I stayed in a 6 bunk hostel room. Accommodation was average but the main bar and eating area were good , as was the breakfast. Neat location really, with good access by tram and trendy restaurants and cinema over the road. As with most things in Dublin, this seemed rather expensive to me - about double compared to Madrid and Barcelona. Common areas didn’t have much seating and it wasn’t somewhere to snooze.

There was definitely nothing I did not like, & it would be easier to tell you something not unique about this property than to tell you what is. Honestly, we left Dublin feeling much less than enthused due to problems, such as being left by the bus we reserved and paid in full to take us on a tour. In fact, the company provided an address that more than ten local city employees could not find, then took off without us not even checking their voicemail for messages we left or texting to check on us or try to ascertain a reason for our absence. And worst of sll, they refuse to provide us a full refund. Thus, as it turns out, Generator Dublin is the only thing in this city aboit which we rave. From the first second to the last, this place raised the gold standard bar for extraordinary excellence. The staff (each & every front desk clerk, housekeeper, cook, server, bartender, security agent, interior designer, marketer, promoter, technician, manager and all others) are friendly, helpful, bend over backward helpful, aim to please, place great value on performing their jobs exceedingly well & actually care about high quality customer service. The hostel/hotel's location is primo, near shopping, convenience stores, restaurants, many of the city's best sites & activities and modes of transportarion. The bar is top shelf in every way, the restaurant checks all boxes, our room was as clean as my house & even the laundry room is phenomenal. All this at a price that cannot be matched.

Generator offered a fun bar and restaurant, that was busy and entertaining. The property was fairly well taken care of, though the busy nature caused some mess.

The staff were very friendly except the guy with the tattoos, he was very rude. The light, plugs on my bed were not working. Shower was broken! Falling all the time. Needs to be screwed on the wall. Great area, safe, quiet, and lots of eating places around.

The room was dirty when we arrived and checked in. There were beer bottles and hair accessories from previous occupants. Mold was growing in the shower and the bathroom ceiling was peeling. On the day prior to our departure, the bathroom shower drain overflowed and flooded our room. Maintenance fixed it, and they suggested that we move rooms. However, we were told by the front desk that we were not able to change rooms. I filed a complaint with Expedia with the after repeatedly trying to get a hold of somebody at The Generator. Expedia responded back and stated that nobody was responding to their request for response either.

Bathroom in shared room was disgusting. Leaking toilet with water all over the floor, no toilet paper, mould and mildew around, unpleasant mould smell, shower drain was completely clogged so water didn’t drain when showering. Cancelled the remaining 5 nights and switched to a different location.

If you were staying as an individual I think this would be great. Felt safe, was central and you’d be getting good value for money. . As a family we had paid 160 euros for the room to then have to pay for a locker to be able to leave our bag there while we went out and about before check in - to also have to pay to have a towel to dry our hands - to have to make our own beds was really poor value for money. Ie. We could have had a hotel room for similar price and not had to pay extra for everything. In addition while I would not say there was a lot of noise disturbance we were right above the entrance so found it very loud including the music from the bar - it would make sense to move families away from that as with younger kids they are likely to need a quieter bed time earlier. I think it would be a great hostel experience for none family groups but for a family group was poor value for money (that said it was only place available in Dublin in that price range and in similar circumstances would stop here again).

The front staff was great! But that was it. The hotel was dirty overall, they didnt clean the in room shared bathroom 1 of 3 days, there was no AC, which meant the windows had to be oen to the very loud streer. There were tons of guest screaming ans singing at the hotel door and no one requested they stopped to be considerate to other guests. Also, no

This hostile was not a good stay. The bathrooms had mildew and grime on the floors of the showers. The rooms have no fans, no circulation for air. We had 8 people in a room,, without air, without a fan, and the windows barely cracked open. We asked the staff for a fan, brought one to the room and it didn't work. They brought a second fan it wasn't enough for the room so we requested a second fan. We also decided to rent a second room to give each of us space, that king room was better but same issues. Windows didn't open but a crack and no fans for room. Rooms are stale, stagnant and hot even when it's 55 degrees outside! You can't open the windows to cool the room. I requested a fan and was told they didn't have one and to ask again the next day. I did and was met with the same answer. No sorry no fan.
Personally I made an error and paid for my room but thought I booked it through Monday like the rest of my famiys room. When I returned on Sunday afternoon from touring My key didn't work. I went to the front desk where I found my entire room full of me and my daughters belongings in black trash bags. They threw our snacks in with clothes/shoes. The open bag of chips was everwhere and our toothbrushes were inside shoes and I was unnerved! My credit card was on file. They could have called or even emailed me. But no communication. The blonde lady at the front desk was rude and dismissive when I was worried about passports! Terrible service! Rude staff!

Downstairs bar and facilities were very well-kept, but actual rooms were very run down

We stayed for 5 nights. The shower completely flooded the bathroom and room the first morning and we did not get it cleaned and repaired until the final night. The room smelled of mildew and sewage. There were silverfish on the bed and a roach in the bathroom. When we were at the front desk complaining, the staff were kind but did not have immediate solutions. One staff member offered extra towels. Another gave us free laundry tokens. But the room was saturated for days. One time there was another person who tossed his key and said it was too disgusting to stay and he didn’t care that they wouldn’t refund

The condition and cleanliness of the common areas was pretty bad. Bed was comfortable enough and bedding was good. Glad i only stayed one night.

It was a decent spot. If you are looking for a place near lots to do and want a place for a nightcap or quick food, it’s good. We had a private room and the toilet wouldn’t flush so that was a bummer. We ended up using the public toilets anyways but the private shower was good. What you expect from a hostel. I’d probably check out other hostels before booking this one again though. It was annoying that at the end of the night you can’t bring any outside food to your room. Especially when as a vegan, they only had one option for me.

This is a great place to stay for a younger crowd. We were looking for somewhere cheap so it was perfect. However, it is better suited for a young traveler wanting to meet new people and have entertainment in the evening.

The place was handy for the city but alas I found the staff at reception quite unhelpful…..

This is a hostel. It is in an ideal location to the Dublin sites and a good value. It is not particularly clean, my bed had a discarded bottle and empty chip bag atill in the bed. It was also loud at night, but still easy for an overnight Dublin stay.

Great location for accessing Dublin's core and staff were super helpful and friendly.

Property was close to good bars, restaurants and popular tourist attractions.
We enjoyed a drink in the bar playing pool and shuffle board.
Property could do with re-decoration in communal areas and room.
Bedding was clean but overall the room was dirty so pretty disappointed in that respect.

The restroom in private dormitory smelled like dirty bleach water, the shower was visibly dirty and the floor was wet, the toilet wouldn’t flush sometimes, mystery stains on the sheets, and the hallway smelled like literal piss

Wonderful location for our family vacation!

The bunks would benefit from a simple curtain to afford some privacy while changing, and the policy of not allowing outside food on the property is not ideal when the onsite kitchen closes by 10pm. Everything else was excellent.

We had a fabulous stay. The Generator is a fantastic value. We'll definitely be back! For reference--my husband and I and our two 20-something "kids" stayed in a en suite family room on the 4th floor. Was it luxurious? No. But it was comfortable and the staff is super friendly and helpful. Exactly what we'd hoped for.

The generator is the perfect place to stay as a family. We had a family room for four, which came with hairdryer and towels and a shower and toilet.
Downstairs has a pool table, table tennis and shuffleboard which are perfect for keeping the kids entertained in those in between moments. Small public playground outside as well for smaller children.
24 hour reception is handy and the restaurant serves food till late. Just a few minutes walk from the Liffey and 20 minutes into Temple bar. Nice and quiet in the evening too-we all had a great night sleep.

Great room price and reception is amazing help. Vicente was so helpful!!! Rooms are very nice but tiny window doesn’t give much ventilation. Games and Bar but you’re gonna pay. Great party hostel!!

Not really a hostel - no kitchen area, and no outside food allowed. Everything feels like it's meant to extract a few euros. Luggage store is free across most properties I stayed at, but here it's charged per hour. Next to no atmosphere because there's no common area to socialise in. Bathroom and showers feel dated, vents stuck with thick dust.

If you are deaf or one of those people who can sleep through an earthquake this would no doubt be fine. Stayed for one night (Saturday) in a single room (no ensuite) and the noise overnight was insane.
Between 0100 and 0430 I experienced the following - multiple people having loud conversations in the hallways, slamming doors, squeaky doors (someone needs to run round with some WD-40), someone playing a weird dance version of Irish traditional music and humming loudly outside my door (that one was at 0415), some shouting "Watsooooon" at the top of their lungs (0145) as if they had just found their nemesis at last.
Oh and I was on the courtyard and whilst my window was closed every other window was open. What that meant practically was that I could hear everything from the dorms including loud "banter" and a raging arguement (about 0330 for that one).
I got just under 4 hours sleep in two sessions. There are literally no signs up telling people to be quiet or considerate which is a bit wild. No staff seemed to check on the hallways at any point.
Other stuff was fine, people complaining about the bathrooms being a bit messy need to remember it's a hostel (even if it does cost the same as a hotel in other cities). I used the showers and it was fine. The single room was clean and the bed was comfortable.
I get my experience may be to do with the crowd staying there being inconsiderate but the walls / doors are paper thin. I could even hear the snorer in the next room.

If you can pay for a regular hotel, please do that! Hostel are terrible because your roommates are selected by a kind of lottery...

The bed frame was not properly cleaned before my arrival as there was a fresh wad of gum jhst stuck onto a railing when I arrived. The bathrooms had not been cleaned during the three days I was at the hostel since the staff had not changed the trash bin in the stall I would go to consistently over the past days.

The Hostel cannot do anything about the individuals you stay with so we will pass on that part. I was supposed to stay 2 nights and just stayed the one and got a hotel for the 2nd night. The bathroom facilities were horrible. Unused toiled paper everywhere. Dirty bathrooms and showers as well as no toilet paper in most of the stalls. When you walk in to the facility, it appears nice and clean. As you get to where you're staying, it was far from. Very disappointing.

Kind of far from the touristy parts of Dublin. 20 minute walk on average to get to the places I wanted to go every day, but close to public transport. Also, the toilet in my 6-bedroom all female dorm didn't flush properly the whole time I was there for 4.5 days. I liked the beds themselves though and lots of storage space in the crates. Good social atmosphere, met some friends here. Bit noisy though. Glad I stayed here but would likely try somewhere else next time I come to Dublin.
