Black Duck Haven is a slice of heaven in Downeast Maine. You will be greeted each day with peaceful views of the everchanging tidal bay and the gentle chatter of woodland creatures and seabirds. The home itself is beautifully appointed and we enjoyed the fine craftmanship of this log cabin. We had plenty of room for my husband, adult daughter, me, and our small dog. Thank you for welcoming small pets; they always enhance our vacation.

We stayed here for one week with four people total. The view of the water off the back porch would be hard to beat. We had built in entertainment with the squirrel and the chipmunk battling it out for the food left in the feeder. There is plenty of room here to spread out. Plus having two and a half baths is also hard to find.
The only negative I would mention is that it needs a good deep cleaning. As an example, there was evidence of dog hair on furniture and floors.
One suggestion - some chairs and a fire pit would be a nice touch in the evenings.

The pros: Sue was very responsive and courteous. The porch is great & the view is beautiful. We were able to bring both of our dogs. The cons: lack of cleanliness & horrendous mildew smell. There are lots of excellent ratings, so maybe it was a fluke. But the kitchen was left in gross condition with crumbs & dirt in the cabinets, on the floor, in the fridge & freezer. Almost all of the towels smelled like mildew. When we got there, I couldn't figure out where the king size bed was. Discovered it was in the basement, where the smell of musty mildew was overwhelming. It was so pungent that the space down there was unusable. A window had been propped open, presumably to air it out. Clearly someone knew it smelled like that. I was going to try to just enjoy our vacation, but when I thought about how much money we spent on the rental, I decided to reach out to Sue. She indicated that she passed the information along to the property manager & that I should reach out to him with my concerns. After taking the time to send pictures & details of the issues to her, I didn't think it was up to me to then contact him. He had my number. I didn't hear from him until the day before check out & all I got was "apologies" & a request to schedule a check-out walk-through (a total inconvenience btw), during which time he stated that "even with the dehumidifier down there" it doesn't help. They know it's a problem. Some sort of offer, ANYTHING, to make it right would've been better than nothing.

It was so relaxing and peaceful! Everyone had a great time and everything was exactly as described. We had a small issue with some dishes not as clean as we would have liked but didn't take away from our vacation

It was a great place for our family from all over to meet and be together. It was quiet and the house accommodated us all (including our dogs). It was foggy for several days while we were there, but when it broke the view was amazing! We saw a bald eagle and sea gull fight for food, it was quite entertaining! We had a big lobster feed and there was everything that we needed to cook and eat. I would bring extra toilet paper and paper towel for a big crowd. There was a musty smell in basement bedroom, but it has been a very rainy summer. I wished there was a hammock or chairs in the screened in porch area(it was a nice private sitting area)The beds were firm and we slept very well while there. Watch for deer in the road. You wont be starved of wildlife here.

The location of the cabin was exactly what we were looking for, remote, by the water with views. We also had the added bonus of watching birds and squirrels with the bird feeder (amazingly relaxing). The amenities were perfect and we were surprised by how large the cabin actually was.
Rental process all the way through check out was easy. Highly recommend this cabin and would stay again.

Loved the rustic cabin feel with enough 'modern' amenities to keep everyone happy and relaxed!
Great location for us, we are very familiar with Washington County and this spot was perfect between Bar Harbor to the south and Lubec to the north, with nearby groceries and a couple of restaurants in the vicinity, tons of great coves for exploring filled with lobster boats.
Would stay again!

We really enjoyed our stay in Millbridge. The property was just right for our group and the tidal cove it sits on was just lovely! Plenty of room for a restful and relaxing week.

Quiet neighborhood. Lovely views. Deck really makes this place relaxing and enjoyable. Thankful dogs are allowed, property very dog friendly. Conveniently located on Maine coast far enough away from Ellsworth/Acadia craziness but not too far from basic amenities.

Great location.
Beautiful view of the bay. Plenty of room for our family.
Property needs some updating and general deep cleaning.
Beds could have been more comfortable with new mattresses and updated bedding. Shower curtains and liners need replacing. Kitchen could use some under counter plug in lighting. The overall decor was perfect for a Maine cabin vacation.

What a wonderful 2wks in Millbridge
Not only were the booking agent Sue and the property manager Mike absolutely fantastic but the owner- without me asking- offered to let me stay a few days after the blizzard so I could safely drive home!
It was truly a wonderful experience and absolutely gorgeous for a snow lover like me!!
Next year I hope to stay 3 weeks!!

Lovely Place for Some Serious Down East Rustification
The views from this house are so much more stunning than the photos suggest. My wife and I have stayed in many coastal Maine rentals, and this was one of the most magical -- mainly because of how it's situated on the constantly tidal seascape. Because of a broken wrist, I did no hiking, which meant I spent pretty much the whole week on the porch -- which was a fairly spectacular way to convalesce! The proximity to the excellent grocery store in Milbridge, as well as Chipman's Wharf, and so many other nearby places to explore, make this a perfect place to spend a coast Maine vacation. Also, the moose head. Honestly, this place had me at the first sight of the moose head. Not to mention the elk head. Oops -- just did.

Black Duck Haven heaven
What a beautiful location, enjoyed sunrises and sunsets on the porch. Great family vacation.

Just as advertised, this is a wonderful, rustic cabin. We needed a place to stay while visiting family in Maine. What a great place to relax after all the activities and sightseeing we had planned. The view from the back porch was fantastic. The best part of my day was having my morning coffee, watching the tide rise and fall from the porch! If you are looking for luxury, this may not be the place for you, bit if you are looking for a cozy rustic Maine experience with wonderful views, this place delivers. The only negative I have to say is that we were traveling with an active one year old and it was difficult to keep her off the steps. Thank you for a wonderful stay, and I will miss the moose!

Ever-changing Ocean Views in Milbridge
Duck Haven is a nice 3 level, winterized cottage with an entertaining, ever-changing view. It has lots of parking, with the house directly accessible from the front & rear via stairs that ascend to covered decks. Inside, the open-concept common/living space joins the food prep and living/TV areas & features a water view.
The kitchen has a good selection of cooking tools. Meals can be eaten at the kitchen table or another table in a separate dining area that easily accommodates 6 diners. The main floor features two bedrooms, with a double bed in one, a twin in the other, and a full bathroom with tub & shower. The upstairs loft features a queen with an attached half-bath. The ground level floor also features a queen with an attached ¾ -bath and access to the yard. All in all, it easily gave us all room & privacy, if desired.
We loved the water-facing, covered deck, with Adirondack chairs, overlooking an ever-changing view of the saltwater filled inlet at high tide that transformed into sandy, dried-out clam-flats at low tide. High tide provided direct access to swimming and kayak launching from shore. At low tide, it’s great fun to enjoy coffee or cocktails while watching a cadre of clammers who arrive at low tide to rake-in their day’s haul.
Milbridge also has a marvelous local fish market—Chipman’s Wharf—where, daily, we bought really fresh lobsters, clams, oysters and catch-of-the-day, fish.
Trash & recycling was taken care of by our caretaker who was very responsive.

Location is beautiful and close by quaint little town of Milbridge. It is a nice size too !
Kitchen is nice and updated. All the cooking supplies we needed were there! House is roomy too so our three college age sons could spread out and have their own space. The view is spectacular. Loved waking up every morning to coffee on the porch. The carpet and a few other things could be updated as they are pretty dirty and run down but other then that the place was perfect for us .

Private and quiet getaway!
If you're looking for a relaxing, private, quiet getaway on the water, this is it! The tide changes was amazing to watch the bay fill up and the tide go out. The "clammers" were out there almost daily and looked like the found a lot. The cabin was roomy, bright and clean. It's always nice to have laundry facilities available, too! Our only complaint was that the beds were a little too hard for us. Oh, and the mosquitos were a pain, but that is just nature! We had a great time there and if we go back, this cabin will definitely be considered!

Great base camp!
The cabin was as described. It was very clean, but could use a good overall dusting. It had all the thinks you need to do whatever you dream of. It’s a great log cabin and gives you that feel... especially with moose, caribou and deer. A few updates... tv’s, sweeper, furniture would make it more “comfortable”. The view on deck is so nice for drinking coffee in the morning. It is so nice to watch the water come in and out. The location made it possible for us to see TONS of Maine... Lubec, moose tour, Bar Harbor, whale watching, Wild Blueverry Land, Bangor, lots of coastal towns, Bucksport, Fort Knox... We thoroughly enjoyed our family time here!

July Family Stay
The house was as advertised. It was clean, with adequate bedrooms. The porch facing the water had a very nice view, however , if you are not familiar with Maine tides, please note, the water essentially empties the bay at low tide. The moose head in the living room was quite a statement, it gives the place it's own type of character. It was a nice peaceful stay and we would certainly consider a return visit.
