Good location, good price
Nice place, nice friendly host, nice view.
Not convenient check-in time. We arrived and our room wasn’t ready even after the check-in time which is at 6:30pm, so we contacted the host, and he came from upstairs to clean our room. He changed the bed sheets, but the bathroom and floors needed more attention, as well as the communal area. Washing machine was full, used dishes in the sink and the floor needed a good clean. The accomodation had a good rating back in the day, but now it needs some love and regular cleaning. The room downstairs isn’t as quiet as you would think as the host lives upstairs and you can hear him walking above.

Novel for one night; too much uphill walking for a longer stay, imho!
Our room was quite large with a large bathroom. Both were spotlessly clean. It was sort of fun staying on the steepest street in the world. The Wifi was more than fast enough to stream programs from home.
We didn't realise that the place had a shared lounge/kitchen area. Although it is in the description, it isn't that prominent. We didn't like using plates and utensils which we were unsure how clean they might be and sharing a fridge with someone you don't know has many pitfalls. There is a limited amount of crockery etc – Not enough if all the guests who stayed wanted to eat at the same time, imo The small heating ring had seen better days, so we didn’t use it. The final instructions say that no alcohol is allowed on the property, which was quite a surprise to us. Parking at the place was possible, though it is discouraged that you leave your car there, as a courtesy to “others” (plus you will block the hosts truck in). Walking up the hill does take the novelty out on the 8th trip! We didn't use the TV as there was no remote and using it in manual mode was awkward and not something we wanted to do. The shared area had a very large TV plus games console, but if someone is in the other guest room the noise these would make would be antisocial, or would be too quiet to get any value when using. The bathroom and shower were great, but we were left no hand towels so used our bath towels, which isn’t ideal. The best views are from the upper deck where the host lives. It wasn’t clear if we were allowed to go up there so we didn’t. View from out decking was pretty much obstructed by the trees and shrubs which hid all but a small part of it. Be careful of some of the metal chairs on the decking; one was broken which I only discovered when I went to use it! The property is quite a way from the centre and far too far for us to attempt to walk; we didn’t try the bus so can’t comment on this option. We felt check in time at 18:30 was rather late Some things in the description only apply to the shared area, such as air, fridge, Tea/coffeemaker etc. We saw no sign of an “Additional bathroom”

It was a nice place to stay, did the steep walk up the street in the morning.
I liked that the room had its own bathroom. Had a lovely view of the hills. They put the heater on in the room, which was nice as it was very cold that day. We were able to park on the street a few houses down, so it wasn’t too far to walk up to the property.
I didn’t like the late check in time (6.30pm) given we travelled there for a concert and needed to get ready early. The accommodation was accessible so was able to leave our bags inside. Also early check out (9am) compared to other places but I guess it has to fit in with their own work schedule.

great value for money but lots of things to be aware of before booking.
For the money, its a great place. lots of space, comfortable beds, nice bathroom, large kitchen area and washing machine. Friendly host. Being on the steepest street in the world is a plus and a minus (once you've experienced the walk up!) . There were a number of issues though
We had a number of issues. Check in was strange. From 5pm it says on Booking.com so I arrived at 5, and unable to get in. No answer from the hosts phone. The person upstairs said I should have received an email, but that had not arrived until 5.05 (surely this should be sent earlier), which stated 6.30 check in. Came back at 6.30, and the key box mentioned in the instructions was empty. not a great way to be greeted. We had to knock on the window of the other room in the property. they had taken the key because they were confused!!! Then we were in a different room than the email said. All a little strange. Note that there is a lot of noise from upstairs. the floors are very squeaky and I was kept awake until 1am one night as I am a light sleeper. Not ideal. If you arrive in the rain, its a little hairy getting up and into the property with your car (as you're only allowed to unload), Its not the most tidy of places outside either. No remote controls for the TV is a little annoying too. At this price though, we were relatively happy.

Value accomadation on Guinness book street
The property was clean and bed very comfortable. The bathroom was particularly good with a nice shower. The room was a good size with a good view, there is two rooms and ours was nearest the road, there was a shared communal area. Very good value for money.
I arrived as per the bookings.com check in time at five o’clock, the cleaner let me in the room but told me check in actually wasn’t till 6.30pm. At 5.10 I checked my phone and I had been messaged at 5.02 by the manager informing me of 6.30 check in…….luckily I was already in, 5pm is a late check in let alone 6.30pm - border line ridiculous. The Tv had no remote which was frustrating….fyi you can buy these on eBay for $20 just put tv modal number in. The communal area was strange, had a kitchen area with no sink, three mugs between two rooms and no kettle…..so this area needs to be made more usable and practical. The owner and there young family live above and there is little or no sound proofing between ceiling and your room……from 7am first night was very noisy, not so bad second night, in the evenings they’d gone out both nights so much quieter bar when they returned for ten minutes…..but bear this in kind of your a light sleeper. The owner also had his truck running right by our window for ten minutes early in the day. The walkers of the hill are also a stones throw away if in left bedroom near road, until around 9pm. Finally there is a lot of rules, no smoking anywhere, no alcohol anywhere, take your rubbish with you, don’t park on drive unless disabled (despite cleaner saying we could)…… The value for money however is why I scored this a seven and a good bed and bathroom.
