A lovely stay

Unfortunately we were given the room directly over the bar and being an old pub seemed to have no sound proofing at all. It was tremendously noisy from around noon through til closing at 11pm and felt as if we were in the middle of the bar surrounded by all the revellers. I understand we booked a room in a pub but having done this before and we have not hsd this kind of noisy experience. The room was quirky but the bathroom, although clean, needs broken shelving replaced, radiators repainted to hide the rust and the hairdryer was out of use. The staff were lovely and all very friendly.

It was good in the main but room really noisy when people were below in the bar. Also shower was cold on one of the nights. Staff were lovely apart from one grumpy git (male).

Very quaint room, with ancient beams and a nice wee shower room. If you don't like noise, its not for you!

Very nice place to stay. Check in 2pm and the 10% off food and drink when you stay a nice touch

Lovely place to stay, right in the heart of Shrewsbury. It's a lovely old building, full of character and the staff were so friendly and helpful. We ate in the bar the first night we stayed and the food was hearty and home made. The bar was really busy and was obviously a popular venue. Despite the bustling atmosphere of the bar, once we were in our room we were not disturbed at all. Also, they give 10% off food and drinks to their residents - a highly appreciated touch.

Absolutely fantastic

Very good value and great location
Staff excellent and freindly
Only downside is that its right by the road and is quite noisy through the night...windos are also original ( listed building) and even though secondary glazing has been added it is far from sound proof

Stayed 1 night, small but practical room. Uneven floors but to be expected with how old it is. The outside sash window wouldnt close properly, so it was a good job inner windows closed. Was noisy as on the street. Thanks for the stay

Place was very sad and tatty

Easy check-in with friendly staff.
Outside the premises got a bit noisy in the morning (07:30) which would not be ideal if you were leaving a lie-in.
Room was tidy and clean but nothing special. I would stay here again.

Convenient central location. Friendly staff and discounted food / drink. Rooms are a little dated, but characterful. Can be noisy at the front. Would be nice to offer breakfast, though plenty of places close by. This was our third stay at Cromwells !

Our stay was for Shrewsbury Folk Festival, and it was certainly closer than previous places we've stayed: a quite manageable walk to the site. None of the places where we've stayed in Shrewsbury have been anything marvellous, to be honest, so we were prepared to live with the Cromwell not doing breakfast and with it being noisy at night. It is a pub, and we were directly above the bar, so noise was to be expected. Lack of parking might also deter some, but we parked at the Festival site. The room was clean and everything worked, and the old building with its uneven floor had a certain charm. All in all, it fulfilled our specific requirements.

Nice, old property, above a pub. Big, clean room with comfy bed and good shower. In centre of beautiful, historic town. No parking - used NCP Wyle Cop, which is a 5 minute (uphill) walk.

Only complaint is that the bed was a bit hard for my liking. But the staff very good and nice beer.

We stayed for 2 nights. We were attracted by the thought of staying above a pub. Coming in from an evening out and having a drink before retiring to bed was great. Great bar staff who were pleasant and welcoming. Accomadation wasexcellent and a four poster bed to boot. A great stay. Thank you all

Only three teabags in the room for two of us, not a big deal but it’s the first time this has happened, got a packet of teabags from Tesco extra at 8.00 am

Good size room overall a good place, could do with painting the sill on the entrance to the shower; it looks shabby.

Such a cosy little place, we had a great sleep here, and the location was close to all the things we wanted to see in town as well. The details of the wood beams in the building etc showed its history. Only thing that's a bit funny is there's no staff on site after 10pm... so don't get locked out!! If you're responsible and have your wits about you shouldn't be a problem, but maybe take a photo of the phone numbers that are on the back of the door before you go out just in case.

Central to the town, an old property, so a bit quirky. Great staff, good food & beer

Good location in heart of Shrewsbury and the room had lots of character. Downsides - not that much sound proofing between the rooms, the floor is on a slant (and the bed felt like it was on a slant too), mattress was too hard for my liking

We’ve stayed at this place several years ago pre-Covid and been very impressed.
However , this time was a reminder that “ nothing stays the same” The legendary Breakfast at Cromwells is no longer available which is a shame.
The venue on Dogpole is a busy road inside the town centre and as such is subject to some late night revelry at weekends which is something to consider.
Our room and bathroom was very small and cramped especially in the bathroom.
Food is standard for a Pub but well presented and the service good !!
All in all we feel this is a hostelry for younger folk than ourselves , well situated near most amenities but not for a quiet weekend !!!

A good reasonable budget stay in Shrewsbury. Nice pub downstairs, staff friendly and welcoming. Facilities in the room are good the room itself it cute.
Done warned that this is on a main road, and you may need ear plugs. Recommend for a night's stay or two

Welcoming staff at check-in.
Accommodation is in a great location with a lovely outdoor seating area.
Room had everything we needed for an overnight stay, warm, comfortable and clean.
Just two things to note, the en-suite needs a blind over the window for privacy from outdoor guests using the seating area, and the shower cubicle has mildew on the grout and tiles, which is rather off putting when stepping in to use!
However, a very enjoyable stay and would use again.
