The noise was awful
The new refurb is great, food and dining still excellent . Noise however … see below
I’ll start by saying every other stay has been great at the Moorland. We were in room 114 and I’m afraid the noise was awful. The plumbing means you can hear taps from the surrounding rooms. The people upstairs walked around constantly and made the ceiling creek, (btw I am not a light sleeper) and the people below had a dog that barked constantly until about 10pm and started at 6am. I was there working (as a musician I got back late - so being woken at 6 not great) my other half came as he was recovering from surgery. I creeped in at 1.30am and the dog started up then also. The reception staff just seemed to look sheepish when this was mentioned and apologised but I’d expect at least a gesture for returning guests. I also filled in feedback with the hotel direct and asked to be contact with them and heard nothing. I always give a right of reply before leaving a bad review . At the end of the day you go to a hotel to get a restful sleep. I’m not sure we can stay here again as there is no guarantee of a good nights sleep. Luckily there were two of us to share the driving home 4.5 hours as we were so tired .

Disappointing
Location and condition of property very good. Nice welcome. Nice gardens
Food did not meet expectations. Evening meal was OK but not to the standard expected for the price. Cheese mousse was minute, you could have done much better with this. Lamb was overcooked and lukewarm. Veg iffy. Dessert OK (sticky toffee pud ) bit over priced and v simple. My wife's fillet steak was tough. (Even if it was free ) Why did we need steak knives for lamb and fillet ? We soon found out. Nice selection for Breakfast, but, Bacon had been kept hot too long and overcooked. Sausage was anaemic. Tomato looked as if it had been under warming grill for an hour and was consequently dry and shrivelled. Cheap baked beans. Is black pudding still fashionable ? No we didn't complain at the time as we were with friends and didn't want to embarrass them. Surely service charges are out of date and smack of class distinction and almost insulting to the staff in this day and age. The best tip we can give is by recommendation and returning, sadly we won't be doing either Looking for inspiration ? Try The Rock Inn at Haytor Vale, Ullacombe Farm shop for breakfast or The Two Bridges Hotel
