Surprisingly large house. It was in a great location we could walk to everything. Some suggestions: more bath towels, the bed underneath the couch was stuck and could not be pulled out, could not find a hot tub, needs some updating.

This was a very interesting VRBO experience. The house is very well stocked and the hosts were very responsive when we had a small issue. It is huge and there are 5 bathrooms. The backyard has a lovely room with furniture and a wet bar to hang out and we spent a fun night playing games out there. There are two issues that you should be aware of . The neighborhood is clearly changing but in the moment the block has a lot of empty properties. It is not well lit. Friends who live in Merida and visited assured us the block is quite safe and we had no problems but you should be aware. The other issue is that the middle of the house which has two of the three bedrooms has little light. Only small skylights. The back bedroom and kitchen and front room have light and, as noted, the backyard has lots of light and is lovely.

Casa Balam is a spacious and comfortable house, about a 20 minute walk south of the Plaza Grande. We had no trouble communicating with the owner, or her friend Fabiola who lives in Merida. They allowed us an early check in, as our plane arrived at 2:00 and we were grateful for the chance to rid ourselves of our luggage. Even though the area seems to be void of businesses we found four nearby that were all excellent finds: Cafe Lavé, Cafe Orgánico, Kombucheria and Kukā & Naranjo. We also wanted to check out the chicken place, Pollo Brujo, but never got there. The breakfasts at Cafe Orgánico are not to be missed--especially the chilaquiles! The 100 peso breakfast at Kukā & Naranjo needs to be signed up for the day before, but is the best bargain in Merida. We found that travel by Uber was very cheap, which was appreciated by this 80year old with a bad hip!

Lets start with immediate service from Fabiola. She was very prompt with all of the information needed, as well as recommending restaurants. Her response to my questions were answered immediately. She's a great host! The house is in a great location, very close to shopping and restaurants. House was very comfortable, and clean. My family was very happy to stayed there.
