This hotel is in need of a full refit and requires a large cash injection. It was poorly run, decor was shabby at best and food and drink selection very limited. Only saving grace is the location.

Lovely place, just a shame the bin was oveflowing beside the rear entrance, and after informing them still wasn't emptied the next morning. Enjoyed the lido even though very cold.
3.9
Had a very lovely room small double bed but there was only me so it was big enough for me
Choice of bath or shower.
Will be coming back

Booked last minute. Clean, comfy room. Polite service. Outdoor pool is wonderful!

Staff very welcoming.

Well nothing much to say . Initial check in was not too pleasant with the receptionist . But i feel they picked up after my complaints and buckled up a little . Kids had fun in the end . Receptionist around the pool area was poor so kids did not have enough internet for devices

The service was excellent at reception, but the hotel is tired. Water marks on the walls in our room. The room wasn’t serviced. The bath and tiles in bathroom were damaged. The food was excellent and the pool an experience, with a lovely lifeguard.

Liked the lido swimming pool, a unique feature as it was fed by a natural spring and required no chemicals

Beautiful Hotel and the only place to stay in Matlock Bath. Stayed in the main house. Rooms were clean and bathroom spotless and modern. TV and Wifi all worked perfectly. Tea and coffee in rooms as expected. Super comfortable bed and pillows. Clean and fluffy white towels. Staff were polite and helpful. Very quiet. Restful stay. Easy 6 min walk down to Matlock Bath. Take the shortcut straight up the path just past the church and houses. Didn't use the pool as weather temps dropped. The Spa area with whirlpool steam and sauna looked lovely. But didn't have time to use. Would definitely stay here again

Don't get me wrong, I like this hotel and surrounding area, but this room could do with a little tlc and refresh of paint. There was a coffee stain on carpet, dead spider on upper part of ceiling, scuff marks and dust around skirting and window sill.
For a family room that sleeps 4, there were 3 adults but we only had towels for 2 people and only 2 chairs on balcony. That said, I would still stay here again.

Lovely hotel as always

Our first stay and certainly not our last - very friendly happy staff that were so helpful.
Food was excellent from Sunday dinner through to breakfast
Thankyou

The main building is a lovely old building and the reception and dining/breakfast rooms are well appointed. Our room was in the annex and had a balcony, which overlooked the outside pool with a lovely view and it was nice to have that. The annex building did look tired from the outside but the rooms were decorated to modern standards. There was a bit of mold in the bathroom, and the TV had really poor service and reception (many channels including C4 and ITV were pixellated). I had requested double/king beds as a preference - both rooms were twins and narrow beds, though the rooms were large enough to accommodate wider ones. The main reason I'm commenting is that this was not a budget hotel - I think it was quite expensive and it was booked as a special treat. The staff were nice enough but the service again was not the standard I would expect from an upmarket hotel - the staff were quite vague, and seemed to be extending themselves to walk across the lobby to get a taxi card out of a drawer. We also went for breakfast at 9.30am and it's open until 10. At this point food was running out and the buffet choices were limited, including the last slice of white bread for toast! so it was 'fine' but not great for the price.

I admit I was a little dubious after reading some of the reviews however friendly staff quick service at the bar I stayed in the annexe loved the pool view spacious and comfy bed balcony a bonus large en-suite good hot shower and bath the outside if the annexe is tired looking and the corridors could do with a makeover but the room was lovely easy access to park the car by the annexe and what I saw of the main building was beautiful a dip in the massive pool was lovely would definitely stay again.

Easiest just to list...
Dirty towel in the bath room with clean towel
No extractor in the bathroom so mold on the walls and ceiling
No net curtain or blind in the windo so had to keep curtains closed and light on as window by path to pool with everyone walking back and forth
No wifi in room ( raised as issue within an hour of checking in). Nothing done despite 3 requests
Tv not working in room
Telephone not working in room
Doors to exterior all had broken locks so anyone can access the building
Food and beverage service in the bar shocking. Messed up our orders - could not tell us if food would arrive within the next hour
On checkout found that other rooms orders had been added to my room. No cross checking.
All staff seem to be broken too, no one really seems to know what is going on or who is in charge.
Disappoing treatment at spa, not the luxury pedicure as described.
Please do not book here. It is a struggling venue pretending to be an up market destination spa hotel.

Great time here, close to matlock bath

Beautiful historic building with ambience and warmth. In need of some light updating but wonderful grounds and location and friendly staff. The spa in tiny but fun and relaxing and we had excellent value for money on our stay.

Had an impromptu night away over Bank Holiday. We picked the 1st sunny weekend and Matlock was packed with tourists.
The hotel is nice, reception were very pleasant and helpful. Room was spacious and clean. TV didn't work, but we weren't in the room to watch TV.
My only small complaint is the bar is open all day, but it can be a bit tricky to find someone to serve. It's also only open until 22:00 and the restaurant stops serving food at 20:00.
It would have been nice to have a few nights here and to sample the spa and outdoor pool.

The staff were very friendly and the room was comfortable and clean.

Cant really fault the staff, but i was disapointed with both the service and what my very expensive booking got me. Shame really since the building is so nice.

We attended our sons wedding, it is a beautiful venue, very clean, delicious food and the staff are very helpful and professional
3.9
Nice hotel. Very pleasant receptionists and very helpful. Comfy bed and sound sleep apart from the fire alarm going off at 12.45am! Despite that we will return!
3.9
Nice location and impressive looking from the outside. Inside the hotel needs some TLC - paint chipped, plaster coming off in chunks, threadbare carpets etc.
The room i booked was labelled as 'superior double'. It was a box room. Didn't appear to be a double bed and it was uncomfortable spring mattress. The bedding didn't seem too clean either, with grease stains on the pillows. I wouldn't have called this room superior at all.
The food in the restaurant was nice, we were waiting a while for service in the bar, i ordered a small white wine which turned out to be a medium with strange floaters in the glass - my husband isn't as put off by things like that so we did a drink swap.
Don't think I'd be in a rush to return

Great location for out day/night trip to Matlock. Room was very nice and the large bed was great ! The bar was a little pricey and would rather of had a cooked breakfast included in the price than a condition one. If we do Matlock again we shall return.

Staff were all excellent in all respects. Have stayed here several times now and will continue to do so.

Very dated carpets stained pint pealing off the walls I’m the hallways. Reception staff weren’t very professional sitting in hoodies lying back in their chairs

Had a night away with a friend. Staff was lovely and the hotel was to a good standard. My only disappointment was having to pay £15 each for access to sauna, steam room and sauna. Nowhere in the description does it say it’s payable to access this area as a hotel guest. The standard of the Spa area was extremely poor. The hot tub was only 3/4 full and water was tepid, steam room was cold. Only 5 loungers and not big enough for all guests that was there. The sauna was nice and that was it.
Evebing meal was nice, lovely 3 course meal that was cooked very well.
3.9
Beautiful surroundings and the added benefit of an outdoor natural swimming pool. Very comfy room great heating friendly staff. Breakfast was nice but I wish they did cooked breakfast too excellent all round
3.9
A rather poor, run down hotel that was probably really nice at some point in time, rather a shame to see it like this.
The staff were friendly but the biggest disappointment was the breakfast, it’s just a continental and not a very good one at that.
I left a £400 coat and a £300 Gillet in the cupboard and called them when I got home, they confirmed they had found the coat but no sign of the gillet. They offered to post it for £10 which we sent but received nothing. Chased them a few times and have now been told that they posted it without any tracking so it must have gone missing in the post.
Hmmmm, doesn’t sound very likely to me. Nobody would post an item like that without tracking and also its weird that they only owned up to finding one of the items.
Will not be staying again but if you do, please keep an eye out for some well-dressed members of staff.
An expensive evenings stay!

Very nice comfortable stay

Great value for what we paid. Would go back again

Nice friendly hotel in a quiet but convenient location. And a tip top continental breakfast, and happy staff. Thanks

The staff was very welcoming , helpful and polite , the overall hotel had a lovely warm feeling . Would recommend was a short walk to the amenities the children had a great time at the arcades , the bus into Matlock town centre stopped at the bottom of the drive on the main road so was perfect . Thankyou will hopefully be staying again in the summer .

Every member of staff were very friendly and helpful. Evening meals were very nice and was presented well.
I do have to however mention the central heating !! Our room ( we stayed in the annex) was freezing, we spoke to reception staff and was told it’s all on a timer, 6am to 10am then again 6pm to 10pm. We were told that we had an electric heater in the wardrobe which we used to get the room warm. Staff also had to put electric heaters in the dining room as it was cold. The staff said that heating should be on 24/7 as the current cold spell made it worse. Heard quite a few guests complain about the heating. Because of the heating issue our stay wasn’t as comfortable as we had hoped.
I think guests should be aware of this heating issue before booking.

Lovely building.some areas needed a little tlc.continental breakfast fantastic choice.
