About this apartment rental
Foinavon – Your perfect holiday home, whatever the season, whatever the weather. You'll have plenty of space to yourselves
You've travelled south, straight towards the sun. You've crossed the water, you've arrived on a beautiful holiday Island, without all the hassles of going abroad (or having your luggage weighed!).
See yourself - you've just opened the door to your holiday home. You parked in your own space on the drive and walked down an easy-going flight of steps to peace and privacy, you are now out of sight of everyone. You're in your own little world, your haven, a full storey height below the busy road you arrived on, yet shielded from noise.
You wanted a private, clean, bright, thoughtfully designed, well equipped base for your holiday, conveniently positioned for the beaches or exploring the Island. That's what we've tried to create for you here.
In from the secure porch, now look around – either side of you are the two light, airy bedrooms, each room is of equal size, one with a King-size bed, the other, a pair of full-size 3' singles, complemented by all matching drawer and bedside units, also double wardrobes, more than adequate mirrors and a dressing top. The bedsides have a choice of both soft lights and reading lamps. Vertical blinds as well as thick curtains for a good night's sleep. Each room has USB sockets by the bedhead, too.
Through the hall, with mirrors bouncing the daylight around, left to the cosy sitting room, with it's patio door revealing THAT VIEW. East facing, for the morning sun, not a building in sight, looking across the lowlands of the RSPB reserve to Culver Down beyond. Step through the patio door onto the balcony, there's only the side neighbours visible. This is a perfect spot for breakfast, perhaps?
Back into the room, you see the two comfy settees, facing both the view and the swivel wall mount smart Sony TV. Also a good DAB radio (with bluetooth to play your own music through), and a USB wall socket for phone charging (unlimited, fast free WiFi from our fibre connection working right throughout the place).
On the shelves you'll find a good range of leaflets and flyers about the many varied attractions of the Island, some maps and even some local history books, if you're interested. We've also written up several driven outings, (starting from Foinavon) to help you find the best way to our choice of the best spots on the Island.
Also off the hall is the white, fully tiled bathroom – with the view – but it's private, none of your windows can even be seen from less than 200m. The shower has a big, fixed rainfall head as well as a flexible handset, over a P shape bath, with glass screen. Immediate, mains-pressure, hot water in this house, too, so there's no waiting for taps to run hot.
Next you find the fully equipped kitchen, with full sized fridge-freezer, also, a proper oven and hob for those who want to cook, Bosch dishwasher for everyone and (simple to use) a microwave, naturally. All the cooking and eating utensils you could need, a Bistro table – breakfast or dinner for two, or children's activities, maybe. The view as well, of course.
From the kitchen, you pass through a utility room with Bosch washing machine, drying lines available outside – we'll tumbledry free for you, if you ask.
Now, down some steps, and pause for a WOW. This is one huge conservatory, and it has casual seating for your whole party as well as a proper dining table and four chairs. Oh Yes - and a big, fully mosaic-tiled, in-ground spa at the far end, just ready, hot and waiting for you to use it! This is actually an eight seater design, so the four of you will have plenty of space.
The whole garden is exclusively yours, too. So step out onto the pergola terrace, then the lawn. That little summerhouse? That's for you, too. A pair of director chairs and somewhere to put your coffee. A perfect little spot.
Newly built is the 'Lookout deck' at the edge of the lower lawn, giving a wider view of the river and the unspoilt land beyond. Sit here a while with a drink.
There really is something for everyone at Foinavon, whatever the season.
From totally private sunbathing on the top lawn, to full central heating.
From birdwatching to stargazing – totally dark skies to the east, at the back.
From a short, easy drive to the beach, to Christmas dinner in the conservatory.
There will always be something to suit you.
Included in your rental is :- all bed linen (changed weekly for longer stays), duvets (choice of weight), towels – personal and bath size. We also leave you mattress toppers, just in case the beds don't suit you (not every bed can suit everybody). All cutlery, crockery and cooking requirements, electric, hot water, central heating etc.
We just don't believe in making extra charges.
All you need to bring with you is your personal requisites, clothes and beach towels.
Foinavon is all yours. Nobody will enter, nor will they come round to the back garden. It's all totally private.
Foinavon was built in the 1960's as a detached bungalow, where we raised our family in comfort. More recently we added an upper storey as a completely separate living unit, which is where we now live. Foinavon itself was replumbed, rewired and modernised throughout, with all new kitchen and bathroom, to bring it up to date to suit it's new purpose and give you the best experience we can offer.

The property and the Hosts were excellent. The accomodation was spacious and very private ,everything we needed was provided. The view from the balcony and conservatory was lovely and the spa pool was an added bonus and excellent way to relax. There was a lot of useful information about the island on hand and the Hosts were happy to help if we had any questions. Would highly recommend booking Fionavon to anyone looking to visit IOW.

We were so impressed with the property, so clean and comfortable and a real little haven of tranquility. The garden and conservatory was like divine perfect for yoga and games, especially on wet days, captured what sun there was perfectly. Similarly the balcony was another suncatch with a breathtaking view. Rob and Sue were respectful and accomodating hosts, nothing was too much trouble, even offering to tumble dry our wet things before we departed. We loved every moment and will definitely return again at some point in the future. Suzy, Dave, Josh and Ayla

Excellent location for visiting most of the highlights of the Island. It was an amazingly well equipped apartment with almost anything you could possibly need. Was very impressed when the oven had a fault on the Sunday and it was replaced with a new one before we returned the following afternoon. Overall would thoroughly recommend..

A lovely clean property, well equipped, great location with the added bonus of a spa. Friendly and helpful hosts we would definitely book again, a great base to explore the Isle of Wight.

We were made very welcome by Rob & Sue, everything was absolutely perfect. Such a lovely place, the views are spectacular, the hot tub is a great bonus, would be even better in long summer evenings. It’s definitely on our list to visit again in the future.

From the onset we had a very friendly welcome from Sue and Rob. They showed us around the property showing us all the facilities in full, we settled in very quickly. This is a very private residence with enjoyable views to the east for the sunrise, with plenty of places to comfortably sit to enjoy the view. Sue and Rob were nearby should we have needed them , but did not interfere or bother us during our stay. Because we found everything we needed we didn’t need to contact them. When we came to leave they gave us a good send off. It is not boutique accommodation but is a very comfortable place to stay having all things you would have back at home. Beds were clean and comfortable with adequate storage space, and the large jacuzzi sunroom was an added bonus which we enjoyed. We would happily stay here again as it’s ideally located for the local attractions.

Very clean. Really well equipped, even books and games, plus a minocular to bird watch! Stunning view. Comfy beds. Close to bus stops and short walk to station. Garden with lots of seating. Hot tub a bonus. Friendly helpful hosts. Quite a lot of stairs, so maybe not so good for older people or small children. Overall a great place for a holiday.

Beware the Landlady’s wrath if you fail to obey the house rules. Our “crime”? Allowing a visiting dog across the threshold. My husband had called into the property on his morning run to assist our son to pack up and leave at the end of their stay. Unfortunately, he was running with the dog. Within minutes of his arrival there was loud banging on the door. The Landlady was extremely angry that we had transgressed the “no pets” rule. Husband and dog left immediately with profuse apologies which were not accepted. The landlady’s vituperations continued with much haranguing of our son causing considerable upset as he tried to complete their packing. This spoiled an otherwise lovely week of family celebration.
The property is situated between a busy main road and the railway line. There’s a parking space which requires precision reversing in from the main road while a queue of traffic builds up behind. The 2 bedrooms are somewhat affected by traffic noise, although from the back of the property there are splendid views of the river Yar and Gander and Bembridge Downs. There is a hot tub although this is better described as a “tepid” tub. A note on the wall says that the water temperature can be increased upon request. However, it is unclear what such a request might provoke given the Landlady’s short fuse.
Self-catering holidays such as those offered by Vrbo are no longer a cheap option especially in high season on the Isle of Wight. There is much competition from other accommodation providers. Our experience at 1778496 means that in future we consider alternatives options. We recommend that others do the same.

Great place to stay for a week on IoW
We stayed for a conference at Brading Roman Villa, and so the property was very conveniently located. Really well equipped (everything you need in the kitchen) clean and comfortable. Lovely conservatory with not tied and garden overlooking the hills.

Very well set up with anything needed for self catering. The jacuzzi is great fun and very romantic for a couple. Very very private. Location is not bad for touring the island. Parking is a pain and and I am not sure how it would work for a family with younger children .

Relaxing family break
'Foinavon' was a wonderful base for our week in the Isle of Wight with everything we could possibly need, plus accommodating and welcoming hosts in Rob & Sue. The spa and balcony, quite literally, made our daughter's break complete!

My husband, our 19 year-old daughter and I stayed at this property for a week in July 2021. It was easy to get to from the port and we received a wonderful welcome from Rob and Sue, who showed us round the property.
The property has absolutely everything you could need. We wanted for nothing. Rob and Sue had thought of everything.
We went out everyday to explore the island, as there is so much to see and do, but when we were back at the house we relaxed, played games, went in the spa... The view from the conservatory is wonderful.
I would recommend this property wholeheartedly.

We loved staying here. Everything was just about perfect from the hot tub to the views. Just sitting out on the balcony having breakfast was a great way to start our day. There is everything you need, it was a home from home. The parking is very tight and the property is situated on a busy main road with poor visibility so I'd advise someone to guide you in and out at peak times. Also we wanted to spend most of our nights in after full days of activities the TV channels are pretty basic so I'd recommend you take dvds you can sign into netflex too. Overall loved staying here the owners are on hand if you need them but are totally unobtrusive. Brading is central to Sandown and Ryde. There's a great bus service. Totally recommend here for a holiday.

The owners are very friendly and happy to pass on their local knowledge. The views out the back are really quite stunning and the hot tub is a welcome treat after a day exploring the island. Excellent stay couldn't have asked for more
We had the most lovely stay enhanced by the good weather. The accommodation was great, everything you could need and a lovely homely feel. We loved the outlook from the garden and loved hearing the train go past, brought back memories to childhood. Location was great, easy to reach all attractions by car with the added bonus of the train taking you to Shanklin and Ryde and all stops between. Would definitely recommend this property to our friends and family and will definitely be back. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Fantastic week away.
The property was great, exactly as described and well equipped. The owners responded quickly to questions before we went, and were more than welcoming when we arrived. They had good covid procedures in place, and the accommodation had been well cleaned before we arrived.
And what can we say about the spa? Amazing way to relax the muscles after a day walking the local hills.
We've already recommended this place to several work colleagues, and will definitely look to book again.

def a home from home
I can't fault the hosts or the property. Greeted by Sue and Rob on arrival, they were so welcoming and made themselves instantly approachable incase we needed anything for the week we stayed. Rob showed us around, and it was lovely to see how much Foinavon and the Isle means to him. The bedrooms are a great size, not pokey in the slightest. The living room was cozy and the kitchen sufficient. The Bathroom was spotless and a really good size. The little balcony off the lounge looking over Culverdown is really lovely, and as the house is East facing, it catches the morning of sunshine perfectly. The downstairs conservatory room is very spacious, and the spa jacuzzi is very clean, well built and well thought out. It was wonderful after a day exploring the island to return and jump in for a bit of a wind down. We even set up a laptop and streamed a movie whilst we were in the tub on a few nights. The Dart board was a very welcome addition, and Rob even replaced some missing darts, which was above and beyond, we were fine working with the 5 darts available, but he still went out and got a replacement as soon as he could. The garden is lovely too, and the views are spectacular. There was an abundance of seating throughout the property, so you could def find one that suited you. Our 13 year old really enjoyed it too, and we played Hide and Seek, a tradition for us to do where ever we stay... Foinavon especially was great for this with so many potential spots. All in all, I have only good things to say, it was a joy to stay here and we loved all the nods to Rob and Sue's own personality on the place. It felt very homely! Thank you both for a lovely holiday.

Excellent, bright and spacious apartment with character. Lovely spa pool in conservatory with a lot of space to relax. All appliances clean and in good condition - everything you need for a self-catering holiday. Very close to bus stops and railway station with frequent services to provide a break from driving. Also close to pubs (walking distance) two of which have good restaurants. Owners very friendly and helpful - very highly recommended.
