Great property and amazing views. The lack of AC in the rooms was extremely disappointing especially with the extremely hot weather.

Although the property is getting older, it remains nice, and the staff tries their best to ensure guests enjoy themselves. They offer a variety of food options, they provide exercise activities, have a massage/spa package, and they have a very eco friendly setting with wildlife on the property.

Let me preface this review by saying that we’ve been at Iberostar Tucan/Quetzal 2 times in the past 2 years. The resort we have in our memory is nothing compared to what it got turned into right now. Here are some points of what made this Iberostar Quetzal vacation a total nightmare:
1. Fire Alarm testing: It routinely had to happen every other day, if not every day, in the middle of the day, while we were taking a nap. Usually it would last about 2-3 minutes or so, which I guess was ok. BUT on the last day, it lasted for 30 uninterrupted minutes (even though when called the front desk they said it should be no longer than 5 minutes). We thought it was all and we can finally rest BUT NO — it still kept going on and off every 1-3 minutes and lasting for 2-3 minutes each time. The total time of this insanity lasted MORE THAN 2 HOURS. So you can imagine, taking a daytime nap was impossible at this place. Maybe they expected us to be at the beach from morning to the evening? I don’t know… Also, turns out that they made housekeeping go and silence the alarm every time it went off, at least that’s what we observed a few times. The management/security didn’t even bother to put the alarm in silent mode or something until we went and spoke to the manager.
2. The first room we were placed in had a strong smell of paint and someone was hammering non-stop in the room next door. Thankfully, we were able to switch the room but the only other available room required us to pay extra $150

Located right on the beach. However since the property is so vast, depending on where your room is, getting to the beach might be a walk. We didn't mind, in fact we loved that walk and the wildlife that we saw. The staff are very friendly and the food choices are wonderful. The food is high quality. We were not disappointed. The rooms could use an upgrade. The power outlets were very inconveniently located. We would definitely visit again

We recently stayed here for a family vacation. 30 family members in one place. We had to cut our trip short due to Hurricane Beryl, unfortunately. Some pros and cons to note.
Let’s start with the good! The staff are wonderful. The property is beautifully kept. The golf cart rides around the property are much appreciated. We stayed in an oceanfront room. It’s quite a ways from the front desk, so you’ll want the ride. The Japanese restaurant was good. We weren’t able to try the other restaurants. The beach was also nice. They keep it very clean.
The not so good, in my opinion… we went during the first week of July. It was so hot when eating at the buffet. There is no air flow in that area. There are fans very high up on the ceiling that don’t help. The buffet is open to air, so flies are a huge issue. They’re all over everything. As I went to scoop dried fruit from the yogurt bar, gnats went everywhere. Breakfast was spent swatting away flies while trying to feed our baby, and sweating while sipping on coffee. But, the buffet has any food you could want!
When you leave your room, there are sensors. For energy conservation, the power is shut off when you close the door. It takes awhile to cool the room off when you return. You must call the front desk if you want to lower the temp below 20 degrees Celsius. Our room never got below 74 F.
Overall, our family enjoyed the stay.
Also, book USA transfers to and from the airport. They were amazing!

The room and the view:
We have been to other Iberostars, this 1 paled in comparison. We upgraded premier room to a junior suite oceanfront on the G/F but our view was obstructed by beach beds. The room is large, comfy beds, good shower. They give only give shampoo, shower gel and conditioner even in a suite room!
Entertainment:
Some entertainment was exceptional eg Fire show. The other entertainment was OK - their dancing, costumes and sets were good but some of their singers were awful in the Once Upon show.
Food:
Food was good in the buffets. Restaurants were nothing exceptional. Total debacle - reservation at the Japanese - we were there by 6:17 and they cancelled our reservation saying they could only wait till 6:15!
Very long wait for Italian - 45 minutes! No reservation taken!
Mediterranean was average - nothing to write home about. Note their version of Mediterranean is seafood not middle eastern.
Property:
The property itself is quite small - if you are there for 4 days, run out of things to do. The property is beautiful - lots of animals, flamingos, monkeys, iguanas, coates, agoutis, waterfalls - which you cannot swim in btw.
They keep the beach clean by cleaning up the seaweed which is nice.
The pools are nice but mostly in the sun - no shaded areas.
Reception:
Check in/Check out - was very slow
When our room door stopped working - it took them 40 minutes to troubleshoot!
Spa: Good massages, small hydrotherapy area.
I would not go back.

Everything was great. Staff is very accommodating and friendly. The only con is there is minimal pool side service. You have to wait in long line to get a drink. Some of the drinks taste watered down. They have premium brands showcased on bar wall but do not actually use those brands.

Toilet flooded two nights in a row onto our belongings in the restroom and we couldn’t flush the toilet after use. Staff at the beach side buffet were very unprofessional and catered to the guests of their choice.

The rooms were outdated, the air conditioning was broke, the fan was broke, the food and drinks were low quality, bar staff was not personable, food waiting times after being seated were extremely long, dining halls were hot and therefore not enjoyable dining. Not a vacation, the resort does not get credit for having a nice ocean

Great for family trips for your kiddos. The environment is very different with the animals around the property. Lots of different pools and dining areas. The beach was really nice as well. Dining offered great food just needs better organization. In some restaurants you couldn’t reserve seats while others you had to make reservations. So confusing and annoying that we had to wait 2 hours to dine in at the Italian when we thought we had to physically wait there when we could’ve left and done other things.
