The Space:
The location is equally as special as the cottage. The Old Post Office is within striking distance of the most famous tor on Dartmoor, Haytor, which makes a day rambling on the moors a must. There are many amazing walks and sites of interest nearby. You can visit the stunning historic town of Chagford , wonder around the quaint quintessential village of North Bovey or get lost in time walking to the nearby bronze age settlement of Grimspound .
Whether you've been exploring the moors, taking a trip to one of the nearby gorgeous beaches of the 'South Hams' , returning to the The Old Post Office at the end of an action-packed day is a real treat.
This old granite cottage has a warm cosy kitchen with flag stone flooring, low beamed ceiling and a classic red AGA ( this is electric and takes about an hour to warm up ) . It has wooden handmade cupboards with granite worktops and a central island. There is a dining table which sits 6 people.
From the kitchen you walk down a few stairs into a beautiful snug sitting room. It has a beautiful granite lined inglenook fireplace with a wood burning stove. Sheep skin rugs and super large comfy sofa. There is a Smart HD TV to access your Netflix and Amazon accounts and catch up TV.
Stairs take you up to the 1st floor landing from the kitchen. You can access the beautiful raised back garden from there.
Bedroom 2 has a queen sized double bed, a hanging cupboard
The landing also gives you access to the shower room and up some narrow stairs to the twin bed attic room with cosy lighting, a walk in cupboard and views down towards Ponsworthy bridge.
There are more steps that lead down from the landing to the main bathroom which has wooden floorboards, a bath and a separate shower.
The Old Post Office is a perfect retreat for couples, a family holiday or a small group of adults
Just off the main bathroom is the master bedroom with a king size bed, clothes hanger and large chest of drawers
All double beds are made up with Egyptian cotton sheets, goose feather and down duvets for that perfect night's sleep.
Please note there is no washing machine or dishwasher
Guest Access:
We have 1 parking space which is situated 20 metres from our property. There are more car park spaces in the hamlet on the side of the road. Right next to our space is a public parking bay that quite often has spaces for one/ 2 cars or you can park up by the ford or just over the bridge away from cottage.
The Neighborhood:
Situated in a small farming hamlet which still retains much of its old world charm, straddling the valley of the little West Webburn River, a tributary of the Dart and sitting in a quiet peaceful location in the heart of Dartmoor right on the Two Moors Way. Just step out your door and enjoy the gorgeous countryside of Dartmoor.
Widecombe-In-The-Moor, just two miles away, has a village shop, two pubs including the award-winning Rugglestone Inn, a teashop, a superb cafe and restaurant, a National Trust shop, several gift shops, a tennis court and riding stables. The larger market town of Ashburton is within 7 miles and Chagford (9miles), both have a wider range of cool cafes, bakeries, restaurants, deli's and independent shops.
The amazing beaches in the South Hams such as Mothercombe and Bantham are 40 to 60 minutes away. Also easy striking distance to the harbour towns Dartmouth, Teignmouth, Salcombe and Brixham
Other Things to Note:
Logs for wood burner- we provide 1st bag of logs and kindling for free during the colder months. That will see you through the 1st night at least. If you would like more bags - there is the Pear Tree Shell Garage just off the A38. you should pass this on the way to the cottage before you arrive. Garage address:
Peartree Cross, TQ13 7RB, Newton Abbot, GB.
There is also the general stores in Widecombe in the Moor, TQ13 7TA (2 miles away from cottage). They do logs too.
Please be aware of the narrow bridge of 2.28metres wide in Ponsworthy. So will need to drive carefully over that to get to the cottage. I have seen vans and tractors go over but I just wanted to make you aware. drive slowly over bridge!
There are a few low beamed ceilings so will need to mind your heads!?
No mobile phone signal
Please note there is no washing machine or dishwasher
