Former huge fan
‼️Scroll to the bottom to see my previous, 10.0 review. What follows is my updated & extremely disappointing experience which has prompted me to (for the 2nd time ever) change my rating & review for a location. This is actually a quite serious & frankly, shocking experience for me. Warning, this will be a lengthy review‼️
My recent experience at the Cozy Inn...
Let me preface this by saying I was a long time fan of this place. What it lacked in amenities & basic upkeep it made up for with the obvious & genuine care the owners, a husband & wife team, had for their guests. I have respect for any business that appreciates hearing constructive criticism in the name of improving a customers experience. Because of this, I have referred several people to stay at the Cozy. My husband & I have stayed here literally dozens of times in the last 3 years. From 1 night, to a week recovery post-surgery. I could go into extreme detail of several events leading up to this grand, foul last encounter. But I will cut to the chase.
The husband & wife team have recently become scarce on the property. In their place are 3 employees. One of which is their nephew. Family business. Awesome. I'm all for it. This young man is a nervous mix of forced maturity & responsibility. Well, the Cozy requires a $50 deposit for each stay. I have always paid this in cash and have always received it back in cash upon checkout. On this day, I was given my $50 deposit back. The nephew placed in my hand 2 twenty dollar bills & a 10 dollar bill. I proceeded to walk to the gas station next door to get a few drinks & snacks. I handed the cashier one of the $20's. He immediately handed it back to me and said "this is fake". Me, "I'm sorry WHAT?? I literally just got this from the hotel next door!" He shrugged. So I marched back over. Along the way I was thinking.. "ok, he didn't know it's fake. This is just a mistake.

I like they accommodate us in a better room after my first 2 nights and it was way better
I did not like the first 2 nights in the first floor near the office and the street.

The towel was dirty and also the bed sheet had a footstep on it. The carpet seem like it has not been clean in a while.

I love this little gem in Costa Mesa. The staff is extremely accommodating. Always very warm and easy to check in/out (the Biscoff cookies don't hurt either). The rooms are SOOO much bigger than anywhere around for the price. It's an all around bargain and an all around pleasure to stay here.
Nada.

It was an awesome place to stay. There are countless little motels along that stretch of road. None of which provides the value, cleanliness, and price point as this motel.

The room was nice and spacious. There was not smell of smoke. It had a microwave and fridge. It had a coffee maker but not cups or silverware in the room to have even oatmeal or coffee. Location right off the freeway and a gas station right next door was and added bonus. Price was right.

I was contacted twice because they wanted to bleach a continually smoke damaged room. Not welcomed when driving in from out of state to visit I'll family.

I discovered a bed bug on my arm in bed. I got up and searched more and found the biggest bed bugs I have ever seen.

I liked the reception area, it was welcoming. Owner is very helpful, warm and knowledgeable. Rooms are spacious and clean. Feel it is a great value and would stay there again if in the area!
