The Grand Hotel Excelsior Vittoria is set in a fabulous location in the centre of Sorrento. It's very peaceful, surrounded by parkland and fabulous views over the bay toward Vesuvio. The interior is pristine, very clean and beautifully decorated with many interesting antiques and artefacts. Staff are excellent - very polite, efficient and confident. Food & drinks are delightful. Overall, this is a fabulous hotel.

We slid into Sorrento late afternoon just to stay for a day before we were to check into our hotel in Positano. Driving into the hotel through their private entranceway was impressive and the hotel itself is very large and beautiful. Upon arriving, the woman in the check in desk instantly upgraded our room and we were shown to a beautiful room with its own balcony overlooking the ocean. The room and rest of hotel exudes old school charm and elegance.
As we just had gotten married we wanted to have wedding photos taken at the hotel and in surrounding Sorrento. The extremely, and I really can't stress this enough, compassionate and professional concierge staff had a photographer ready within an hour and continuously helped us with dinner reservations and other things. The staff, including Mauro and Francesco were some of the best I have ever seen. They even managed to have my camera (which I forgot) delivered to my hotel in Positano. We can not thank them enough.
The only area that we felt needs improvement was the pool. Considering the great location of the hotel it was sad to see that the pool is not adjacent to the cliffs with an ocean view. Also staff at the pool bar said that it was not possible to order fruit at the pool, which seems odd for a 5 star hotel. After voicing our disappointment, they changed their mind and we were allowed to order a fruit platter. This was a strange inconsistency considering how we felt that the rest of the staff were willing to move mountains

One of Europe's best hotel, nothing is missing, view stunning, if more service it will get strange. This is a prime exempel on if you pay you willl get.
Owned by the same family for close to 200 years, a brilliant exampel on long term profit not short term profit.

This is an historic hotel. It has an impressive history and some beautiful rooms. The garden was lovely and the views of Mt Vesuvius are wonderful. The hotel feels a bit tired and neglected in some ways. We had booked a rather expensive suite and though the hotel was well under occupied in the second week of November instead of being upgraded we were offered an upgrade for an additional fee. We looked at both rooms and kept the one we had chosen. The upgraded room had quite a barren feel and was not warm or inviting though it did have a few of Vesuvius. I think we were spoiled by the exceptional service of Il Timeo in Taormina but the service at Vittoria was underwhelming. The workers were pleasant but no one seemed very enthused or positive about their work. It was kind of depressing. On the other hand the waitstaff at the breakfast and the Michelin star restaurant were quite good and cheerful. The Bousquet restaurant food was good but the decor and condition of the space was seriously lacking. Our suite was nice with a lovely garden view. We had a couple of room service meals and while most room service is over priced this was extraordinarily so. A small cup of vegetable soup was $22.00. It was interesting to stay at this hotel for it's history but I don't think I'd be inclined to stay there again.

Loved every second of our stay. All the historic architectural and interior details made the experience so special. Their views of the Sorrento coast were breathtaking! Was worth every penny!

The building itself it is exclusive in its' beauty; the location, the common areas make you feel like you are a princess in a palace;
the check-in staff some members were cold, unfriendly; we returned 20 years after our first stay to enjoy the beauty, the setting of the place; unlike 20 years ago we got first assigned a room which resembled a 3 start hotel, not reflective of the price we paid; only after complaining we were reassigned to a room which was beautiful; considering the price// value and the prestige of the hotel, we should have been assigned the room reflective of the price to begin with; it left us w/ a disappointing sentiment about the establishment .
