The view was fantastic! Just beautiful. The pool was another massive highlight.

The accommodation is very close to the beach. It also has its own pool (night swimming with a view of the stars was a lovely end to the day). The owner/manager is very nice.
Everything clean, staff friendly and helpful.
I also appreciate the small private terrace. Breakfast was very pleasant on it.
One of the best accommodations we have had in Portugal. Definitely recommend.
The reception is not located in the hotel so communication in advance is required. It is better to call ahead when you are coming.
I missed the opportunity to cook. Outdoor kitchen is available but I did not find pots and cutlery. However, there are plenty of opportunities to eat well in town (vegan too) so it wasn't too much of a constraint.
Unfortunately, the door doesn't soundproof the hall enough. So it depends on the guests. We unfortunately had a wake-up call from a noisy bunch of people at night. The second night, however, everything was quiet and sleeping was very pleasant.

Lagos town was superb, plenty of eating and drinking venues, shopping was good. The marina area was bustling with a variety of boat trips on offer. Anyone holidaying in Lagos must go to Praia da Luz, it really is a beautiful little resort. The countryside around Lagos is well worth a drive around very green and picturesque. We will go back to Lagos but wont be stopping at York House.
The cleanliness. We didn't use any of the drawers in the tables, there were things moving in them, I cleaned them out but we still didn't use them. There was even cobwebs in them so the previous occupants hadn't used them either.

When i first got there the sheets were dirty and there were hair on the floor and in the bathroom (not mine lol). But the host was nice and provided me with a clean room later on.

I thought the location close to the beach, the lovely pool and the house itself which was beautiful made up for any shortcomings. Pleased to find both a fridge and a kettle in the room which were not listed. We used the dining table and balcony off the living room upstairs to sit out on as we were in a room at the back of the house.
We didn't get the room we were expecting which had a pool view but we just used the upstairs communal balcony instead which was fine. It would have been useful to have known that a kettle and fridge were provided as I packed a travel kettle and needn't have bothered.
We were lucky and had been given good instructions and a phone number to ring when we were close to the property to get instructions on how to get in as our flight was delayed by 4 hours . I think other people were not so lucky and had to knock hard on the door to get in.

The location was great for accessing the beach and we went for a swim most mornings before the crowds arrived for the day, there are also two restaurants along this walk to the beach which both serve delicious food and super convenient to eat at.
We did find the walk to centre of Lagos a bit longer than we originally planned for and the buses and trains a bit unreliable so we ended up renting bicycles for the week from the shop 'Coast' in Lagos city centre. This meant that instead of a 40 minute walk it took 7 minutes each way, and as we travelled into Lagos almost every day for dinner this was much more convenient. You can also make use of the cycle path which takes you almost all the way into Lagos without the need to ride on the roads if you're not a confident cyclist however there wasn't much road traffic.
(To note: There are two very steep slopes on the road back up to the apartment and neither of us ever made it all the way to the top of the second slope on the bikes instead having to get off and push it up the last bit, however we aren't that fit. This might also make it harder for anyone pushing a baby in pram etc.)
We made use of the fridge to store some breakfast items and keep bottles of water cold. We packed our camping plates, bowls and cutlery with us but there were 2 x glasses, 2 x mugs and a kettle provided.
One review I read of the apartment before we travelled said that there was no hairdryer so we packed one however there was one provided in the bathroom and it worked great.
We used the swimming pool a couple of times during our stay and we found it very clean and really enjoyed using it and relaxing on the sun loungers too. During our week long stay each afternoon the wind got a lot stronger so the pool was much more relaxing and appealing to swim in than sitting on the beach getting whipped by sand.
The one small gripe I would mention is that the shower plug hole needs treating with unblocker solution. We found the shower tray would slowly fill up when having a shower which meant the tray also ended up sandy when we showered after visiting the beach.
We also packed a spare roll of toilet paper for the holiday after reading another review left on here which we did need to use during our stay.

The house is really nice with the common pool and terrace around. The room was very big and spaceous with integrated bathroom. Access to the balcony was very nice.
The outdoor kitchen wasn't very clean. The shower was very small and also not super clean. Airing the room didn't work well as there was only a tiny window and no aircon.

A little difficult to find and a little far from the main city area

A beautiful property with the most amazing service by friendliest host who really went out of the way for us! We loved our stay here, you can easily walk to the main town, otherwise well connected via bus. Super close to the beach, which is less crowded than the more popular ones. Phenomenal pool! Rooms were very large and well equipped. Will definitely be staying here when we come back to Lagos!
Honestly for the price we paid we have nothing to complain about :) We did not expect there to be an outdoor kitchen to use so for us that was another very positive surprise, as we were able to cook meals in the house too. When we ran out of toilet paper staff was super fast on helping us out with our request.

We were able to check in early. The location was very close to the beachfront. The bathroom was clean.
We paid for a twin room & upon arrival there weren't any available so we had to stay in a double bed. We were told that we could move the next day but no one followed up. The beds were uncomfortable and the pillows were much too thin.

Very nice place, nice surroundings, quiet place and close to the beach.
A bit old, and could be much cleaner.

The owner of the property is very friendly and even drove me into the town centre on the first night as well as booked my incoming and departing taxis to the airport.
The room wasn't equipped with any drinking water in the fridge on arrival, nor any coffee by the kettle. Which after a days travelling, or on the first morning felt a bit unfriendly. I was promised some nice complimentary wine from the owner on arrival and that a bottle would be waiting for me in my room - this never happened.
The fact there was no water or coffee though became less important when inspecting the room and how filthy it was. During my stay (1 week) the room/ bathroom wasn't cleaned once, nor was a towel change provided. (I wonder if it was cleaned in the first place). The owner never seemed to be around to speak to either. So I had a very sandy and dirty room by the end of the week with dirty towels.
I met other people staying who informed me that there were cockroaches in the property too so I was looking out the corner of my eye for this during my stay making me a little uncomfortable getting my clothes out and coming back to the room late.
I would come back to the room late too, as this property is 2+miles (45min) walk from town, which was another problem in itself as Uber's were busy/ closed past 1am.
I regretted my choice of staying here but felt stuck as it was pre-paid then a German couple arrived half way during my stay and after one night left due to the uncleanliness of the place. The poolside is very unmaintained with wonky slabs and the pool itself very dirty.
To summarise, this is a nice property that just is not being looked after. It could be great, but needs attention and housekeeper and some maintenance. When you work hard all year for a week in the sun, you want to relax and not worry about dirt/ walking miles and potential cockroaches - especially when you can find cheaper! I would like to request a full refund!

Was not clean and we had to go into the hallway to go to the restroom and the bathroom

The ocean view and the house itself is nice , just too bad nobody really takes care of the facility - definitely has potential but we unfortunately can't reccomend the place taking into account all the negative aspects.
Even though I wrote a message and selected a check-in time on the booking homepage, nobody was there when we arrived and we had to call the owner and then wait for 20 minutes. Also, there was no cleaning, change of towels or whatsoever in 3 days. The rooms, the house and the outdoor area could have been cleaner and the sunbeds were dusty and had definitely seen better days. For us the worst thing however were the beds/mattresses: the mattresses were so old and worn that at first we thought it was a water-filled mattress - we barely slept in those 3 nights.

York House is a wonderful place. It’s like private villa where you can really feel home. Enjoy !

It was enormous room but bathroom needs some updates and no elevator

Amazing staff, 10min walk from the beach and 10min drive from the centre. Has a big swimming pool and it’s a big house with about 8 rooms, a common room with a tv and sofa for everyone and it even has a bbq grill area by the pool. The rooms were nice and cool. Loved everything it even had a mini fridge.
Only feedback I have is that the towels be changed more often overall, even the washed ones still had this old damp smell which is not nice , so please buy new towels and bed covers as it as been used for too long now. Also swimming pool should be cleaned more often as there is too many trees around, or just cut the big tree down because it also blocks the sun for the pool after 1pm.
