The housekeeper Suranga was great! Always there to help.
The pool and grounds were amazing. A really charming old villa set in acres of forest farm.
Super comfy beds with AC rooms.
Really nice Sri Lankan breakfast and we also paid extra to eat a great Sri Lankan curry lunch.
There was a power cut on the first night which is no fault of the owner. However there was a generator but that was also not working meaning we had no power for the first night until around 11pm.
Shower system could do with an update in the main bedroom. Was difficult to get the water warm and not great pressure.

We visited Heritage villa for several nights and booked it as a whole for our families. Villa itself consists of a main building with 2 bedrooms, common area and kitchen and second building roughly 50 m from the main one - this second building has 2 bedrooms with bathrooms and they are connected. Overall - very special impression. This historical villa belongs to a certain family so you can see some pictures and personal staff in it. However all is managed quite well for hosting guests. Breakfast is included by demand and there is also a possibility to order a dinner - this you can discuss with manager.
Pluses: big and very well maintained territory, big swimming pool, hot water from boilers, hospitality of staff, response to any needs, clean rooms and house overall, home-made dinners (on demand), authentic atmosphere of old colonial style house. Good for renting out as a whole.
Might be considered: no noise isolation between rooms in any of buildings, location in the middle of jungle - so you’ll probably hear birds and animals (might be a bit noisy especially in the morning), location 1,5 km from the beach line - you can always get there with tuktuk however might not be an option for someone. Might be challenging for single-travellers because of all the above.
Overall we were quite happy with the place and definitely can recommend it.

this property is very special, it’s heritage is very interesting and feels so genuine. Set in amazing grounds we saw pineapples, mangos, peppercorns, avocados, jackfruit all growing around the property. also spotted little monkeys and lots of peacocks.

This is truly a lovely place to spend a few days. We initially booked for 2 nights, but added an extra one after only a few hours here. We stayed in the premier suite, and it is good. You have the freedom to wander around the grounds, monkeys crashing around in the trees, peacocks, and various other wildlife, making appearances. The pool is well maintained, and a nice size. Breakfast was very good, as was dinner, we didn't bother eating anywhere else, it was that good. The pineapple curry, green mango curry, were to die for !! All fruit organic and grown there. Final mention has to go to Surenga, a lovely man, who cannot do enough for you. Him and all of his staff make this place what it is. We would not hesitate to visit again.

- The welcome from the staff was exceptional.
- Saranga did everything he did during my stay to make me comfortable.
- Breakfast was great.
- The house is beautiful, pictures can not do it justice and the pool and gardens we're lovely too. Full of natural wildlife and flowers.
- My room (the twin) was the smaller room, but still spacious and comfortable.
- Relaxing place to be
- Floors are dangerous when wet - my room had a leak during a rainstorm and I slipped on the floor twice which was very dangerous. The leak also then started happening above my bed. However it was VERY heavy rain and the leak didn't last long.
-Wifi is weak.
- You may not want to walk back to the property alone at night (area seems perfectly safe but part of the road is completely un lit.
- Two out of 4 nights neighbours we're exceptionally noisy - loud thumping music until 2/3am. Very strange as the area in the day is very very quite.

I broke my leg during my stay in Sri Lanka and I could not move much, so I was looking for a place to stay which had everything I needed. I found it in Thalpe Walawwa. My partner and I loved the charming house, the amazing garden full of life and a gorgeous pool. We spent most of our time in the villa, and we really enjoyed it. We used the pool a lot, walked around the estate and watched the chipmunks, peacocks and many exotic birds. We had most of our meals here, so I was happy to find the food very tasty and very affordable. The highlight of our stay was the staff, who tended to our every need so kindly and respectfully. I felt like a princess here! I would recommend this place to anyone who likes nature, peace and quiet. A big thank you to the owner, the chef and our new friend Suranga! We will never forget you!
