Quite, isolated and intimate the rooms were huge with a secend outside secluded shower and lovely balcony facing a beautiful well maintained garden, the staff were extremely friendly. We got to known them intimately. The food was great. We booked only bed and breakfast but we ate all our meals at the hotel every day and every evening there was something different to eat every day and all very tasty the evening cocktails were also excellent we tried them all đ
The on-site scuba diving centre âScuba fishâ owned by Ludwick and his wife was so professional and we had amazing dives too.
We highly recommend this hotel Also it is a sustainable hotel and it even purifies its own water.
Everything was perfect We didnât even get mosquito bites.

Really cozy and quiet place. A lot of plants on the hotel area, feels like a little jungle. Perfect to relax. Nice view on the sea side with plenty of possibilities to sit/lay day during the day. Staff is exceptional friendly. Awesome terrace in the room. Highly recommend a stay, if you want to relax. Eventually, we extended by two nights.
A lot of beach boys on the beach. When walking around, it takes 5 seconds until somebody comes around and wants to sell something. But itâs the same for other hotels all around sansibar.

Minden !!!!!!!!

Overall it was a beautiful location and the staff were friendly. They did have everything we needed there, but we did have items in a bag in our room that were stolen - expensive earrings and perfume purchased duty free. I reported this to their email, as we only noticed once we left the hotel (we flew to Nairobi). That was a week a go and we had no response. We did not expect much in the response, a sorry would be better. But no response is not good enough. Our room was always locked, so it must have been someone with a room key and they went through my partners bag. Tarnished an otherwise good stay.
As above - we had two expensive items stolen from a bag in our locked room. Reported this with no response. One item, the earrings, was a personal gift to my partner. The other was an expensive bottle of perfume she bought duty free. Not happy. Some sort of response, even to say sorry or something, would have sufficed as we know little can be done. But to get no response after almost a week, not good enough and not happy about it.

Kena Beach Hotel is a small paradise with direct access to the beautiful beach. On arrival, we were offered a free tour through the water to show us local sealife which was very interesting and kind.
The room was very spacious with a large bedroom, separate shower, toilet and bathroom as well as an outdoor shower and a terrace. The bathroom even included a tube.
We also made use of the Spa program and enjoyed a relaxing couple massage.
The whole facility is very beautiful.
In addition, the Scubafish Dive Center is part of the hotel which was very convenient for our diving. They offer tours for advanced divers and also tours that you can join without a diving certificate.
The food served for breakfast and dinner was ok but could not hold up to the high standards in all other areas. The chips we had as a snack in the afternoon and drinks were great! There are nice places for dinner nearby e.g. Zanzibar Queen next door. Therefore, you could still have a great time in Kena Beach AND enjoy great food.

the tranquility and the beautiful designs and the spacious rooms
variety of breakfast itâs the same every day

Our room was spacious and comfortable- from the bed to the AC. We made good use of our roomâs outdoor seating area and the outdoor shower. The staff was exceptional: very friendly, accommodating, and professional. We booked scuba diving though the on-site group, and it couldnât have been easier- we were kitted up and in the water within an hour of finishing breakfast. Excellent boat diving off Mnemba Island!
The beach is largely unusable due to the overpopulation of sea urchins. At high tide, it is possible to float a bit, but this is not a beach for water sports (other than kite surfing) due to the generally shallow level and urchins. This issue affects the whole coastline from Kigomani - Pwanimchangani in front of the reef break. The hotel pool was refreshing and provided respite on the days we didnât dive.
Oh! Also, GoogleMaps shows the property location has a mile south of its actual location: important to know if youâre driving. Kena Beach Hotel is located directly next to the Zanzibar Queen Hotel (see photo).

The location, although much affected by the tides, is absolutely ideal. You are close enough to the north in case you want to go there (in my opinion not worth it) and you are enjoying a familiar and calm place.
The dive center is one of the best I have been on and I would say the best on the island: organised, safe and tolerant.
The rooms in bungalow style, quite arabic, very large, with the little garden are just lovely.
Live music on the weekend and just marvellous personal.
All very pole pole (slowly slowly) and hakuna matata (no stress). Is the island spirit. We loved it â€ïž
Be prepared to face the horrible road to get there. Not really fault of the hotel, just be mentally prepared for it. And if you want to go around with your own car do get a proper SUV.
The food at breakfast and the choices for dinner and lunch are limited, but very tasted. I think it is a fair "price to pay" for having a quiet familiar space and not be in a resort. Would not change it for a resort I must say.

Pictures on booking donât do it justice! Everything is better than on the pictures. Itâs a small paradise, everything is green, with lots of scented flowers and with plenty of place to relax. There is also a lot of shade everywhere, with different (and comfortable) sunbeds. Our room was very nice and spacious with a lovely deck in front, the a/c also worked perfectly. The pool is under the roof (which was a plus for us) and really clean. The manager and personell are welcoming and helpful. The reef walk is one of the highlights. The resort is quiet and laid back. We loved it there and would love to return one day!
The window over the bed could have shades in order to block the light in the early morning hours. We told this to the manager and he agreed that this should be remedied. There could be a better selection of desserts at dinner or the ones they have should be done better. The chairs in front of the room would need cushions and game room could have some board games. Besides this smaller things everything was great! Keep up the good work guys!

The rooms were spacious, very comfortable and clean. The staff were friendly and absolutely great from the moment we step foot on the property. We definitely recommended and will continue recommending this to friends who would visit Matemwe, Zanzibar.

We loved the sea highly recommended if you want to have an amazing mid day trip
The food should be a bit more vegetarian friendly.we had to order some things separately.these separate foods were not to the taste we expected

The staff is very friendly and they care about your well being truly. We really felt like we've been taken good care of. Our 17 months baby enjoyed playing with the owner's dog, we saw bush baby at dinner time, beautiful nature and beautiful people. The food was amazing, the rooms were clean and specious.
It is not possible to swim in the sea, but easy to go to near by beaches daily and for a quality like this with the price we were happy to stay in this hotel.

The Staff was very friendly and helpful and they fulfilled all of our wishes. The Manager of the Hotel were around and inquired about our well-being.
The Pool is huge and very nice. It is even covered and thus protected from the sun but also from rain.
The hotel has direct access to the beach, which was also very nice.
The Food was really good and varied.
We booked a standard room but the gave us a Upgrade, so we had a outdoor shower, which we really enjoyed.

We had a wonderful stay here with our family over UK half term. The hotel is really charming and private as you get to stay in little bungalows along a winding wooden path with a stream running through and lovely vegetation planted everywhere. The two best things are probably how hospitable, kind and friendly the staff were and also how amazing the food was. The pool/snooker table and dart board were great for our son (and us). The beach is golden and stunning. reef shoes are guided as there are sea urchins. The hotel organised a reef walk for us right out to the edge of the reef which was cool. The enclosed area of sun loungers within the hotel facilities just next to the beach is great to protect from the wind if any, and give privacy. There is a PADI dive school on site - scuba fish - which were super and we booked our snorkelling trip with them. Brian who runs the tour operation out of the hotel was super helpful and we booked a car for the day/private tour of Stone Town, the forest (monkeys too) and dinner at the Rock. via Brian the hotel also organised our airport transfers.
Rather than single our any particular hotel staff member they were all just lovely.
Highly recommend

Very attentive staff, always smiling and proactive.
Excellent food and drinks (all inclusive booking) with various local meals available for lunch and dinner. They even made us ugali (Tanzanian speciality) when it was not on the menu.
Manager came to check 2 times in 6 days to ensure everything was in order, and even asked us to let him know if we had any specific requests.
Nice beach with staff removing seaweed every morning.
Large beautiful room.
Checkout at 10:00, but we could use the room until our 2:00pm departure at no extra charge as hotel was not full.

Very nice, authentic hotel with lush green garden,
great kitchen, very friendly staff and calm beach.
Rama and George are the best bartenders :)!
Beach is clean and there are absolutely not too
many beach boys compared to the neighbour
hotels in Matemwe Beach⊠(we did a huge walk
into both direction right and left from Kena on the
beach and really, this is the most calm part of this
long beach!)
Sand is powdery white. High-tide low-tide is
relevant but something that is worthy to experience
Ocean has lots of seaweed and sea urchins around
this beach but this is the Ocean, not a pool
so this has not disturbed us at all :)
Overall great relaxing and clean location with good
kitchen and friendly staff!
Nothing bad at all, only 1 small comment:
In all inclusive pack there are only 3 coctails on
the list, that could have a bit more choices
but not a huge problem, there
were separate spirits and juices on
the list so you are able to mix your own coctails :)

The staff were amazing. couldnât do enough to help us.. on a day trip, provided breakfast for an early start and even room service when were tired on return. always pleased to see us.. very friendly.
Track to the hotel very hard going once off the main road, although not too long. nothing to dislike about anything else.

The first few days we were the only guests at the resort and the breakfast was just average. When there were more guests there were a bigger variety.
The bicycles were had flat wheels/very old and could not be used. We also struggled to get dollars from the hotel.
4.5
The hotel is nice with large Rooms and close to the beach. Swimming in the ocean is due to the tides difficult. The Pool is fine. The people in the hotel are very friendly and helpful. The meals are excellent and the chef is able to fullfil individual wishes. We enjoyed our stay very much and we used the time to finish our PADI Open Diver course in the attached diving school. The only downturn are the VERY EXPENSIVE trips offered by the hotel. It's always better to find alternative offers.
The staff at the hotel are just great and friendly.

Itâs a little bit hard to give a full review as we were there at the start of the season and it was pretty much empty apart from us. Great staff, great beach and really good food (they tried very hard to offer us everything we wanted to try). Itâs a great idea to have refillable water to save the environment but it may be a good idea to have a filling station near the restaurant/bar area aswell as the reception area.
It was very expensive to do outside activities
but that seems to just be Zanzibar in general.

We loved our family vacation at Kena Beach Hotel. The staff were super friendly and helpful. All our needs were always met. They went above and beyond to keep our little ones entertained and happy. We really enjoyed every minute of our time at Kena. Felt like we were part of the family. Thank you Kena!

Friendly and personable staff, comfortable hotel in a beautiful location, and wonderful rooms. The on-site dive (and snorkel) center, along with the proximity to Memba Island for diving and snorkelling, is a plus! We loved cycling on the beach (with the free bikes), splashing in the waves at high tide, cooling off in the big pool, and lazing on the beach. The food was great and varied. The family rooms are very convenient and great value.

Hi,
I would recommend a more rich breakfast in cheese, fruits, etc.
Thanks,
A
Hi,
I didnât like the cocktails. They tasted waterly and had too much sugar. I would recommend following classic Cocktail receipts.
Thanks,
A
