The house is called “Mid-Century” for a reason. It definitely takes you back to an earlier time. Some modern upgrades would be appreciated. The house is beautifully designed with glassed views in every direction. Those glass windows could use a good cleaning.
The views absolutely save the day and make you forget about anything else. Incredible.

Fantastic place. In a highly windy area, this deck is protected and you are able to enjoy the sun and beautiful coast. Funky 1970s house. Will definitely return again.

You need to know what this home is and why you're going there. If you want new, updated, refurbished -- go somewhere else. If you want a magnificent piece of architectural history, a mind-blowing view (yes, the photos don't do it justice) and to stay in a space that is built by a genius...every space cozy, inspiring, and amazing -- and you understand that here and there, it's a teeny bit rough around the edges...but like, the Taj Mahal is probably rough around the edges. So that's what staying here is like. It's a Mid Century Modern Taj Mahal. Stay there if that means something to you. I was there for 48 hours and never left the house once and I already miss it.

My wife and I spent 4 nights, and although the weather was not too cooperative, we enjoyed the awesome view and the mid-century vibe of the house. Definitely recommended, very clean, roomy. Just be sure to open the patio door if you're cooking to avoid setting off the smoke detector!

The unique architecture, esthetic, ambiance, and setting are phenomenal. We have come here several times a year for a long time. Some deferred maintenance needs addressing like water leaks in garage and deck area but we love it. Can't wait to go back.

What a beautiful place with an amazing view!!! Star gazing in the evenings and relaxing on the patio during morning coffee was a really nice treat. House had everything we needed so we could enjoy home cooked meals. Loved every minute of our stay.

We had two couples and enjoyed this home very much. The house is well equipped with supplies. The view is terrific. The location was perfect for our daily outings. We watched movies each night on the projection screen using our Amazon Prime App.. The waves crashing all day and night gave us soothing sounds to enjoy. The separation of the bedrooms and the comfort of the beds made our stay enjoyable for both couples. Some of the home's lighting is a little dim and quirky, but other than that, it was a most enjoyable stay.

Stunning views and interesting architecture. The MCM design was fun as well as awe-inspiring with all the walls and cabinet doors clear heart redwood. Very neat place to stay!

We LOVED this spot. The views are incredible and style of the house is awesome. It's an older place, so it could use a deep clean, but all the highly trafficked areas (kitchen, bathroom, living room) were well cleaned. If you walk ~10min south to the museum in elk there is a little hiking path where you can watch the sunset. I would absolutely come back here again.

Talk about wow! This gem in Elk, California is a whimsical wonderland that will transport you to a dreamy world of ocean views and mid-century charm. From the moment you step foot in this cozy abode, you'll feel like you're in a fairy tale.
As you gaze out over the cliffs and watch the clouds roll by, you may even catch a glimpse of a family of deer frolicking in the backyard. It's like something straight out of a storybook!
The mid-century style of the house is simply enchanting, with floor-to-ceiling windows that let in plenty of natural light and showcase the stunning cliff side ocean views. And if you're feeling inspired, whip up a magical feast in the kitchen or fire up the smoker and cook dinner outside on the deck.
We will definitely be coming back to this hidden gem!

My girlfriend and I love this place and have stayed several times and we absolutely love it and will stay again. Still, each time we are a little more sad about the lack of attention to small repairs and details that would not only help to preserve this historic home but also make the stay better.
The screens all have holes now letting flys and mice in which cold be easily remedied, the chimney is in dire need of a good sweeping and cleaning so that the smoke goes up the chimney and not into the home, a good cleaning of the brick on the chimney front is in order, and one closet door in the upstairs bedroom is off track and needs a simple fix. Also the carpet in the living room and bedroom are horrendous and do not fit the space at all. With all that being said, the home itself and location simply can't be beat. The kitchen is well stocked and the fridge is fantastic as is the separate ice maker. The bed is super comfy and the linens are as well. Also, we have a few issues during our stay and the response from the local Vacasa team was fantastic. Will stay again but really hope some of those minor fixes are made.

We loved the opportunity to stay in this architect-designed home, but there were so many issues that piled up, that we were not really able to fully enjoy the location with all the distractions. Many issues could be addressed quite easily, some with a little more effort and others have just been built-in and or ignored for so long, we can't imagine they would ever be fixed. The deck, arguably the best feature of the house, was littered with rotting planters that were literally crumbling over on their sides and filled with dead plants. The cushions for the deck furniture were covered in mold and mildew, dog paw prints and a tire track(?). The Green Egg grill that was supposed to be included with our side of the duplex was on the other side and not available to us. This sounds like a small inconvenience, however, we intentionally brought fuel and food expecting to use that, and then could not. It's way too heavy to move and there are steps preventing its easy relocation.
The kitchen was very well stocked with anything you would need to prepare a gourmet meal, however, there is no exhaust fan over the oven, so the smoke alarm verbally threatened us every time we cooked. Oddly, despite the number of large picture windows, there are just three very small operable "portals" to allow fresh air in besides the sliding glass door. This was also troublesome in the bedroom, as we wanted to hear the ocean waves at night, however the only portal faced the highway which is just a few feet away, so in the morning traffic noises come right in.
We couldn't find two matching glasses in the kitchen and there were only about half a dozen in total. There is a fabulous set of Heath dishware. All the appliances had been removed from the countertops and stashed in the pantry (probably the cleaners?), so we had to liberate and rejigger the appliances just to be able to put our food away. The effect of walking into the kitchen with nothing on the countertops made it feel like we were in a house that somebody had moved out of. No welcoming coffee station or toaster like you see in the pictures.
Speaking of pictures, many were missing from the walls (just hooks left) and many had been swapped out from the photos you see online. Same with the cool sculptures you see online and the stereo. These are all gone. The stereo has been replaced with a Sonos setup which would be great, if it weren't so disconnected from itself. We had to download an old app to control it and then we had to manually go upstairs any time we wanted to change the TV volume as it was not controlled by a remote. The Sonos, wifi router and subwoofer were distributed randomly throughout the living room with speaker wires and extension cords hanging out all over the place. The subwoofer was literally sitting in the middle of the living room floor.
We made a great fire in the one working fireplace in the living room the first night, but the next two nights something caused the fireplace to spew smoke into the house (bad wood?), so that was the end of cozy fires at night (PS, we know how to make a fire and grew up with homes that had fires as primary heat sources, so this is not something we can take the blame for, yes, the flue was open!).
It was just the two of us, so we didn't sleep downstairs, but it was musty and the screen door did not operate in its track, so that would've been a problem as well.
As others have pointed out, the tub/shower setups are challenging even for able-bodied people. The tub inserts could be replaced with tiled showers that would function so much better, be a lot less dangerous and have no detrimental effects on the design of the home.
We both loved the house, but we were saddened that it did not live up to the photos or its potential. We get that it should be preserved as an architectural gem, but not to the point that it is not maintained, refreshed, or u...

Title says it all. The architecture is inspiring, the coastline is picturesque, and our stay was lovely. My only feedback is that the lighting is very dim/ambient so the home could use some better/brighter lighting for reading and games.

View spectacular, House a true disappointment!
House is horrific, Need complete renovation, and updating! Carved up spaces, bathrooms inadequate. Downstairs bedroom has no bathroom, showers are a safety hazards! Scared the hell out of me! Try stepping into a tub 4 feet away to access shower tub! No hand rails even. The view from the main room is obstructed by architecture. I believe the design was to mimic a Frank Lloyd Wright home. Poor replica. Lighting is a mystery. If we could locate specific lighting, it would take us a 1/2 hour to disengage before going to bed! So frustrating and unnecessary! Kitchen lighting in stairway. Outside lighting all over, etc, etc. No assistance from a welcome information packet, or visitor notes! The only note was ironically "remove your shoes on entry". The floors were wood, very distressed, and not by design, and carpet is cheap tiles! insulting! Kitchen is a disaster. millions of closets and drawers, without useful design. Alarms launch from simple refrigerator openings, and a fire sprinkler rang out from its perch 7 feet up a wall.......Really? Please explain the pull down screen, and complicated apps to view anything! Couldn't they just installed a T.V.? I took my mother on a "girls" trip and I was embarrassed at the condition, and unfriendly accommodations.
Take caution if you intend to overlook all the deficiencies, to enjoy the spectacular view, only seen from standing at rail, on the deck!

We had a great girls getaway and enjoyed the beautiful views and spacious deck. The bedding was nice quality and comfy. The kitchen was fully stocked with anything you would need to prepare meals. The lighting system is tricky but we got it figured out by day 2. There is not a television or DVD player so couldn’t watch the chick flicks we brought. We did figure out the Amazon stick with Andrea’s help and there is a movie projector and big screen which was fun.

This was our second stay at this property and won’t be our last. The views are stunning and the design of the home itself is truly something to behold. We love all the original details including the built-ins throughout the house. The kitchen is stocked full love everything you could need to whip up everything from a simple meal to a gourmet four course dinner. We did have a problem getting the chrome cast and sonos to work on our first night but after a little troubleshooting we figured it out. We also had some difficulty with the fireplace and the flue not opening. I contacted the Vacasa the night we checked in after we realized the problem and they said they had put in a call to get a tech out. After not hearing anything back from them the next day I contacted them again and spoke to someone different who said that there was no call in for a tech which was frustrating to say the least.
Call was then put into the local maintenance person but no updates were given at any point in time. Eventually after several attempts to open the flue and close it we did get it to work. Just wish there would’ve been more communication from the Vacasa.
Still we loved our time at the house and will be booking again soon

My only complaints are that I booked the property because I saw there was a grill in the photographs but It turns out it was not available for use. And that the lockbox key code did not work. Otherwise the view was incredible, the house was wonderful clean and very stylish. I would absolutely stay again.

Astounding
This place is an architectural wonderland in a stunning location. Pantry was fully stocked so cooking was easy. We enjoyed the Sonos sound system but whisked there were speakers in the kitchen/dining room area so we could enjoy while cooking/eating. Was great while relaxing in the living room though.
Loved the fireplace but had to buy wood for it despite the listing saying firewood provided. There was enough for 2 fires though so it’s not like there wasn’t anything.
The projector was great and easy to use. Lights were fun to get to figure out and by the end of our stay we had them all down.
The beds were so comfortable we looked up the manufacturer so we could see about buying one for home!
Everything was super clean and check in was a breeze.
The only thing we wish had a little more attention paid to it was the screens in the windows upstairs. It seems like they haven’t been opened in years and there was a thick thick coating of dust on them making it almost impossible for air to move through. A simple replacement of them would fix the problem.
Note that the downstairs fireplace in the bedroom is not functional as that was a bit of a surprise to us (you can find it in fine print in the listing of the amenities of the property).
Also, the downstairs bathroom shower smelled very strongly of urine or something but only if you were in it. So using the toilet and sink was fine. We just never used the shower because of the odor.
Overall the property is amazing and we have already booked our next trip back.

Simply amazing
This is a very special place, amazing architecture and design inside, breathtaking views outside! We were able to enjoy a nice meal on the patio at sunset looking at the cove, while a young deer grazed nearby. The kitchen was well equipped to cook our meals, and just stay in. We just wish we could have stayed longer.

Coastal Beauty
This is a spacious, comfortable home on a lovely stretch of Mendocino coast. The large deck is comfortably furnished for hours of lounging under an umbrella enjoying the view and the sounds and smell of the sea. The kitchen is very well stocked, the living room has a great sound system and entertainment center, and the king bed upstairs is heavenly. We were happy to return at the end of a day of hiking in the woods, to bbq outdoors and to watch a movie on the huge projection screen.

Perfect stay!
We had a wonderful time in this architectural mid century jewel furnished and decorated with great taste. The deck is especially enjoyable looking over the cove and well shielded from the wind. The kitchen has everything someone who likes cooking can need. Excellent sound and video system. Splendid area. Lots of hikes and nature marvels to discover all around.
