I like old lady , she is very kind , like my mother. Although she cannot speak English.

距離平湯車站很近,房間簡潔乾淨,唯一不變行李要自行拿到2樓,沒有電梯

This was a fantastic lay over on the way to Kamicochi. The indoor and outdoor baths were a real treat, overlooking the mountains.

Very cute private onsen. So relax

Location was excellent. Just a few minutes walk from the bus station. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly too! Would definitely go back again!

The open-air onsen is the highlight of this lovely place! everything clean. 20 mins away by car from Shinhotaka Ropeway to hike Yarigatake or accommodation is next to the bus station to Kamikochi. Accomodation provides restaurant tips.
Futons are a little bit hard for more than one night.

Good location, very clean, simple.
Shared bathroom.

relax and great ryokan stay

The outdoor onsen is a dream and the massage chair was actually incredible. Cute Ryokan in good condition. Free coffee and tea in the lounge room, and vending machine that sells beers and cup noodles, very convenient if you don't want to go outside. Just across the street from one of the two restaurants in town.
While the self check in process is perfectly set up, real interaction with staff would be great as part of the Ryokan experience

Lovely private onsen. Welcoming feel and easy check-in. Friendly hosts but we didn’t see much of them.
Cottage/annex across the road from the onsen was good for a family group like us. Upstairs tatami room with futons and plenty of space. If you have a car, it’s an excellent base to visit waterfalls, walks (Kamikochi), Shinhotaka ropeway, etc. Annex had lovely views, a nice bright entry room for shoes and coats, an outdoor covered area (carport) with picnic tables and a charcoal bbq (no charcoal provided) and car parking.
Village had a few shops and an historic Hida hut that you can visit and walk through. Locals were friendly and helpful.
Cottage/annex had a small kitchen, but did not have any cutlery, crockery, cookware (one small saucepan and a single stove) and so cooking and eating for a family of 5 was difficult. Lounge space is filled with a table tennis table which was fun but impractical for a family group as it takes up the whole room and there is no other place to sit or eat. There were only small, rickety stools to sit on, which were not comfortable for any length of time and not suitable for our (mobile and healthy) 80 year old grandmother.

Staff are very nice. Feels like home

Good place with an onsen, self check in a few minutes away from the bus station. The onsen baths are all private, although their water is more iron-like and less sulphuric than I experienced in a different Ryokan in Hirayu.
It's understandable that the process is now automatic, so you never speak to anyone. It's also a bit sad, however

Would highly recommend this ryokan if you're looking for a traditional experience. It is family run, and really feels like you're staying in a family home while completely having your own space and privacy. The family is lovely (especially the grandma!) and the facilities are clean and comfortable. The location is fantastic and we also loved the outdoor onsen - it was snowing the night we used it which was magical to experience. This place exceeded our expectations and we loved it!

I loved the private outdoor bath and appreciated the bread provided during breakfast. The general store around 2mins away sells v delicious onsen eggs, do try it out! :)

Very traditional and quaint

I liked the convenient location. I also enjoyed the contactless reception which was simple and easy to understand. I enjoyed the private onsen greatly.

Traditional Ryokan but automatic checkin.
Well thought through and uncomplicated.

They give bread for breakfast. And there are free message chair for use, really helping especially after long walk and hiking. The location is very near to Hirayu onsen bus terminal, 2-3 mins walk, so convenient to reach Kamikochi by bus.

A very nice traditional ryokan, with very good amenities. I liked especially a couple of indoor public baths and 1 outdoor. All of them can be used as 'private', e.g. for families/friends, a very nice option. The one outside - on the 2nd floor - which I used twice, in the evening and early morning - has a view on the town and on the neighboring mountains. The rooms are clean, have A/C, TV, fully ok. The whole experience was very good, also the 'self check-in' procedure, no issue here. I actually met the owners, they don't speak English, but as everything was absolutely fine - no problems here.
There is no food option in the ryokan, but tea/coffee is available in the common room. There is a shop just in front of the ryokan, open 8AM-8PM, so one can buy some stuff there. Several restaurants are nearby, I used twice the izakaya/restaurant ~8-10 minutes away, close to the open-air onsen (the small one, near the old 'community' house, go there, an interesting story, serves a museum, go also to the 2nd floor by the ladder). The large onsen Hirayu no mori is also very-very good.
Overall, would definitely come back there, highly recommended.
I think everything was fine, especially considering the price/quality ratio.

This guesthouse was wonderful! The location was perfect and right next to the bus terminal. the private open air bath was delightful and the interior of the guesthouse was very nice and cozy.
The self check in was a bit odd, but nothing bad.

excellent location and the outdoor onsen was amazing. very good value for money for those visiting Kamikochi on a budget. my stay was clean and comfortable.
