This place needs new management. The whole place is falling apart and the hospitality is very poor. Lower your standards if you plan to stay at Douglas Fir.

BEST PLace for KIDS ---- This property is due for Reno- but the price offers alot,,, the suites were dated but mountain charming,, the facilaties were dated but offered plenty,,,, they work hard to keep things ice/snow/trash free and clean,,, and there is so much to enjoy,,,, I'd like to see the second pool reopened,, the retail area reopened, and some renovated suites,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, BUT,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, this place is great value,,,,,,,,,,,,,, its just not meeting its potental or earlier greatness,,,,,,,,,,,, This should be a crowded resort,,, its so much fun,,, but as the years have gone by,,its getting dated and behind on renos,,,,,,,, stilll,,,,,,,A GREAT VALUE,, and I will be back,,,, hope to see it thrive!!
The water slides, hot tubs, and barely noticed kids fun park are kid paradice,,,,, and unique destination in Banff,,, no one has what they do for kids

Main reason for booking was their indoor waterpark. 15% discount for it being closed due to a pump issue was unacceptable but unfortunately we were notified with too short of notice to switch to another hotel without incurring additional costs.

Hotel was clean and affordable but could use some updating. Hot tub was not hot enough. Transit to town was easy, having a kitchen was nice, showers wer great and I would stay again.

A family oriented hotel. We are a family of five and appreciate the space to have a kitchen and living area. This hotel is affordable. A bit outdated, but if that makes it affordable I don't mind.
Unfortunately the regular pool is closed since COVID and never reopened (the pool is not really advertised so that is fair), and during this stay the maintenance of the waterpark got extended which resulted in being closed as well. It was a disappointment for our kids, but we received a discount as compensation.
We still enjoyed the outdoor hot tub and indoor play zone.

The person checking us in was not very friendly… almost eye rolling a couple of times when I didn’t understand what she was saying. Very upsetting.

Hotel is a bit dated, but makes up for it with the comfort of the suites and all the amenities provided. My toddler had a blast on the water slides and in the play place.

A great little resort, wood burning fireplace and firewood provided! Outdoor hot tub as well! Lots of wildlife to see!

We booked for the indoor playground. It was good but very dusty. The outdoor hot tub was also a reason we booked. Pool/hot tubs were nice but a bit grungy. To be fair the pool were to be closed the next week for cleaning and maintenance, so maybe just bad timing on our part. Over all the hotel was old and in need of renovations and repairs but fair clean and comfortable even if outdated.

The stay was good.
The property was not as advertised.

Great for families. The hotel is older and a little run down but still clean and comfortable. Our loft was spacious and we loved having the full kitchen and wood burning fire. Indoor playground for kids was a huge hit as was the pool and waterslides.

The place is very old and dirty.

Key cards stopped working twice during a 2 day stay. Had to keep going to front desk for new cards. Otherwise the stay was good.

Happy with our stay. units are old, but well equipped with comfortable bed. Fireplace, but we did not use in September. Appreciated that we could park our car by lobby during day before/after checkout. Underground garage parking for our unit during stay. Waterslide was a blast, but it was closed after our first day. There was a sign at the desk with bus schedule, make sure you ask for free pass. Very convenient stop out front so you don't have to drive to key sites/dinner in town.

It was just an overnight stay and was not able to use the facilities. Nothing much to say but I like how the room has a kitchen, living room and fireplace.

Once we checked in, found our parking space and took the elevator to our room, all was good. The room was more than we expected! Very clean and well set up. We had a very quiet night and slept well. We would not hesitate to recommend Douglas Fir Resort and Chalets if you truly want an incredible place to stay while visiting Banff. Complimentary tour tickets also available upon request.

Great convenient room with kitchenette and fire place. We had elk roaming around the property. Only issue was the smoke detector keep going off during my showers, must have had the water too hot!

suite had everything we needed , we were on a driving tour of canada and this was one of the better self catering rooms, it was homely , and comfortable, clean and had everything we needed, we slept well, service was good , could get the bus into banff, only negative was that the shop was closed and laundry , otherwise great stay

Really quite run down place. Even though the place was clean, it kinda felt like it was falling apart. The carpet was without stains, but felt like it had seen better days and I wonder how hygienic it was considering I’m not sure it’s been changed since like the 50’s. Nice, friendly staff and well-maintained property grounds. Safe, covered parking was nice - especially if staying here in winter. Overall felt like a dinky $85 motel, but it was double the price (and we’d booked far in advance). I’m happy we only had one night booked here. For the price, not worth it.

Laundry facilities would be a big improvement. Bus service was great!
The staff were all very nice and helpful!

A good base for touring Banff and area. Free bus service into Banff. Very quiet and restful surroundings. Not a lot around for food so you would either need to cook for yourselves or eat out in town.

This is a beat up old ski area chalet kind of place that really just needs to be torn down and rebuilt. All of the furniture should be on the street with “free” signs on them. Big chunks of cement broken and fallen off some stairways. Not worth the price but Banff is a busy place so competition is high. I’d check out other places first.

The location was nice. Fairly close to downtown Banff and we were given free bus passes. We were able to see the Northern Lights from our balcony one night which was just spectacular.
Our unit was spacious with a downstairs bedroom, full bath, kitchenette, and living room. Also a loft with 2 beds and half bath.
The sofa was saggy and extremely uncomfortable. Basically unusable- my biggest complaint.
Otherwise, we had a wonderful visit to Banff and enjoyed ourselves immensely.

Property is very dated.

Quaint “apartments”. Staff was very nice. Furniture was very worn. Rooms definitely need to be updated.

Our room was very "tired", but it was worth the price.

Property is old and a bit rundown. Needs a major upgrade. We have been here several times in last 40 years , it needs to be renovated.

We got a suite for a night for a wedding. It was so spacious and very cute. Super reasonably priced. Nailed the Banff vibes, I just wish we had more time to enjoy the room and the pool/ hot-tub. I would definitely stay here again if we go back to Banff it would be a really nice place to stay for a family weekend.

Economical hotel in Banff. Friendly, helpful staff. Complimentary bus tickets for Banff and Lake Louise.

I’ve stayed here as a child, as I was raising my own children, and just recently after about a 15 year gap since last stay. I was disappointed in the state of the property, things are very run down and generally needed some major renovations and rejuvenation. I was glad to see some outside construction starting and hope more improvements are in the works to bring it up to date. I won’t stay here again, unfortunately, unless that happens. The nostalgia was wonderful but it wasn’t worth the current price.

Resort ist old and outworn. Carpets in hallways Look dirty. In our room some tiles were broken, at one a part was missing which can lead to an injury. Stains in the bathtub. In the Sideboard some drawers we're Missing. Old, outworn furniture, good bed thought. The two plastic chairs in the balcony were dirty so we could not sit on them. No table on balcony.
By far not worth the money.

Dirty and broken patio, table, no Mountain view ,
needed to have curtains closed because of ongoing work on
Patio , a neglected property !, not a pleasant stay .

This is the inexpensive stay in town which is fine. I stayed in July in a room in the main building and it was a better experience. This stay we were in a cabin and it was outdated and not as clean as the room in the main building. The walls and floors are thin and the neighbours above kept us up all night.
