Bedrooms are in need of a refresh, not as nice as the pictures suggested. Expect noise until about 10pm from the pub. Bed was not great, sagging and lumpy. Nobody was to be seen in the morning for checkout or breakfast so not sure how that works, I went and got breakfast in town.

Horrible hotel, dirty and smelly and the food is horrendous. Soend your money elsewhere.

Car park access wasn't detailed on their site. Ended up with parking in a separate car park and incurring charges. Phoned before hand but no option would go through to a member of staff despite numberous attempts.
Bathroom light broken in the bathroom as soon as I checked in.
Clock wasn't the right time
Poor communication from staff as to how to get back into the building after hours ended up with us walking around the building. A simple "you need this door" would have been so simple and saved a lot of hassle but given the other issues it's clear staff simply don't care

The staff made sure I either arrive before they close up or that they have made arrangements for me to check in.
The room is seemingly clean though ridden with moths and bedbugs which I have been their food for the night keeping me up the whole night.

Traditional pub, nice people, good price.
Perfect for a one night stay after arriving at Heathrow and heading west.

Great value room with parking located in central Newbury, friendly staff and lots of dining options, would definitely return.

I thought the staff were very friendly but the overall condition of the property was very basic. I would not recommend any of my friends to stay.

Wasn't made aware of possible noise from town, in room info said ear plugs would be provided, they weren't!
Sofa bed uncomfortable, main bed was very hard. Issue with water, poor lighting. Staff very laid back, no signage for check in.
Expensive for what in was.

Nice location for a stay in the countryside, close to the train station for an easy day trip to London.

When I booked it was not explained that the standard rooms were in a rather uninviting annex outside the main building, through a wrought iron gate and separated from the car park by a rough wooden fence. The room was dark and rather dreary, though clean enough. The whole place had a rather shabby feel. The staff did not go out of their way to be welcoming. (Rooms in the main building may well give a different impression). I would not choose to stay there again if and when I am in Newbury. Newbury itself is rather nice and, to be fare, the Elephant is in a good and convenient location in the market place.

We were given a disability room off the car park so not in the main building. So no view of anything except a fence 18” from our window. Not sure why hotels think people with disabilities don’t need a surface to put their toiletries on in the bathroom. I find this in every room of this category we’ve stayed in.

The pub is lovely - excellent selection of drinks and the food was great. However, we did struggle a bit with the room. At first glance it looked fine, but the bed was quite hard and uncomfortable, and the radiator in the bathroom was set to maximum and we couldn't turn it down! We just closed the bathroom door so the whole room wouldn't heat up. Neither of us slept well however due to the tilt of the floor and the hard bed so I'm afraid to say we cut our visit short!
We'll certainly be back to the pub for food and drinks though, can't fault that part!

The room was quiet and safe, if a bit old. Really no complaints except the door lock was temperamental. However, the service was outstanding! I can definitely recommend.

Stayed in the deluxe room, very spacious, clean and cosy! Nice little view over the Main Street (Babar room) - great location and free parking was a nice addition.
The lamp table lamp needs a new bulb or changing though, it kept flickering! Otherwise, the stay was faultless

Great value room in the centre of Newbury, staff are very friendly and helpful. We had only had breakfast but that was nicely prepared and very tasty. Although we live locally we were meeting friends for new years eve, and this is a much better option than taxis or trains. Will be returning to see what the food is like in the restaurant in the evening.

Nice little place to stay. The room we stayed in was just outside of the building that is shown but by no means was this an inconvenience. It was on the ground floor so no carrying bags up and down the stairs required. The staff were friendly, the property nice, the room was small but cozy and comfortable and the food was good. Parking was free and onsite which is always a bonus. My only complaint was that very early in the morning, someone emptied what sounded like a huge trash bin full of glass bottles which startled us both. I would stay at this property again if in the area.

Arriving at the car park is a bit awkward as there is a barrier and you have to get out of your car to press the button . We knew where it was due to looking for it on Google Maps earlier but if you did not know this you would find it difficult to locate .
When parked, we walked to reception but we had to wait as nobody to be seen and then once booked in, we were shown to our room, which was one of those outside.
The room was a bit dissapointing as was very small and felt cold and dark. It felt like you would not have a comfortable stay. The room was not like those in the pictures on the site. Very similar but not as nice.
The room was quite clean , clean bedding , towels, bathroom etc although there were cobwebs in the bathroom and bedroom . We even had a mosquito in the room as I was bitten and saw it flying around on both days.
I never slept well at all on both the nights we stayed. It was either bins being emptied about 4am or neighbours , who were talking on the phone i believe but you could hear every word.
The coffee machine was not working very well and you had to press the button several times to get a full cup . No other means for coffee and only black tea so if you didn't want either you were stuffed! Four suger lumps on day one then only two for day two!
We were very glad to be leaving after two nights and so glad it was not three nights as I usually book when down this way.
Again on checking out we had to search for someone as a deserted reception .

We had a very pleasant one-night stay at this quaint inn. The staff was courteous. The room was clean and comfortable.

I stay away in accommodation most weeks and the Elephant is overpriced and it was very noisy. £125 to stay and £12.50 on top of that for a breakfast with a over fried egg.

Central location in the town centre and friendly staff

Great place to stay, the staff was very accommodating when I had made a reservation error on my end but fit our family of three in. Ended up staying there twice at the beginning and end of our UK trip! will be back!

The room was meant to be a disabled accessible room, however the bathroom door was jammed shut so tight even an able-bodied person struggled to open it. The gutter outside the window was hanging off so the rain all night caused a big waterfall which was noisy. The food in the pub was extremely average, nothing to write home about. The towels were nice and fluffy and the bed was comfortable.

Amazing staff I asked if I could get a glass with ice to take to my room and one of the other staff must have heard as it was bought to me before I had even finished checking me in, the room was amazing especially considering the price paid when staying in Newbury in future this is the first place I check

Big bonuses of the hotel are the location in the very centre of the town and its own parking.
Big minus is that the rooms are over the restaurant/pub and my room had a window opposite the restaurant extractor so it smelt of whatever they were cooking at the time.
Also during heavy rain, the water started leaking all along the external walls due to a poor roof.
The rooms are clean and tidy but a little bit damp which is no wonder with the leaky roof.

Needed a place to stay to visit Highclere Castle. This hotel is a short walk from the Newbury train station . Excellent food and lots of other eating places near by . Staff were very accommodating.

The room was lovely and clean. The meal in the bar was very good. I was a little disappointed that breakfast isn’t inc in the price of the room. As I thought for an average of £100 per night without breakfast was a little dear. Other than that it was great.

Very large comfortable room. Excellent value for money and would stay again next time we go to Newbury racecourse

It was ok , little underwhealmed by the property.
All looked ok , bar area a bit dark and little atmosphere that made you want to stay for a drink.
Staff seemed to be going through the motions , pleasant enough , but with the reviews I’d seen I’d hoped for a bit more.

Very clean room and lovely friendly staff. Great veggie breakfast
