A little hard to find something to eat around this area. Restaurant and stores around have short operation time.

beautiful nature area

Its a very quiet, beautiful spot close to stations to travel to hakone and the baths were lovely! Its nice to walk around the area. The man running the hotel spoke english pretty well, my non japanese speaking friend had no issues at all. The bedding is futons and it was more comfortable then the hotel we previously stayed at and was perfect for our single night stay
3.6
It was accessible via train or bus to all sightseeing places.
3.6
The location was a bit off the main city and main shops. Either have to take a taxi, train or bus to go around from here. The customer service was not very welcoming or friendly. Also the room was not clean at all. The sink in the room had so many stains and spots on it, plus the sleeping mats provided in the room had many stains on them and they were not cleaned. For a japanese ryokan during covid time where people are taking very high measures this is absolutely unacceptable. We only stayed for a night and was not happy. The only good thing was the outdoor private hot springs which were off the property and had to walk a bit to get to them, but it was nice to have the whole hot spring to your self and plus it was 24 hours.
3.6
The hotel was much worse thane expected. There are only shared bathrooms with only one shower for the whole building, no hot water in bathrooms or rooms, and thin walls where you can hear all your neighbors. There's not much around the area either.

We had high hopes for Manten. Unfortunately, these hopes were not warranted. The room we were put in was the only one on property without a sitting area (every room was open during the morning, so you can see what other accommodations looked like). We had to move furniture to put down our futons and then make the beds. Our tables were not moved back during the day, so we would come home to tea on the upturned table (on top of another, for space) next to our unmade futons. I believe there was service for dinner and breakfast, but was never able to confirm or order either, as we didn’t see anyone to ask until our final morning there. The cleaning staff we did run into were very friendly. The onsen on property and off were nice. For the price, however, I would not go back.

The property has 2 indoor onsens and 2 outdoor onsens. The outdoor ones are accessed by walking down the street. The meals are at a set time and very Japanese. The food was very good. The rooms are like what life would have been like in Japan in the past. They do have aircon, fridges and a small TV. Don't be expecting hotel standards. It's more like a step up from camping. We liked it, but would not like to stay more than one night. There is no sign in English out side the property. Using Google translate for the sign out side it is called stairs to the stars?

The facility smelled a bit musty and could stand updating. However, price and location were right, and it was a rare occasion to have meals served to us in our room, as at traditional ryokan. The supper was an exceptional value. Our room was vintage traditional Japanese.
Bathrooms were modern and clean although not attached to room. Although there were some miscommunications which caused a rocky check-in, staff provided excellent service during our stay. Futons were indeed thin, but we had enough to use two apiece.

Great Service and Staff is friendly. Property is much older than it appears. Main lobby area and washing facilities smell like mold and are not ventilated. Got sick after visiting.

Shared and private onsen available! It was great to experience a traditional Japanese inn. The room was cozy and the staff were very friendly.

This place was too noisy and there were nowhere to eat or even have a coffee.

The rooms were quite nice, but the nature of the walls (thin paper) were such that the manners of our neighbours had a large impact on our experience. On our first night, a couple talked loudly well past midnight, followed by several minutes of *ahem* passion. Drunk people stumbled up the stairs - very loud when you're lying on a mat of the floor.
The staff weren't overly warm or helpful. Their English is limited.
According to one site, you can organise food from the kitchen if you order it before 7:00. We tried to organise dinner at 6:00, but were told "it's impossible".
The onsen was dirty. Very dirty. There is established mould on the ceiling, the walls and floating in the water. I am not a fussy "clean freak" by any means, but it was unpleasant to be in. These are also the only washing facilities available. And if the doors are locked you have no other options.
The location is a bit more remote. There is a bus stop and train station very close, so it is reasonably easy to get around, but if you want more restaurant choices, you might be better off staying in a larger area.
Overall, it was nice to experience something a little more removed and traditional, but I wouldn't recommend this Roman. I would do a bit more research and find one that is cleaner with better service.

Authentic Japanese inn. It's nestled in the small town of Ohiradai, away from tourists and crowds. Do your wo

Service and food is good. However the condition of the room need to be upkeep as the smell of the tatami and futon smell really bad. Thank u

We came for vacation. The room had water stains on the walls, the beds and pillows were paper thin. We know futons are generally thin but these beds were terrible. The food looked good but we only ate about half. My husband found a hair in his food which made us lose our appetites. The staff were very friendly but we just did not like the room. We were so glad we had our own ac unit because the entire place was balmy and hot.

Location is so-so but Great traditional breakfast and cool guest house overall

Clean room and beddings, though the room was a little small and the walls are kinda thin, but still great value overall for the price.
Nice touch providing red paste bun every night after housekeeping with the fresh set of toiletries and towel + sleep yukata.
Would recommend to take the breakfast set or buy breakfast beforehand each night, as there are no open eating places nearby until 10am, due to being in the rural area.
Also consider bringing multi-plug adaptors, as the room do not have many free plugs.
Do note that toilets and onsens are shared (but the two onsens are lockable for privacy) though availability wasn't an issue during time of stay.

Dirty in room, found out three cockroaches in the room. Accept old style but not allow dirty. Must not recommend this hotel.

This place is very cool and has an old school aesthetic that will make you feel like you are in a wes Anderson movie. The food was absolutely incredible.
3.6
For the area the price is reasonable but this comes with some things to be aware of. The place itself is a little run down and parts look quite worn and dirty. For most people, it's passable but if you need to make sure the place is clean I wouldn't recommend it. There are two onsen in the building which can be used as private ones as they have a lock on the door. They are nice but again, show signs of age. Due to having traditional rooms, the walls are also very thin which isn't ideal when you have particularly noisy neighbours as we did. It is convenient to the station however and easy to get around the surrounding areas.

Excellent dinner and breakfast. And very kind staff except small room and two-minute walking distance of outdoor hot springs. Everything else was very good.
3.6
This hotel is very run down. Hot springs has mould all over the ceiling. Room you have to make your own bed after moving your table. Futons not comfortable on the floor. Mould in the room and old nets on the window. Wall paper old and falling off. Worst hotel i stayed in three weeks.

Mold.
Old.
Dirty.
And not near anything to do in Hakone.

Check-in was very pleasant and quick! Would love to stay here again in the future!

nice breakfast and dinner (sashimi), the hotel looks old, near supermarket but at 7 pm already closed, nice staff
3.6
It's great when the staff told us that we can use the private onsen 24hours. The dinner & breakfast serve with sashimi & other dishes with rice, please do not take the hotel dinner & breakfast if you don't like sashimi. Staffs are helpful & have a good communication in English.
3.6
Hotel staff not speaking english, dirty sinks, kitchen and rest rooms, exhausted tatamis, walls dirty. However : good meal

Really lovely guest house. Don't be fooled by the neighbourhood or external appearance of the guest house, our stay was terrific. Cakes and hot milk served by the hosts after a day's exploring the local National Park, and started the next day with a very filling Japanese breakfast. The host couple were genuinely lovely people with our wishes their priority. We'd love to come back for another stay some time.

The room was nice and cosy

Was great. I could leave my luggage before booking in. Note book in between 3-7 to get dinner and be back by the dinner time. The meal is amazing. If you are allergic or don't like shellfish then I suggest you tell one of the girls they will tell the chef and he will prepare a meal you can have. which in both cases was amazing. also free hot spring access. I recommend the one across the car park. hotel is also a short 3 min walk from the station.

We were met by a very friendly man who showed us to our room and advised us that dinner would be served soon and asked us what time we would like breakfast. The dinner was extraordinary and as so was the breakfast. The room was clean and comfortable and had a sink unit and air-conditioning. The bedding was clean and we slept well. there was a toilet in the corridor which was also kept very clean. We decided not to try the Onsen but instead to go to the lake for a view of Mount Fuji. (which sadly was completely engulfed in cloud).

The Japanese breakfast and dinner served in the privacy of the room is just superb! The quality of the food is also of high standard. The meals experience provided a good insight to the Japanese culture.
The hotel was also very considerate in serving the meals to the four of us in one room although we were occupying two rooms.
The private onsen is the other attraction in this hotel.
Sleeping on the tatami is also an experience.
A good experience for foreigners to Japanese living.

This Hotel in Hakone is very nice for Honsen. bit old but the food was very good for breakfast and diner, and for our first experience with honsen, the 2 across the strict were very nice for a couple like us ! even if the japanese bed is not the most confortable the combo : Honsen + diner + futon and japanese folklore ( tatami, yukata ) we were so relaxed !! great service overall.

It was december when we visited this hotel, the hotel itself is not satisfactory. The night is very cold and there are no heater outside the room and the heater in the room is not adequate to warm us. the room is small and lack of amenities. There are no private bathroom, the toilet also shared with other guest. The wall is thin, you can hear the sound from outside from the other guest. The only plus side is they give us dinner and breakfast for the price in this website. Next time, we will find a better one.
3.6
We stayed for one night in late Nov. We were not showed the outdoor spa tubs so can't comment on that. Overall, the service is okay and the food is good. It's very close to Ohidarai station.
3.6
The onsens really need a good clean & a good coat of paint. Moulds were everywhere & they were pretty dusty.
We got by with simple English & hand signs.
Staff were very friendly & tried their best to communicate with us.
