We stayed for 2 nights in December and found the hotel met our needs perfectly. All staff were friendly and helpful and food in the restaurant and at breakfast was fantastic.
We hope to stay again in the future.

As ever i had a lovely stay
The downside is that there is no public lounge bar so you either have to drink in your room or go out

I was here on a business trip with 4 other colleagues and all of us had some sort of issue with our rooms. Most of us noted that the rooms were not well kept, with the beds, furniture, carpets, etc. all quite worn out. One colleague had issues with the water, and only cold water came out of the sink. All bathrooms had dirty/moldy tiling and grout. One room had mold on the wooden part of the windows. The knob on the heater in my room broke off.
It's quite a shame because I stayed at this hotel back in 2018/2019 and I remember it being very nice and in way better condition. The hotel has a lot of potential, just needs some TLC.
Two positives is that it's within walking distance of several restaurants and pubs. The Wi-Fi was also very reliable.

As ever i had a fantastic break the only downside was that there was no bar due to change over of management they hadn’t got a licence sorted but they was in the process of getting one

I booked this hotel and on the website the photos of the hotel and rooms looked amazing , reviews were fair . We turned up to be told our room was not actually in the hotel but in an outbuilding to the rear of the main building. The room was dreadful, ripped wallpaper, cold , noisy with a child next door, unwelcoming I was grateful I had only booked one night . It was definitely not as advertised or expected and wasn’t cheap! I thought paying more we would have a decent hotel and room. Also I ticked pay at hotel on the website when I booked it as my friend was paying . Only to find they took payment in the morning from my bank throwing my bank overdrawn and causing me charges even though it said no payment would be taken from the card!

Lovely clean and comfortable Hotel in a beautiful quiet location. Delicious breakfast with plenty of choice. Very friendly and welcoming lady on reception Would definitely stay again. We stayed in the annexe with a pool view and a balcony .Would stay again in the warmer weather and enjoy that outdoor pool 😊

Only one night unfortunately, but really friendly check in, relaxed atmosphere and a great night's sleep...

Overall very nice, bed was comfortable and room was quiet facing pool. Just a couple things letting it down, windows were full of hand prints, and black mould in shower area. Did let the management know about mould so hopefully will be dealt with for future guests. Overall we would stay here again.

This hotel is in need of a full refit and requires a large cash injection. It was poorly run, decor was shabby at best and food and drink selection very limited. Only saving grace is the location.

Lovely place, just a shame the bin was oveflowing beside the rear entrance, and after informing them still wasn't emptied the next morning. Enjoyed the lido even though very cold.

I really appreciate the kindness and support of the staff!

Staff here are very friendly and helpful. Service for bar was very slow waiting for someone to come to the bar to serve you.
We stayed in the annex apartments, which was good size for us as a small family but was disappointed by the fact that the room was dirty, i.e walls with drink spills and food marks. Dust all over the sides under the beds were filthy l, rubbish under there, thick with dust, radiator had rubbish down them too. Bathroom was mouldy all over ceiling with black mould, and side of bath needs fixing. Also bathroom wasnt cleaned very well as there was still scum marks around the bath.
If you have children you can only use the pool between 4-5 and only if you wear a swim cap they provide. So i had unhappy kids as we wasn't told that at reception about swim caps, also we was told pool was open to use till close so we went down at 4:45 and had no time to use it.
Breakfast is good, nice selection of food, but cooked breakfast was cold and the got water for hot drinks was luke warm.
Overall beautiful building, friendly staff. Just needs a good clean, faster service. Also maybe some longer time slots for people with children to use the pool and section some of it off so they can use it throughout the day aswell not just over 18's.

People were lovely but a very tired hotel

We were allocated a room in the annexe, it was like a butlins chalet from the outside similar to a line of dormitories, there was a water leak on the corridor outside the room several of the tv channels were scrambled, and breakfast finishes at 0930 so be warned.

Road in needs repair.don’t know if this belongs to the hotel?

Booked last minute. Clean, comfy room. Polite service. Outdoor pool is wonderful!

Location was excellent but the property externally was run down especially the extended part where we stayed that was rundown internally too. It felt like a council flat.
Staff were pleasant and room cleanliness was ok.
Requires upgrading of the annexe part.

Staff very welcoming.

Staff very polite and helpful even after the wait for the room, the lovely receptionist went above and beyond to ensure our room was correct. This is the 3rd time stopping here and will not be the last.

Well nothing much to say . Initial check in was not too pleasant with the receptionist . But i feel they picked up after my complaints and buckled up a little . Kids had fun in the end . Receptionist around the pool area was poor so kids did not have enough internet for devices

The service was excellent at reception, but the hotel is tired. Water marks on the walls in our room. The room wasn’t serviced. The bath and tiles in bathroom were damaged. The food was excellent and the pool an experience, with a lovely lifeguard.

Liked the lido swimming pool, a unique feature as it was fed by a natural spring and required no chemicals

Beautiful Hotel and the only place to stay in Matlock Bath. Stayed in the main house. Rooms were clean and bathroom spotless and modern. TV and Wifi all worked perfectly. Tea and coffee in rooms as expected. Super comfortable bed and pillows. Clean and fluffy white towels. Staff were polite and helpful. Very quiet. Restful stay. Easy 6 min walk down to Matlock Bath. Take the shortcut straight up the path just past the church and houses. Didn't use the pool as weather temps dropped. The Spa area with whirlpool steam and sauna looked lovely. But didn't have time to use. Would definitely stay here again

Don't get me wrong, I like this hotel and surrounding area, but this room could do with a little tlc and refresh of paint. There was a coffee stain on carpet, dead spider on upper part of ceiling, scuff marks and dust around skirting and window sill.
For a family room that sleeps 4, there were 3 adults but we only had towels for 2 people and only 2 chairs on balcony. That said, I would still stay here again.

Food, excellent. Room, comfy, well furnished and spacious. Facilities, very good. Close to transport links and the nearby Matlock Bath. But the best thing of this stay were the staff. They looked after us and nothing was too much trouble. They were ran off their feet as they were looking after guests, dinner service and private functions. But did it extremely well. The owners should take heed of their staff’s dedication to running the hotel and reward them.

Food was excellent from Sunday dinner through to breakfast
Thankyou

The main building is a lovely old building and the reception and dining/breakfast rooms are well appointed. Our room was in the annex and had a balcony, which overlooked the outside pool with a lovely view and it was nice to have that. The annex building did look tired from the outside but the rooms were decorated to modern standards. There was a bit of mold in the bathroom, and the TV had really poor service and reception (many channels including C4 and ITV were pixellated). I had requested double/king beds as a preference - both rooms were twins and narrow beds, though the rooms were large enough to accommodate wider ones. The main reason I'm commenting is that this was not a budget hotel - I think it was quite expensive and it was booked as a special treat. The staff were nice enough but the service again was not the standard I would expect from an upmarket hotel - the staff were quite vague, and seemed to be extending themselves to walk across the lobby to get a taxi card out of a drawer. We also went for breakfast at 9.30am and it's open until 10. At this point food was running out and the buffet choices were limited, including the last slice of white bread for toast! so it was 'fine' but not great for the price.

I admit I was a little dubious after reading some of the reviews however friendly staff quick service at the bar I stayed in the annexe loved the pool view spacious and comfy bed balcony a bonus large en-suite good hot shower and bath the outside if the annexe is tired looking and the corridors could do with a makeover but the room was lovely easy access to park the car by the annexe and what I saw of the main building was beautiful a dip in the massive pool was lovely would definitely stay again.

Easiest just to list...
Dirty towel in the bath room with clean towel
No extractor in the bathroom so mold on the walls and ceiling
No net curtain or blind in the windo so had to keep curtains closed and light on as window by path to pool with everyone walking back and forth
No wifi in room ( raised as issue within an hour of checking in). Nothing done despite 3 requests
Tv not working in room
Telephone not working in room
Doors to exterior all had broken locks so anyone can access the building
Food and beverage service in the bar shocking. Messed up our orders - could not tell us if food would arrive within the next hour
On checkout found that other rooms orders had been added to my room. No cross checking.
All staff seem to be broken too, no one really seems to know what is going on or who is in charge.
Disappoing treatment at spa, not the luxury pedicure as described.
Please do not book here. It is a struggling venue pretending to be an up market destination spa hotel.

Great time here, close to matlock bath

Beautiful historic building with ambience and warmth. In need of some light updating but wonderful grounds and location and friendly staff. The spa in tiny but fun and relaxing and we had excellent value for money on our stay.

Had an impromptu night away over Bank Holiday. We picked the 1st sunny weekend and Matlock was packed with tourists.
The hotel is nice, reception were very pleasant and helpful. Room was spacious and clean. TV didn't work, but we weren't in the room to watch TV.
My only small complaint is the bar is open all day, but it can be a bit tricky to find someone to serve. It's also only open until 22:00 and the restaurant stops serving food at 20:00.
It would have been nice to have a few nights here and to sample the spa and outdoor pool.

Cant really fault the staff, but i was disapointed with both the service and what my very expensive booking got me. Shame really since the building is so nice.

We attended our sons wedding, it is a beautiful venue, very clean, delicious food and the staff are very helpful and professional

Nice hotel. Very pleasant receptionists and very helpful. Comfy bed and sound sleep apart from the fire alarm going off at 12.45am! Despite that we will return!
