Spacious warm room
Converted motel office but only had two sixty watt bulbs (one in an unusable alcove off the room). So too dark to read etc. suggest move the standard lamp and add two bedside lights - at least.
the furnaces for the motel central heading are in the next room., with no significant sound insulation. so from 5am it is very noisy. needs very effective sound insulation added.
a hair dryer would be expected
cans of paint and paper rubbish could be removed from the wardrobe.
poor value for good money.- needs to improve, and could be improved as above.
hope the feedback helps

Helpful staff.
It needs better maintenance of wood areas and needs paint touch ups.

Noisy pipes kept me awake all night. Water pressure non existent. Very disappointed. They need to up date this place to the 21st century. Great location.

Nice area
The pictures on Booking.com doesn’t match reality 😞 The pool looked inviting on the picture but in reality it has been closed for years. The room we reserved was not available when we arrived so we got another smaller one…

Very disappointed. The photos and description of the place were quite different than what we got when we arrived. Dreary, dark room, furnishing not in great shape, feel old and worn. No breakfast available. More of a motel feeling than a big old house as advertised.
Room was dark and dreary. One long rectangular room (a suite?) with no windows in the back. Furniture and decorations felt very cheap, worn, and tacky. No breakfast available. Thought it would feel like an inn, but it felt more like a roadside motel.

The scenic setting and grounds were great.
The room was not kept up properly and service was sub-standard. There was an overall lack of care and attentiveness to guests, not a nice feeling at all.

I think, once upon a time, someone put their heart and soul into this property, but that is no longer the case. I spent 4 nights in one of the Barnside Luxury Suites ($250/night). The room decor was dated and drab. The room was "kinda" clean (although I heard from other guests that they had bed bugs). The crank windows were stuck open (leading to bugs and street noise) until the handyman/chef came and screwed them shut. This was unfortunate since the AC also didn't work (and now there was no air flow). In addition, there were times when no water came out of the faucets (other times the hot came out of the cold and vice versa; sometimes there was no hot water at all). Finally, I was over charged for taking my dog (the website said $10/night - I was charged $25).
The worst part, I attempted to be cordial and bring these matters to the attention of the manager. He did send over the chef/handyman and brought me a fan. Otherwise, he seemed bothered. When asked about any type of refund he would not answer or return my calls.
I hope, for the property's sake, someone with a heart to manage it - and the customers - will take it over before it falls permanently into disrepair.

The location and atmosphere were off the hook. Quiet, quaint and really quiet amazing. The grounds were beautiful, small foot bridge over a rocky creek, breath taking. Huge covered porch with nice wicker furniture. The mattress was great, this isn't a room it is a suite!
The suite (in it's day) was no doubt spectacular. There is a nice restaurant on site., which was awesome to walk to after a long day of driving.
There were issues, the window openers were broken, it was very stuffy and warm in the room. It was over 90 that day.
The A/C didn't work either and there was no one onsite to talk to about it. We had called and left a message with no response. The sofa was so worn out you sank waaaay down into it and the underside upholstery was torn and hanging down. There is a small cart in the bathroom that was broken and a light sconce above the fireplace that was missing one half, the arm had been broken, Although there were anti-slip pads under the beautiful rugs, they did little help in stopping them from sliding around.
There were no Kleenex in the room and only 1 each package of coffee (decaf and regular).

I liked the whole room was absolutely gorgeous the jacuzzi tub was my favorite 🙂 And it was perfect that there was a restaurant right outback of the room.
The carpet was bunched up easily tripped over but it was an absolutely beautiful day I would love to stay longer.

quiet , dainty , room was right next to the restaurant.
Room toilet was finicky, not cleaned throughly in the bathroom as residue built up along the side of the tub and hair in the corner . Also , outdated appliances. Booking.com not accurately describe amenities and property features.

Our experience with 1896 House Country Inn is extremely disappointing. I reserved two rooms in the Barnside "Luxury Suite" for three nights through Booking.com (charged in advance). When I arrived at the property around 5 pm on Feb. 21, 2022, with my wife, two children, and parents aged 88 and 82, in subfreezing weather, the heat wasn’t working properly in the rooms—my parents’ was stuck at a chilly 66F and wouldn’t go up; ours was stuck at a sweltering 79F and wouldn’t go down. One thermostat had dead batteries which we replaced with some spares lying about, but the problem persisted. A loud space heater in the cold room edged the temperature up a degree, but was disturbing and only marginally effective. There were other issues: the TV area was thick with dust, some light bulbs were burned out, and the refrigerator promised on Booking--which my wife needed for her glaucoma medication--was missing from our room. The only hotel staff member on site, who was also busy running the restaurant, acknowledged the heat problem and said the heat repair person had cancelled that day and there was nothing she could do--she offered another room but the heat there was also stuck at 66F. The website claims that the Barnside rooms "anticipate your every need," but this claim was not met even in regard to some essential services. We therefore found accommodations at a different hotel and returned the keys. The staff member took notes on our case, contacted the offsite manager, and said she would support our refund request. Since then, the front desk has three times promised us a call from the manager "in about an hour," but the manager has not followed through. Meantime, we filed a complaint with Booking.com, to which 1896 House replied that there had been no heating issues (though the staff person herself admitted the problems at the time) and refused compensation.
