Clean and the staff was friendly

Perfect location within walking distance to Howards Pub and the grocery store. Super quiet and clean apartment. Overall a great choice for a short or long getaway to Ocracoke.

Redbeard’s Retreat includes a few units in the same bldg, but they’re spacious. We stayed in Suite #2, which included a mud room, shower & separate water closet (i.e., toilet/sink), kitchenette, couch/large TV (w/ streaming access), small dining table, and bedroom. This was plenty room for me & my husband. It includes one parking space, behind which you may need to park your golf cart (if you rent one), but we had no problem with this. Also, the immediate area seems on the quiet side, which was nice after being out & about.
The location is spectacular! It’s near Wheelie golf cart rentals, the Grocery/L-store, 1718 Brewery, Howard’s Pub, and The Breeze nightclub. It’s also near the beach end of the island.
Communication with the host was great and the check-in/out process was super easy with no keys to worry about (keypad entry).
I’m already looking at renting this unit again very soon!

Very clean. Close to everything. We will definitely be staying here again

My husband and I stayed here with our dog for four nights and absolutely loved it. It was very clean, spacious and close to restaurants and shops. It’s tucked away from the main road which is nice that it didn’t feel crowded. Recommending this place to fam and friends!

One small window unit air conditioner was trying to cool 3 rooms and fell woefully short of the mark. The bedroom ceiling fan squeaked so loud when running, it was not useable. The "kitchen area" was a bathroom type vanity in the living room with a couple wire shelves for a very small toaster oven and small microwave. No stove - 1 hotplate and a few random old pieces of cookware. Even yhough there was what appeared to be a very elaborate water fitration system, you are encouraged not to drink the water... there was a water cooler in the 'common' area for drinking and making ice. The bathroom was 'interesting. We were afforded 1 roll of toilet paper for 2 people for 5 days. Fortunately the island grocery store was right around the corner. Looks great from the outside - clearly that's where they spent their budget - on a nice deck and deck furniture.
On a positive note, the ceiling fan in the 'living room was well balanced and didn't make noise.
Just being honest - if you want to rough it, please disregard this review... Next year we'll seek other accommodations.

My husband and I took a little trip for our anniversary, the room was just right, clean and quiet.

Overall the place was perfect for what we needed! There was a miscommunication with the cleaning staff, so the place had not been fully cleaned at check-in, but the cleaning crew solved the issue without us ever having to contact the owner. All furniture was clean and comfortable. The bed frame is loud which made it difficult to bedshare with a toddler, but the mattress was comfortable!

Perfect for my 2 dogs and myself

Great location and great for pets.

Awesome spot and great owners. Very attentive and welcoming.

Was a nice place to stay on last minute weekend trip

Needs attention to furniture, very worn. TV was maybe 17” only in bedroom too small to see if in bed! Only window a/c unit very stuffy. Bathroom had to exit room and cross hall and no a/c in utility room where bathroom was. This was not acceptable. Host was very nice but would not recommend , Location was also deal breaker
Behind Henry’s Restaurant on outskirts of town.
Not good location for walking to places. Thank goodness, I had family there so was not there but to sleep and bath, but for the price expect more.

This place is perfect - right across from the main store and walking distance from everything! Eric was extremely friendly and helpful! Would definitely come back!!
4.5
Enjoyed being so close to start and finish lines at brewery for the race. Eric was super nice host and communicated with us on our arrival and the check in check out process. Simple and just what we needed for accommodations - nothing fancy - but comfortable enough and everything we needed for a couple days.

Clean, great location, property own was awesome!

Simple as it gets!!! Host is friendly, hospitable and communicates well. The rental is easily accessible and just a walk from multiple great shops and restaurants!

Nothing Special but was clean and comfortable. Owner was very friendly and helpful. I enjoyed the stay and his kindness

Where do I start..it was just plain awful! After 10 hours on the road we were ready for relaxation and got nothing but stress. From the 25 minute in person tour through this grungy, smoke smelling house to the weird inappropriate comments during the tour about the “party doors” and people walking around naked to the sheer dumbness of not knowing what “private entrance” means to the fact that our bathroom and shower were across the hall from our bedroom/kitchenette (by kitchenette I mean bathroom sink with a hot plate and all other plug in appliances.) so when you did shower/go to the bathroom you were greeted by other guests coming in and out. The pictures were SO deceiving. The vibes from the man who lives in the house had such weird vibes. Like he was so creepy. I have never had any issues with coming and staying at Ocracoke for the years we have been coming. I was stressing the whole time because we basically rented a house with other strangers. It’s not what you want to hear when you are wanting to get away. Save yourself the time and money and just avoid this place.

We so enjoyed our stay with you. It was exactly the laid back vacation we were needing.

The property was well maintained. It fit our needs perfectly. Eric was great to deal with, very responsive. We love Ocracoke!
4.5
We had fun.

As life long visitors of the outer banks, we know it’s really not about the luxuries. It’s about nature, it’s about memories and it’s about the locals that make you feel like family. And that’s exactly what it felt like to VRBO at Eric’s property, The Hanger.
Eric was fantastic from check in to check out. He made sure we had everything we could need (at no extra cost) for an amazing short get-away on the island. And when the weather threatened to ruin our parade, he offered what he could to make up for it. Riding a golf cart around in the rain is a new favorite family memory.
The hanger is walking distance to some great food, the candy shop, and the variety store which makes getting there by foot faster then driving and golf carting to them. His place was like coming stay with family . But not the kind that stinks after 3 days ; )

Me and my husband brought our small dog and stayed a week in one of Eric’s rentals. He was an excellent host and made us feel at home with everything we could ever need. It was a very nice experience, we will return.
4.5
Eric is an absolute amazing host! He is super helpful with anything we need. This was our 3rd time staying with him and it was a wonderful experience. It had everything we needed and in an amazing location. Can’t wait to come back next year!
4.5
Eric and his properties are so quaint and lovely. The beaches are the best I've been too in the US, beautiful and not crowded. Such a dog-friendly place, tons of restaurants and beaches are dog friendly. Wonderful small-town feel. We zipped around on the golf-cart mostly which was so fun. Such a great price for such nice stay. Eric offered such a nice overview of the island and his properties and also gave recommendations of where to go. Can't wait to go back!
4.5
Poorly maintained, Appliances had rust, some didn't work, private bath wasn't private, mattress was uncomfortable. No linens, no towels. Owner requester we clean and put out garbage. VRBO obviously does not screen properties, so good by VRBO

This was a great spot to crash for the night or the weekend. However, just a quick note - we brought a dog with us and we’re not aware that the dog couldn’t stay into in our room while we were out exploring. We loved bringing our dog, but it makes it pretty hard to go to dinner or do any indoor activities. So I wouldn’t really consider this a dog friendly property.

Easy

We loved staying in the Hangar! We were here for a week with our 2 dogs. Everything was just as Eric had described it. Cute little living area for the week! Unlike some reviews, the bathroom is not shared. It's across a tiny corridor at the bottom of the stairs, but is private. We never had anyone bother us at all! Shared entry with the Hangar and the two upstairs rooms, but it was very quiet. We were also able to use Eric's Jeep since our 4WD wasn't working, so that was awesome! We loved checking out the stars from the upper story, and being within walking distance to absolutely everything. Overall, we we're thrilled with our stay, and our pups were too!
4.5
The place was walking distance to everywhere and short driving distance to the beach. Was pet friendly.
4.5
This unit was a nice place to come back to after a day at the beach. It was simple, but comfortable. Eric does a good job of making guests feel welcomed and even offers the use of his Jeep. In all, we'd definitely consider returning if our travels land us back in Ocracoke!
4.5
Awesome property. Just as advertised. Eric was a great host. More than accommodating. Walking distance to nearly everything. Definitely going to come back.
4.5
Eric was very accommodating for a last minute request. Pleasure to chat with and went out of his way to make sure I enjoyed my stay. Great place and walking distance to town!
4.5
Eric is a great guy! We enjoyed our stay.
4.5
The owner was very friendly, we had a great weekend in Ocracoke.
4.5
Eric was prompt and courteous in all communication. He met us at the property and gave us a tour. The issues:
1. The 'private' bathroom. It's across a common hallway, and serves triple duty as a guest laundry room, utility storage room, and bathroom. It's not vented or air conditioned, so it smells really musty, and has serious mildew problems in the shower stall.
2. The room was reasonably clean. The mattress and boxspring are really low quality, and (because you supply your own linens) you can see all kinds of gross stains on the mattress and pillows.
3. The kitchen is OK. There is an old fridge with rust marks and a long-deceased ice maker. The 'glassware' is a mix of mostly plastic pieces that you might see for 10 cents each at a garage sale.
4. On both the side where you enter and exit and the property across the street, there is all kinds of visible debris; sort of a mix of construction stuff and discarded household items.
Overall, the owner was pleasant, but the unit is pretty sketchy. It's for sale at present as well.
4.5
If you want an island getaway this is the perfect place! It’s on the north end and walking distance from groceries, Howard’s Pub, Jason’s, 1718 brewery, golf cart rentals!! And a short drive to 4wd beach access, and a little further public beach parking!
