Found a brilliant secluded house with lovely nature reserve views. Kids enjoyed bunk beds, wildlife spotting, and playing in the garden.

Stunning views , remote and peaceful.

The art deco house is not really stunning but certainly adequate. Would be best for wildlife spotters who like walking. It is down a long bumpy road and quite a long way from beaches and other kid friendly activities. A few simple amenities such as soap and a few kids games would have been nice. Overall quite acceptable and good value.

This was such a brilliant find - secluded but easily accessible by car (we used taxis from Clacton with no problem), well equipped and cosy.
The nature reserve is beautiful and there are lovely walks to explore.
We went with four kids who absolutely loved it. Bedrooms are a good size and the bunk beds were a huge hit with the little ones.

The future wasn't the best dog hair on the couch cover and one couch had a broken arm .

Very happy with our stay at the Old Cafe. Julia, the host, was great. Easy to check in. The house was clean and had all the facilities you need. Amazing location and views from the house too. What more could you ask for?

It's an upside down design. Bedrooms and bathroom on the ground floor, living area and terrace above. This seems a common design in this part of Essex.
You can see for miles from the second floor, with a 360 degree view from inside the living area. Just as well. The wind was pretty strong on the first two evenings despite it being sunny. Day 3 was perfect.
Well equipped kitchen with lots of crockery and utensils. Not much storage space for non fridge or freezer items but we used the second fridge, which was not switched on as a store cupboard.
Big bathroom downstairs. We found the beds in the double and twin rooms fine. The 6 year old found his bunk fine too. The 66 year old who had the other bottom bunk did not and baled out after 1 night. This would be a deal breaker as far as a second visit was concerned.
You need binoculars to get the most out of your stay. Rich birdlife.
The 6 year old loved the big mown garden for playing football. He also loved exploring the area around the house.
All in all, a brilliant experience and, with a new mattress, we'd definitely want to come back.

Lovely house. Off the beaten track down what looks like a private road.
Lovely and warm, great views from the lounge fantastic Veranda.
Kids could play safely outside. Beds comfy. Bathroom very nice. Very hot water.
Couple of little “comments”…. one of the sofas when you sit at the front tips forward, not great with hot coffee in hand. Front door mat deffo seen better days (may sound a ridiculous comment but it’s so big you can’t not stand on it as you enter and my grandson tripped on the loose string where it’s falling apart )
A lovely place and would consider again if staying in the area.

This property is in an idyllic location with sea views and no neighbours too close. It really is very peaceful and remote. With no tv or internet you can concentrate on the views and wildlife. The light is stunning with 180 degrees of coastline. Would highly recommend for a total escape.

The house was very clean, beautiful location and very peaceful. We stayed for one week and were sad to leave. We are a family with a 10 year old girl and found it nice to have family time without the distraction of TV. Would highly recommend this property.

A very peaceful isolated location near to a local reserve
The upper deck to the house provides an open view and a nice area to sit and chill ...with no light pollution the sky on a clear night was full of stars .
My daughter enjoyed watching the birds of prey hovering .
The beach is near by ..although it suggests you could cross the creek or even swim ..in reality it is very muddy.
The path to access the beach passes by some properties that have seen better days and then through the reserve which can flood at high tide .... the beach would be suitable for walking a dog but not for young children or swimming... it took us about 40 minutes to get to the beach...with 3 young grandchildren and I have an old foot injury that means I some times can’t walk fast or far.
The property owner Julia was very friendly and helpful when the fridge freezer had problems .
This property is ideal for some one who enjoys a peaceful holiday away from the crowds and technology... enjoying the local reserve and bird watching or star gazing on a clear black night without the intrusion of a tv or WiFi ...quite a refreshing break
