Excellent breakfast buffet. Comfortable facilities. Helpful tourist info supplied by landlady. Central location.
Narrow staircase because I am at present struggling with mobility. However, in fairness the landlady told me in advance that the room would be on the 1st floor and no lift. When we arrived, she very kindly carried the heavy case upstairs.

The breakfast was good. The coffee was good. The room and view from the window was great. The location in the Mosel River is wonderful.
The owner of the guesthouse seemed to be quite serious...not a happy person....either that or she did not like Americans. When it came time to pay, she had a problem with my USA credit card as she would not take a credit card that did not have a PIN number authorization (which is not a standard on credit cards in the USA) (In the USA this means the service provider capture a signature) On my 9 day visit in Germany this was not a problem any where else. The reason she could not accept the card is she did not have a way to capture a signature...so we tried 1 other credit card and then an ATM card....still no go. At this point she requested cash. I obliged with two 50 Euro notes on a 89 Euro invoice. At this point everything went downhill again as she proceeded to put the Euro notes into a counterfeit detection machine....and it turns out the machine thought they were counterfeit. Since the cash was withdrawn from a bank ATM machine in Frankfurt, I seriously doubt this could be true. After some frustration, she gave me 11 Euros change and shooed me out the door as if I was some kind of criminal attempting to steal from her. This made me feel quite uncomfortable so I walked to the bank and withdrew another 100 Euro. When I returned she refused to engage with me by locking the door and not letting me into the office. (By the way, I was quite calm and never raised a voice) All I wanted to do was make her feel comfortable with the transaction. She finally opened the window and told me to go away. At this point I stuffed another 100 Euros through the window and walked away (I don't care about the money actually! I just wanted to end everything on a pleasant note) My message to others is be prepared to pay in alternative ways and make sure your Euro notes are clean and crisp. I found my guest experience quite good until the last 15 minutes. But to say the least, all I can say is I tried! And perhaps that it was kind of a unpleasant experience at the end!

We had cycled from south of Trier on our first day of 6 in the saddle, Guest House Mack is in an excellent location and a we received a friendly welcome. There was a place to store out bikes in the cellar which was great, although not the easiest to negotiate the slope. The room was well appointed, bathroom was great and the breakfast offering more than set us up for the day. There was an honesty bar downstairs, though we didn't use this.
As is common in German hotels, there was no Coffee making facilities in the room, which has always been a personal gripe of mine. Also, there is no provision for evening meal so it's important to go out and reserve a table in a local restaurant (important for us as we travelled by bike)

Very nice staff, in the center of town, comfortable room. Good place to stay on a bike trip, you can leave your bike in the basement overnight.

creaking floors and stairs, traffic noise with open windows
