The hotel is historic and beautiful. The room was clean and comfortable. The woman who checked us in was nice. The only drawback (for us) was the fact that the first floor is a restaurant and going in and out causes you to walk through sometimes overwhelming spicy food smells. The room did not smell like food, so it wasn't much of a problem for us, but it could be for others. The location is fantastic and we had a nice 3 night stay, but really only were in the room to sleep and shower.

Great location in Inverness. A lovely historic building - be aware, no lift/elevator. Rooms were small but clean and comfortable. The main floor and halls smelled very strongly of curry due to the Asian restaurant on the mail floor, but fortunately the smell didn't penetrate the rooms. The staff were very nice - a young man stood outside to save us a parking spot nearby -he was a star to a weary group of travelers.

Great view of the river! I chose “pay at hotel” but the hotel changed their minds on that option and asked for payment ahead of time. I had to spend some time contacting Hotels.com to make sure it wasn’t a scam. The room was good, very central and the staff friendly. There were a lot of stairs.

Had an excellent stay and we will be back.

Tiny bathroom, with a wall switch for shower outside the bathroom that we weren't informed of, even though many people can't figure it out. No effort to tell us, so had to get dressed, go downstairs 2 flights to find out. The hallways smelled of cooking spices. The coffee in the room was awful. Nothing much to recommend except the location which was near where we needed to be in the morning. Also, late breakfast unlike other hotels.

Lovely views but not sure why breakfast not included for all guests .
A bit pricy considering that

Nothing to complain about, but nothing to...
Good location by the river.

From the Front Desk staff to the servers and waiters…everyone was very friendly, polite and professional. Nice room-simple and comfortable. The restaurant “Tiger on the Wall” was wonderful. We had Chicken Kormar (spelling?) and Curried Lamb. This was the best curry I have ever had…EVER.

This property is old with some cheap renos done so far. Could not get the shower to turn on and was worried to break something.

Nice staff and clean room. Excellent location. Near a long stay for parking. Did not get a chance to try the restaurant but looked good. Would have been a great view for breakfast on patio.

Very small room - must have looked over the kitchen as smell of curry in room all stay which wasn’t so nice. Room dark - would have been brighter and fresher painted white. Bed was comfortable

The hospitality from the staff was amazing! They even packed us a takeaway breakfast for our early morning tour! The location was great to hop on the tours meeting at the cathedral. As others mention, there is an aroma from the restaurant that runs through the hotel, but we did not notice it much in our room.

Great location on River Ness and close to City Centre.

Great stay in a great location! This hotel is on the river, in downtown, with the Heart of Inverness outside your front door. With all that, its still quiet and peaceful. Would highly recommend!

Nice family that runs it, but they watched us drag heavy luggage up two floors and did not offer help.

Great location but many factors lead to a poorer review. We were pleased with our room, however the hallway/hotel had a strong food smell from the restaurant downstairs. Also, the breakfast experience was really poor. We waited 25 minutes to be helped, then got coffee with no milk for another 10 minutes. When we did get the breakfast, it seemed microwaved and sausage under cooked. It was our last night and so a let down to have such a poor B&B experience.

Very average. Rooms were outdated and needed a refresh. It was uncomfortably warm in them but heaters were all off so not sure why. Served it's purpose as somewhere to stay but wouldn't rush back. Would've been nice to have been told that the hotel was stationed on the finish line of a bike race on the Sunday so we were woken very early but clapping, cheering, and loudspeaker audio calling the bikes over the line - wasn't even mentioned to us that it might get noisy - not ideal after a night out. Convenient for town however. Nice enough but nothing particularly standout

Quaint room, quite noisy in the morning if you have the windows open, but a convenient area with ample street parking.

Nice location had a lovely room with river/castle views

Shower was ridiculously small and bathroom had a very strong musty odour, we had to have the window open the entire stay. Beds needed replacing or at least mattress toppers, they were extremely hard.

I stayed at the Strathness for 3 nights, went out of town for 2 nights and stayed for a single night on my return.
It is situated on the riverside, very convenient to walk to shops, restaurants and the train and bus stations.
My room at the Strathness was very good indeed and it was very competitively priced. It was quite large, nicely decorated, with a large en-suite and spotlessly clean. I had tea and coffee making facilities, wi-fi, tv, enough storage, extra blanket in case I needed it, but I was delighted to find the heating in both the room and bathroom could be accessed 24 hours a day, at my choice. I had a lovely greeting on arrival and my bag was taken to my room for me.
I was delighted to be asked if I preferred to have housekeeping done daily, as I personally don’t. Huge thumbs up there!
I will happily stay here again and am more than happy to recommend it.

Hotel was nice, didn’t use the restaurant, parking was in the street, usual prices between 10am and 4pm,free after that,10 minute walk into Inverness centre

Room was very cold, hard to control the heating. Cleanliness was ok, bathroom was extremely small. It was a pretty outdated hotel. Walls were a bit thin as there was a dog staying down the hall and we could constantly hear it’s crying and barking throughout the night.

This is a lovely spot to stay in Inverness. Super convenient location to explore the city.

The hotel was very dated. The rooms were not the cleanest. My duvet had a lipstick stain on it. The bathrooms lacked ventilation so they smelled of mold. The shower was so small you couldn’t bend down to shave your legs. The rooms were also so small you could barely walk through them to get to the bathroom. Lastly, since they served Indian food in the restaurant, the whole hotel smelled of curry, including the hotel rooms.

We were not disappointed, comfortable and exceptionally clean. Lovely helpful staff. Just loved our stay and the car park for a long stay was very reasonably priced. And a comfortable sleep. Could go on. Lovely hotel. The view from our room stunning!

I was so disappointed with this property. I booked a room for 3 people and all photos on the Strathness House website shows the room for 3 people with a small table and 2 chairs by a broad window with lots of light. This is not the room we were assigned. Our room did not have a table, or chairs, or a broad window. When I showed the staff a photo of the room I expected, he assured me it was the same room just a different angle. I knew this was not true. As we were leaving, I saw another room being cleaned which is exactly what I expected. So 2 things... first, the photos on the Strathness House website are not correct for all rooms for 3 people (misrepresented) and when I enquired the response was not quite true. For both reasons, I would not recommend this property as you're just not sure what you're going to get.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Strathness House and Inverness was our favorite place to visit. The staff was very friendly and we had plenty of space in our corner room. We could walk everywhere and being on the river provided a great view. We found that parking for hotels was always a challenge but at least we could park in the Cathedral parking lot most of the time and it was close by.

We booked this hotel because it is right across the street from where our three day Isle of Lewis tour started. It was perfect, staff was wonderful, restaurant in the hotel has amazing food- superb tikka masala- highly recommend!
