The cottage is on Clam Lake, between Torch Lake and Lake Bellaire on the Elk River Chain of Lakes, with quick and easy access by boat or by land to Torch Lake and the rest of the Chain of Lakes. Dockside bar and restaurant and the adjacent public beach on Torch Lake are a ten minute walk or boat ride from the cottage, and Torch Lake sandbar is also a short boat ride away. The golf courses and ski slopes at Shanty Creek and Schuss Mountain, and also the restaurants and shops of Bellaire and Alden are all within 15 minutes’ drive. Day trips to all of the beautiful northern Michigan towns are all around you, including Traverse City (30 miles), Charlevoix (30 miles), Petoskey (45 miles), Sleeping Bear Dunes (55 miles) and more.
The long slender shape of Clam Lake, with its calm and warmer water, is ideal for boating and water sports. Bring your boat or rent one from one of four rental locations on Clam Lake and tie up to our permanent dock. The public boat ramp on Clam Lake is five minutes (1.5 miles) away. Enjoy fun and safe swimming and fishing right off the dock, which is situated at the start of the Clam River no-wake zone. Grass River is less than ten minutes by boat for superb fishing, and nature lovers will really enjoy the walking trails of the Grass River Natural Area, accessible by boat or car. An ideal half-day for a paddler is launching from Bellaire and paddling 8.5 miles down Intermediate River, across Lake Bellaire, through Grass River, and across Clam Lake back to the cottage. Or continue on the last half mile to Torch Lake and Dockside bar and restaurant for drinks and a great meal. The small public beach adjacent to Dockside is a great place to pull your kayak or canoe out if you continue past the cottage. Mountain biking, hiking, running, cross-country skiing, and sledding are 15 minutes away at Glacial Hills, or explore northern Michigan wine tasting - Torch Lake Cellars winery is 5 minutes from the cottage.
One of the best parts of the cottage is the deck above the boat house over-looking Clam Lake. The deck is perfect for outdoor meals, watching the boats, kayaks, and swans float by, and taking in sunsets over the marina and Clam River bridge. The cottage has a large living room and kitchen and two full bathrooms to accommodate groups. It sleeps 8 comfortably with 2 queen beds, 1 full bed, and 3 twins. The main bedroom has 1 queen bed, sleeping 2. The second bedroom that faces the lake has 1 queen bed, 1 full bed, and 2 twin loft beds, sleeping 5 or 6. There is also a bed with a twin mattress in the living room for additional sleeping. If the size of your group is slightly larger than 8, please contact us to discuss options. The large living room is ideal for entertaining and family gatherings around the fireplace. With cathedral ceilings, a 65” wifi-enabled HDTV to watch your favorite sports and movies, and plenty of comfortable seating on two couches, two arm chairs, and several director’s chairs that can be moved around as needed, your family and friends will have plenty of space to enjoy a memorable and relaxing vacation. We gave the living room and second bedroom fresh paint and updated the furniture in the living room and second bedroom to give the cottage a fresh new look. The garage and driveway can hold up to 4 vehicles or 3 vehicles plus your boat trailer.
Outdoor (ONLY) Security: There are 2 outdoor ONLY security cameras. Front exterior of the home. Back exterior of the home.
We have worked hard to create a home that is welcoming and comfortable for our guests, and we hope you’ll love the memories you make staying at the Cottage on Clam Lake as much as we do.

The home was perfect for five adults! Plenty of kitchen and great room space. Loved the full bathroom in the garage too. The view inside of the house was great with the large windows. Loved the outdoor seating, firepit, paddleboard, and kayak! I don't want to rave too much or this lovely home may not be available for us next year :)

Could not have asked for a better 3 day stay. Spacious home, very clean with no detail missed. Beds were comfy. Lake is just steps away. Very quiet lake with a float up reaturamt just minites away. We will be back

We were happy with the attention to detail that the host had at this property. It seems they had something available for everyone of all ages. We visited for a ski weekend and would love to return during summer months to take advantage of the lake life. The host was very responsive to any questions and accommodating to our group.

Beautiful home. We had a great time. Only problem we wished there were more than one towel per person. We had to do laundry everyday because we needed towels for showers.

Just spent a week at a comfortable cottage on Clam Lake near Alden, Michigan. The deck, alone, overlooking the water, was enough to bring us back again, but the entire experience was exceptional. The cottage was clean and well equipped. The location was perfect, close to some of our favorite places, the Dockside on Torch Lake and the restaurants in Bellaire. We enjoyed every moment of our stay.

Such a great little cottage! Perfect location with dock for boat. Kayaks/SUP included as well. On Clam, close to Torch, just the best! Beds were comfortable and the home was clean. Definitely booking again!

House was exactly as advertised. Everything was clean and the location was amazing. We enjoyed fishing from the dock caught a couple nice size small mouth bass. And to end the night my husband caught himself a nice size northern pike. Loved being so close to Torch Lake. We rented a jet ski from dockside amazing people as well. We just loved the calm relaxing lake view of Clam Lake. Sitting outside on the deck watching the boats and the sunset. This was by far the most relaxing vacation ever. Hope to be back next year. Thank you!

We had such an amazing time staying on clam lake with our two toddlers. Everything exceeded our expectations, from the wonderful property to a pontoon outing on Torch Lake. Absolutely will return

Three nights was simply not enough! The cottage was amazing. Cute and cozy! Private dock was great. LOCATION was perfect…super easy access to Torch Lake, but the calm waters of Clam Lake was ideal. It was also warmer at the house and on Clam Lake. Temps seemed to drop about 5-10 degrees when we went out on the big lake. The bunk room with the loft beds was a huge hit for our little girl and our niece! The views of the lake from the home were picture perfect and the deck on top of the boat house was a great spot for coffee with the sunrise and watching sunsets. We got to meet the owners of the properties on both sides during our visit. Such friendly/helpful neighbors. Heidi even helped us repair something on our boat motor so we wouldn’t miss out on the full lake experience!
Natalie was always super responsive! And we loved the “artwork” that all the previous guests have done on the walls in the garage with sidewalk chalk. So fun and creative! We will definitely be saving this property on our list for return visits!

My father lives on clam lake, and I had to come visit due to a health crisis. I wanted a place that I could entertain him, friends and family while I was in town. We cooked, played cards, had miraculous Michigan weather! This gave my father the opportunity to get out of the house and have fun with his sons. Thank you I would recommend this property to my friends and family.

The house was perfect for our family of 5. The location was ideal for us: We stayed here to ski at nearby Schuss Mtn/Shanty Creek. We also went to the water park at Boyne (40 min drive). And of course we love going to Short’s whenever we are in this area. The house itself was just as pictured in the VRBO listing. Plenty of room for our family to hang out, and many nice touches throughout the home. I would think that it would also be a great spot for summer vacations, since it is right on what looks like a nice lake and very close to Torch Lake as well. They host was excellent with communication. I had a few quick questions, and the responses came very quickly. We would definitely stay here again.

We experienced lovely weather for November in Michigan. The cottage is located on a quiet inland lake and has a wonderful view. We relaxed and enjoyed watching the swans and ducks swim by each day. Nicely located for exploring the other nearby lakes and northern Michigan towns as well. Our host Natalie was great to communicate with making sure our questions were answered.

Plan on renting a pontoon boat for a day of water fun and sights! A GREAT rental! The owners are extremely easy to work with (thank you!) and very, very quick to respond!

Perfect lake stay
Wonderful place, clean, cozy and comfortable for my husband and I and our two teenagers. The location is perfect. Quiet safe neighborhood, friendly neighbors. I loved being only a 5 minute
boat ride to Torch Lake but it was also nice not being right on Torch Lake due to the wind and rough conditions a couple of days were there. It was too rough for Torch Lake so we got to enjoy our boat and jet ski on Clam Lake those days instead. The private dock was so convenient for our ski boat and jet ski. The house provided everything we needed. The bed and pillows in the master bedroom were very firm but it didn’t stop me from sleeping okay. The outside and yard could use just a little TLC as far as landscaping and mulch but I love doing that type of work so maybe others wouldn’t care or notice like I do :) Easy check in and out, quick communication back from the owners and they were very helpful and friendly! Don’t hesitate to book this dream lake trip. Torch Lake sandbar is the coolest and the water really does look like the Caribbean!

Great setting
This house had amazing views of Clam Lake and great access to both Clam and Torch lakes. Felt like the perfect lake cottage with adorable decorative touches. The mattress in the master bedroom was exceptionally firm, but others might like that (just not for me!). Our kiddo loved the bunk beds.

Weekend Winter Getaway
Natalie was so helpful with check-in and she left no detail unturned and she was an excellent communicator. We felt very welcomed and walked in and began enjoying our vacation immediately with a warm fire on a cold night. We utilized every moment either watching movies around the fire place at night, walking around beautiful Traverse City, tubing and skiing at Schuss, and enjoying cold beverages and great food at Short's Brewery. The house was beautiful and very clean and just perfect for a family weekend winter getaway! Thank you Natalie!

Winter Wonderland
This was the perfect location for our winter wonderland activities! Right across the street from torch lake and about 10 minutes from Bellaire. The property had a lovely wood fireplace, lots of comfy seating options for everyone, and beautiful views of the water with windows everywhere! The owners were very quick to respond to questions and checked in with us constantly to make sure everything was up to par.
