We will definitely stay here again. Comfortable, clean, and the bed was surprisingly comfortable. It sits back off the main road, so was quieter than expected. I can't remember the last time my husband and I slept in! The heater was a little quirky, but once we figured it out, it was fine. The loaner bikes are a bonus. All in all, a very peaceful and relaxing getaway.

We stayed only one night out of two planned. The first room the TV did not work so we moved into second. This place is rustic but not comfortable. The heater control was hard to understand so it was not on at night so we were cold.

Simple and clean. No extras (lotions or shampoos). Great location but need more lighting around the hotel. We were talking a walk before New Year dinner on the 12/31 and istead of nice Italian restaurant I ended up at the Emergency Room. It was dark outside and I triped and landed face down on the concrete. Missing tooth and stiches inside my lip and out. I'm not saying that it's hotel's fault, just suggesting the light in the area could be better. So be careful at night.

The hotel was good value and on the main street. It was only a few blocks from the middle of downtown.
Nice to have free bike use and the trails were just outside the backdoor. Helpful staff. Bed was comfortable and enjoyed the jacuzzi in the room. Some sand on the stone floors but otherwise clean.
3.4
The hotel is right off of the main street, easy in, easy out. this is more of a motel style with a park in front of your room type of setup.
there are two long bungalows with at least 8 rooms each (i didn't take a tally) and a nice country vibe. i heard the place was recently renovated and it looks pretty cool. painted wood faces inside and out, big wooden king size bed, stone on the floor, and was pretty clean. our room had a little kitchen and directv playing on an lcd (although kind of a waste, since the receiver isn't widescreen/hd capable). we didn't check out the jacuzzi or pool. staff was friendly.
the bad was intermittent no hot water. staff was kind of aware of the issue, they mentioned it may be because a lot of people are showering or the jacuzzi is running. said to try in 20 minutes and let them know. i forgot to let them know, but it was a good hour before any hot water came through (barely lukewarm otherwise) this was a 5 pm. the next morning there was hot water, but it would randomly get cold.
also they weren't able to accommodate a late check out due to staff shortage... which sucks... on a Sunday morning.
there was also no breakfast, just coffee and tea, which is not what the description said when booking. it didn't matter that much to me but i thought i'd point it out.
one mildly annoying thing was the lack of a night stand on my side of the bed.
all in all, i would come back. i got a great deal and had a great time. if they get the water issues fixed, i don't think they should have a problem keeping the rooms busy.

We really enjoyed this room, best part of Ojai! Slate floors, Western/country decor, in room hot tub was great. Immaculate! First room - hot water was out, so we were moved to a second room, which was perfect. Staff was very friendly and apologetic about hot water situation, which unfortunately prevented coffee in the am as well. If we'd been staying longer we would have loved to take advantage of the free bikes and the bike route behind the hotel.

Hotel staff very friendly and helpful. Room clean and well maintained. Had kitchenette which was a surprise. Close to downtown Ojai. Quiet. I liked the rustic decor. I would recommend this motel to a friend.

It was a very pleasant surprise to open our room door and be treated to a redwood panelled, wooden setting with a floor made of individual flat stones and a miniature hot tub in one corner. It was like staying in a rustic cabin, complete with the creaking ceiling with the changing tempuratures. We had just reserved a hotel room in Ojai as a getaway and didn't expect the warmth presented by this room.

The room was very nice and it was a quiet place. They had cereal in the morning. We were told there would be waffles, but the place changed ownership and the new owners don't serve them. The pool area is nice, but the pool is pretty cold and it needed a little cleaning. The staff was friendly and helpful.

We really enjoyed our stay at the El Rancho. The location is very close to town. Liked the cowboy/cowgirl decor; the rooms were clean, quite and friendly staff, quiet. The pool was not open (closed by the county apparently - and had been since September) but pool area was still a nice area to enjoy.. Reasonably priced - we'd definitely come back again.

I have stayed at this hotel many times and enjoy the quaintness of the rooms and of Ojai itself. The kitchenette is great for saving money on lunch or snacks. This trip it was cold in town and I could not get the heater to come on. I guess there is a trick to taking off the thermostat cover. I wish the staff had taped a note to it or something. It would have made the trip much more comfortable.
The cottage rooms are by far the best value for your dollar.

My room was right next to the road, the carpet hadn't been cleaned ever. I would not recommend staying in this motel. It is by no stretch of the imagination an "Inn"

I loved this hotel. It is right on the outskirts of Ojai; convenient yet just outside the hustle and bustle. Very quaint in the sense of well decorated to a western theme throughout. It's obvious the owners take pride in their property. Since this is not a cookie cutter national chain, little niceties are appreciated.
3.4
This hotel is older and rustic with a western theme. The positive aspects: 40" flat screen TV, plush towels, new Kohler pedestal sink in bathroom
Negative aspects: old stall shower with no shelf for soap or shampoo, no clock radio, bathroom that had been only partially remodeled. We thought the price was a bit high for the quality of the room.
3.4
Nice, quaint hotel in a nice, quaint town. A little hot in the summertime, but the room had a box air conditioner. The bed was large and the shower was clean.

The city of Ojai is an hour drive from six flags and about 25 min drive from the san buenaventura beach. The big flat screen tv with satellite was nice. Beds were fine the A/C conditions were fine after you turn the little unit on for a few minutes on full blast. Roof creaked a little bit with the wind blowing, but it was not that big of deal. The front staff was very friendly. The breakfast consists of Orange juice, milk, cereal of your choice and coffee. Its good for the money.
3.4
Cozy and not a bad place for a single or couple, but rooms are not set up for those traveling with 1-2 children.
3.4
The room was neatly decorated in a "western theme". It was clean and inviting. The bed was very comfortable. The kitchenette, bicycles, and the sauna were a plus! The only drawbacks were an overhead fan that didn't work and a noisy window air unit.

we would stay there again

The exterior is run down but the cabin was amazing. Lots of space, huge bed, big pillows, flat screen tv, big comfy couch which was also a pull out, working fireplace, etc. Loved the room. We didn't need much service but the staff was very nice upon check in and check out.
The big disappointment was the pool/jacuzzi and sauna. Sauna and jacuzzi looked as though they had not worked in years. The pool was very dirty and the concrete and grounds surrounding the pool have not had attention in a very long time. If you go in winter, that won't matter.
Wonderfully convenient to Ojai's main strip.

Great location! Walking district to the high street. Staff friendly (they upgraded our room for no extra charge :-). They are working on the swimming area, the hot-tub was not in service (no problem though when it's a 100+ degree outside).
