Very nice comfortable hotel convenient for Liverpool St.
1.5 / 5.0
The hotel itself was okay but the front desk was unclear in what charges were being held. And tried to charge a service charge without explaining it or it's use. Feels like false advertising and would have appreciated if they didn't do that, got it taken off in the end, but that made the stay feel unhospitable.

Spacious room, practical bathroom, great location near Liverpool Street and Mooregate tube stations. Helpful staff.

Great rooms especially for a London based property but I was disappointed that they wouldn’t store my ice packs in a freezer (I’ve travelled a lot and never been refused this request)

Great location and nice common areas / restaurant, staff were nice. Room was worn and dusty, tv was wonky and taps not working properly - generally below expected standard. Biggest issue was very noisy - rattling aircon fan and a wedding on the 1st floor with throbbing bass could hear in our room on the 4th.

Very clean modern hotel, bedroom and bathroom spacious and super nice, staff were all efficient and friendly. 3 minutes walk in either direction to 2 metro stations.
Very nice.

The hotel was lovely, very modern and full of attention to detail. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. The position is great, not too busy but near to everything!

The hotel overall has been great, however there’s a constant buzzy / vent sound in my room and it was hard to sleep some nights. Room 607 - that was the worst part.

The South Place team is awesome and will make your stay as pleasant as possible. The rooms are comfortable and offer everything we needed. The Hotel itself is located close to the Liverpool Station which is great for public transport. We stayed there for three times already and would come back anytime.

Had a great 2-night stay at South Place. The staff were courteous, attentive and efficient. The room we stayed in was spotless, my only gripe was the bathroom sink which only seemed to dispense scorching or very cold water. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and I would happily return to this establishment.

We stayed in a junior suite for one night. The bed was very comfortable and the coffee machine and waters very welcome. However the carpet was quite stained, the wall beside the bed the same and the smell from the bathroom was absolutely awful and filled the bedroom despite keeping the bathroom door closed all the time. The smell really spoiled out time in the room.

Second time we visited the South Place Hotel. Still amazing. Would definitely come back anytime. The South Place team goes above and beyond to make your stay as special and memorable as possible.

Had a great stay at South Place Hotel, had booked the junior suite but was upgraded to the presidential suite which was a nice touch, excellent stylish space.

I wouldn’t come here again and I wouldn’t recommend it. It feels like somewhere that is trying to be as cool The Standard, but is failing on all points. The lobby is ok, the bar and restaurant areas are nicely decorated, which we could see clearly because over a space that could host 300 people there was one table of 3. It had zero atmosphere, which you could say was because it was a Sunday, but that’s just not true of that area anymore - the other side of Liv St st. was buzzing. As one of the other reviews said, the rooms have tried to be too clever for their own good, the humble bedside lamps flicker because the control panels, situated everywhere and will keep you awake, must need some kind of mad charge that simpler things don’t. We tried for 20 mins to close one of our blinds using said panel, which stuttered down the window about 1/5 of the way before we gave up and accepted it was broken. The Junior Suite is a decent size, good bathtub, but current expectations on 5* are sorely lacking. The Bang & Olufsen TV is 00’s style over substance and is like having your first freeview box 15 years ago and the remote was rancid - god knows how many years of grime were in those buttons. Toiletries nothing to write home about and are hugely wasteful single use plastic. Staff average, spa facilities not all in use - and been closed for at least 2 weeks so not a priority to get up and running - cost of living affecting everyone, I guess. There are far superior hotels in this area.

Good stay …clean room and nice helpful staff

If the rate was not so expensive, the score might be different.
The bathroom door did not shut, the range of tv channels was poor, the bed/pillows were uncomfortable and there were side panels, along with the telephone, which had lights on throughout the night.
The furnishings are undeniably lovely and the location for Liverpool Street is perfect - however, I just do not think it is worth the high price.

Firstly the good: this is a great location in the City of London, within easy walking distance of Liverpool Street station. If you don't mind a bit of a stroll, it was also within walking distance of the river and other great attractions (Columbia Street Flower market just one of many). The hotel was spotlessly clean and comfortable, with a stylish bar and reception area, and the room was lovely. We were able to check in early and the reception staff were very helpful. Now the bad: unfortunately they seemed not remotely equipped to deal with a busy Sunday breakfast, which was very surprising and disappointing, given the cost of the room and the breakfast itself (£60 for 2). The staff did their very best in what was clearly a challenging situation, but for a high end hotel, to not provide enough cover during what in any other hotel would be their busiest time seems very odd. We ordered coffee and waited, and waited while other people arriving later than us had their drinks delivered. Our meal arrived after some time, still no coffee. They came by twice with the wrong hot drinks, and we finally got our (correct) drinks about 50 minutes after first ordering, our breakfast now long finished. Getting a coffee seems a very basic thing to get right. It was a very disappointing end to our stay. The restaurant staff were clearly stretched, and very apologetic when we left. However the response of reception was to knock off the service charge. It was not a very satisfying resolution.

I think cool in this hotel five star is a bit of a stretch lovely big rooms but you don’t sleep because there is construction going on next door t which the hotel do not tell you in advance - just put ear plugs in your room

Air con did not work on one of the hottest nights and purpose for booking this specific property was for the secret garden bar and that was closed with no notice

Lovely property very clean and good access to London . £250 deposit taken for a 2 night stay was quite a lot. They also have a service charge they add on at the end - although it’s discretionary this isn’t made very clear.

Hotel was very nice

After an initial booking mistake both the hotel and Hotels.com were unhelpful and we were charged for my mistake.
The staff weren't particularly friendly. The room although nicely decorated and clean was extremely stuffy. The bathroom door was very hard to close.
There was an incident where we were charged for items that we didn't have from the mini bar and it took days to sort out. I'm still waiting for an apology from the hotel!

When we enter the room, a really bad smell welcomed us. This was very unpleasant. Beside from that, the room was very hard to warm, they provided additional heater.

Lovely room, friendly staff, shame about the service charge added on without my knowledge

My favorite thing about this hotel is that it is less than a 5 minute walk from the Moorgate tube stop which made for easy access to the entire city. Also, the area is quiet and very safe. The staff are always around as well, which added to the feeling of safety!

Great location for exploring this side if London with great public transport connections. Hotel didn't have my reservation as an Expedia reservation so tried to charge full rate. It got clarified but then they charged me £11 'facility fee" because I booked through Expedia! So the customer is "penalized" for booking through Expedia.

Position, amenities and quality of the hotel were excellent.
Unfortunately had two disappointing experiences in the bar with the staff being extremely slow (did not receive our promised drinks at the table after 20 minutes, so we gave up) and unhelpful (when we arrived back at hotel around 10.35pm and enquired about availabilty of snacks and room service).
