The overall resort was excellent and the breakfasts were great.
We stayed in a lodge and it felt very tired. The preparation for our arrival was poor. On check in we were told our lodge was not ready. This was 2 hours after official check in time. We were told that a manager was checking our lodge to make sure it was ready. When we got in, the fridge was not turned on, the heating had only just been turned on in one room, there was no wood in the basket for the fire and an empty matchbox. In the kitchen the doors were coming off cupboards, dishwasher tablets had been left in a huge plastic bag bundled underneath the sink and there was a box left open on display which should have contained coffee pods but it was empty. In addition we could not get any of the smart tvs in living room or bedrooms to work. We spoke to receptionist briefly on check out and he assured me that someone would contact me to discuss but I haven't heard anything as yet.

Loved absolutely everything about the lodge.Have stayed before and will definitely be back.
There wasn't anything to complain about.

Great location and very Christmassy! The chalets are well equipped and comfortable. Lots for the kids to do and the staff were so friendly and helpful.
Maybe in need of a little renovation, floorboards loose in the living room/kitchen area and not as luxurious for the price as they were when I last stayed.

beautiful location, lodges big and comfi (4 adults and 2 kids) great that every room has their own bathroom! the complex is amazing, lovely pool, playground and great shop on site. lots of restaurants to choose from. Xmas family lunch was fantastic, we all loved our stay!
lodges could do with a little bit of TLC interior wise (a few cushions in the sofa would be nice)

Aviemore/location
Poor service, lodge not ready, completely run down with no improvements for years.
Definitely not 4 star!!
3.8
Lovely location, private, toiletries and tea/coffee provided.
A washing machine would be useful. Shower in main bathroom did not drain properly. Also, a stair gate might be useful if children are staying as the stairs are quite steep.

All excellent 👍. Enjoyed the peace and quiet. Breakfast was lovely. Will be back one day.

The location was ideal. The lodges were in a lovely woodland setting and ours were a short walk away from the hotel, where we went for breakfast. The buffet breakfast was delicious, with lots of selection to suit all nine of our party. The staff were welcoming and friendly and couldn’t do enough to help us...well done.
Can’t think of a single thing!

The lodges looked like the best option with regards to the whole resort, which is really run down and quite depressing to be honest. The only good thing is that they were clean and a bit more secluded from the main road.
The signage throughout the resort is terrible / non-existent. We drove around the resort three times in an attempt to find the reception for the lodge bookings. All buildings were closed and there was no clear indication about where to check in. Eventually found the main hotel in which the reception desk could easily be mistaken for a pillar.
Generally the entire resort is really run-down / dated. The chairs in the breakfast restaurant had gaping holes with filling spilling out and stains on the chairs and carpets. Breakfast was average. There were also breakfast plates left in random places such as the stairwell? The lodge itself was ok but in real need of TLC - lots of stains, cracked paint and cracked tiles, chairs worn away etc. and the front door had to be properly slammed to get shut to lock it.
There is no lift in the main hotel building which, with my disabled mother-in-law, is really quite poor. The receptionist advised we walk all the way out of the building and across the car park to find the lift, which would eventually take us back to the restaurant in the building we were stood in - all while being completely unsympathetic to the situation. Again there was no signage throughout the building so we got completely lost in a maze of dark, depressing corridors, only to end up taking the stairs again because the lift was nowhere to be found.
All in all I find this to be a common theme with Macdonald Hotels, each time I think it’s a one-off but actually they’re just awful.
