The pool is amazing. There is a special vibe to it. Breakfast was fantastic
Not for everyone. You hardly see any people unless during breakfast. You feel like you are the only guest and you don’t realize there are more people in this hotel until you go to breakfast.
Also water from the shower tends to go out to the room because there is no saddle to keep the water in the bathroom

Not only was the refurbishment beautiful, the staff went above and beyond to far exceed my expectations. This was by far the best service i had from every member of the staff in Portugal. From the reception when I arrived very late, to the staff in the breakfast hall, to the room staff who organised a delivery for me.
Nothing, it was an amazing experience. Will come again.

Location for exploring Alcobaca on foot is absolutely perfect. As the hotel is in a historic building, do not expect modern decor - but it is extremely imposing and very special. The spa is excellent - best massage I've had in years.
Better in-room coffee offering - instant coffee does not suit a 5 star hotel

a very beautiful building
The staff were rude, we had no cupboard space in our room to hang clothes and no tea or coffee making facilities. It lacked atmosphere and was very sparce in furniture. Definitely not a 5 star hotel.

Sehr zentral gelegen. Sehr gutes und reichhaltiges Frühstück. Die weiteren Einrichtungen des Hotels, z.B. Wellnessbereich, haben wir nicht genutzt.

Classic appearance with a modern interior twist. Luxurious. Spacey. Clean. Friendly personnel. Great breakfast. Good location -adjacent to impressive cathedral at a neat square with several pretty good restaurants. Ample parking space on the premises.
I realize: A matter of taste but to me it felt a bit sterile -some sort of ‘soul’ still missing. But all in all of great value…

The location and sheer size of this hotel are amazing, there is a lot of space in the rooms and the communal areas and it is so central you can visit all of the old town on foot with no issues. Nazare and Batalha are also only a short drive away, so it is a great base to explore form. The staff are friendly and helpful and for some issues we had with the room service, they comped us a nights' stay. The whole hotel was very well climatised with heating on in all areas to ensure the large open spaces were comfortable to move around in. The masseuse in the spa was also excellent and the short walk back to the room was all I had in me before passing out until dinner time.
Some points that are not quite 5 stars are the pool, spa and gym area area, which are dramtically under-sized for a unit this big and although the pool looks good, it was always crowded, messy and stank of chlorine. I can't help but feel that an outside pool would complement this facility nicely, as the weather in April was already scorching. Also a frequent and unnecessary mistake is only comping a single 0.35L bottle of water for two people with only a second, small paid bottle in the mini bar. Water is crucial for comfort and you shouldn't have to order large bottles from room service to get a modicum of hydtration. We also had te misfortune of chatching a long weekend holiday in Portugal, so the hotel was full to the last room and clearly not staffed to deal with this volume of visitors. Breakfast and room service were a total shambles for the full occupancy period and back to normal thereafter.

We had the most pleasant waiter for drinks and then dinner at the hotel restaurant Diego. He provided us with exceptional service and was very friendly!
One of the knobs in the bathroom shower is loose and the shower floor drain, drains slowly.
