About this house rental
Hakuna Matata is located on the beautiful barrier island of North Captiva, just 3 miles off the coast of Southwest Florida and a short drive from Ft Myers or Punta Gorda airports. Our worry-free paradise provides the perfect escape for families, groups, and couples. Upon entering the home, you may immediately sense the ease of life at Hakuna Matata. The bright and airy floor plan, complete with marble floors throughout, a granite kitchen and minibar, 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, creates a relaxed and comfortable lifestyle perfect for your getaway. The owners suite, with its own outdoor private deck, is equipped with an amazing mattress for an incredible nights sleep, luxury linens and high quality pillows. The ensuite bathroom has beautiful marble and a pebble shower floor and plush bath linens. The queen bedroom also has an outdoor sitting area, ideal for enjoying morning coffee and the incredible variety of birds native to the island. The children's turtle room is equipped with sleeping for 6 smaller children in triple bunk style beds, plus a pack-n-play for the smaller children. There are books and games, perfect for bedtime stories.
The kitchen consists of granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, reverse osmosis for drinking water, as well as a minibar complete with a wine/beverage refrigerator; just about everything you may need for your culinary creations or happy hour enjoyment. No need to worry about the small things as Hakuna Matata has a regular coffeemaker and Keurig, insta-pot and blender, basic spices, dish towels and cloths, and coffee filters and soap. You can enjoy your meals at the large table indoors or in the amazing screened dining porch overlooking the nature surrounding the home. These are also both great places to gather in the evenings or on a rainy day to play one of the homes many family games.
The private pool is perfect for cooling off after a day in the sun, or a perfect excuse to lay in it for hours, with ample lounge and poolside seating. An entertainment area is complete with a sitting area, BRAND NEW pool table and ping pong table, television, outdoor games, a grill, and an outdoor shower. All under cover of the house, for hours of enjoyment.
While the car-free island brings a glimpse of a simpler time, it is still equipped for comfortable modern living. In this way, North Captiva is a completely unique vacation experience. The nature and wildlife is booming, with a 350 acre park preserve in which you can walk, run, bike, and explore. The beaches are so incredible and desolate, you may feel you have stepped back in time. This island is the home of many protected species, such as gopher tortoises, who roam freely about the island. Manatees and dolphins can be seen frolicking in the waters. The beaches are also home to beautiful sea turtles, who come ashore to lay their nest each year. It is an unbelievable gift of nature to experience.
North Captiva has some of the best shelling you will find in the US, as well as unbelievable fishing right from the beach. There is a dark sky ordinance as well, which allows for the sky's full potential to shine through. Stargazing on North Captiva is unparalleled because of this, and is a sight you will never forget.
A golf cart is included with the rental and will allow you to explore the island to your heart's content. The island is only 4 miles long and 1/2 mile wide with 2 public beach entrances to enjoy the most spectacular sunsets of your life. Unlike the busy tourist beaches, you will never have to worry about finding your perfect spot for a day on the sand. Plenty of beach chairs and umbrellas come with the house. Just remember, nothing can be left behind as we protect our beautiful turtle mamas.
Hakuna Matata also includes a membership to the Island Club of North Captiva. Guests can rent a boat slip, check out fat tire bikes to explore the nature preserve, kayaks to experience the dolphins and manatees, and enjoy their two pools with a bar/restaurant for poolside beverages.
Two ferry companies service the island and there are 2 restaurants to visit, bringing a hint of the modern world into this off the grid feeling haven. The island is staffed 24/7 by fire/EMS professionals. A rental company on the island provides boat rental, a gift shop, fishing gear, as well as excursions to the amazing surrounding islands. Hire a captain for a day of fishing, island hopping, or a sunset cruise!
Just as the Swahili expression Hakuna Matata translates, our home will provide you a worry-free destination to truly "take it easy". Upon booking, you will receive all the details you need to book your transportation, grocery services (who deliver right to your ferry), as well as an incredible concierge service to meet you and introduce you to the island and your home.
Come check out Hakuna Matata for your next vacation! You may find that you never want to leave!

Not really sure what else to say, it was exactly as advertised, clean, well stocked, great location. Everything you look for in a North Captiva rental. Also 2 golf carts in good shape was a plus. The property manager, Andrew, was great as well, just a quick text or phone call away. Already discussing a return.in the near future.

We had a great time at Hakuna Matata on North Captiva! The house was perfect for two families and had everything we needed. The kids loved the pool and the shelling was amazing! We would definitely go back! Thank you so much for sharing your great property with us!

We had the best stay at Hakuna for a girls’ weekend. Andrew was so easy to communicate with and so helpful both before and during our stay. The house was clean and set up with everything we needed for the weekend, from cookware and coolers to beach towels and two golf carts. We absolutely loved our stay and look forward to coming back in the future!

Everything was great and I don’t have any complaints. Andrew was helpful and the house feels brand new. The house comes with two golf carts which were immensely helpful! We’re already discussing coming back.
If you’re new to North Captiva, it’s only accesible by boat. Be sure to plan out your arrival and departure to align with the ferry service. I recommend the ferry from the North Captiva Island Club, and recommend the luggage assistance service. You’ll also want to plan groceries or arrange for a grocery delivery service as there is only a pool bar/restaurant and one semi-fine dining restaurant on the island. There’s also only a very small market for anything you forgot, but it’s extremely overpriced. For example, a travel size bottle of bug spray is $10.50 and a bottle of wine that retails for $9 on the mainland was $35 there.
As long as you go into it knowing you’re on an island, you’ll have a great time disconnected from the world!

We arrived to a tropical paradise only to be
greeted with a beautiful, stunning apartment - with our own golf buggies and pool! Loved the number door lock feature
to get in. Once we settled in, it was clear to see every aspect had been taken care of.
With spacious rooms, the comfiest bed
and pillows known to man, it really felt as though we had arrived in heaven. The
things Ireally loved (apart from everything!) were all of the kitchen gadgets
and crockery, with a dishwasher, washing machine and dryer and all of the products
available to use within them. There were usb sockets every where which made charging so easy. The bathrooms were
adorned with plenty of flannels, towels and room scent sprays, along with spacious showers. As it was just the two of us, we
decided to treat ourselves to a bathroom
each! With 3 balcony areas, each morning was spent listening to the birds and
wildlife, overlooking the tropical paradise we were in, a real must! Exploring this
island, each day we found new treasure and the Island bar is a must (I could have
visited this every day). I could go on and
on, but really the only way to experience this, is to come live it. We will be back.
