[the owner] tastefully furnished the carriage house so that guests feel pampered....The rental's prime location puts it within walking distance of the village, fishing pier, St. Simons Island Lighthouse, and beach.'
From our Guestbook: This is our second year to vacation here [and] What another wonderful time we had...Our grandchildren (and even adults) had wonderful times in the pool with all the pool toys. Our son from Atlanta brought 2 kayaks and they were a hit this year! We just love the spacious rooms, walking to the beach and village, seeing the places we saw last year as well as new ones. We especially like all of us having our last meal together on Saturday morning n the village -- then we are off back to work and normal routine of carpooling, etc. We will wait patiently for our return trip next year! (Family from Birmingham and Atlanta).
(We) enjoyed a great family get together. The location was great....What a nice time for cousins, aunts & uncles, & two new third generation little ones. Thanks for allowing us to stay in your home. The spacious living room/dining & games area gave us great accommodations. We fell in live with the Golden Isl. (Family gathered from FL, TN, AL, GA and Nebraska).
From our Guestbook: We loved the house. It was perfect for our family reunion. After a rough beginning (Tropical Storm Faye) -- we were pleasantly surprised with a great weather week. The pool was awesome! The children and adults loved swimming in it morning, noon and night. We found all sorts of wildlife on the beach. Walking into town, shopping and miniature golf were great. We loved the pumpkin bread at Barbara Jeans. The little kids table worked out well as we ate lunch & dinner outside by the pool. Thanks for sharing your home! (Three generations from Boston)
The Ladies from St. Marys, Stuart, Florida had a long weekend of wellness & fun! This home suited our needs and held 10 of us beautifully.
Thank you. (Elementary School chums 60+ years later)

Our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay! We had adults from three different generations and there was something for everyone. Great location, very comfortable, many different seating/ gathering options, and a well-appointed kitchen that had everything we needed for a number of meals around the table. Just lovely!

Great house! Great host! Communication was awesome! Our only complaint was the Georgia beach in general is muddy, due to the marsh, which I didn't know, so that's my fault. The beach that was the closest was short or nonexistent except at LOW tide and that was a bummer. Absolutely loved the pool. Can't think of anything we couldn't find all week like kitchenware, etc. great stay!

Everyone in our extended family raved about this property. Owner Patty was exceedingly helpful and personable from the moment we booked, months in advance of our December stay, and provided an extensive and accurate description of the house and furnishings. Although the weather during our stay was a bit cooler than anticipated (50's and lower 60's), the heated pool was used 3 out of 4 days by all 7 grandchildren--who range from 8 to 15--and afforded much delight. The proximity to the beach, fishing pier, restaurants, and lighthouse, also provided a variety of activities close to "home." We recommend this property without reservation!

Dave and I celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary with our whole family, all 14 of us!! This house had it all
Everyone had a comfortable bed, lots of space, an amazing pool and really everything you could want.
I would go back in a heartbeat!!

There for a family wedding & accommodated all ages very well. Love location & the outdoor spaces! Lots of nooks for alone time if needed! Well stocked fir everything! Only downside was the cramped kitchen… and really in need of all new pillows !

So glad we chose this property for our extended family. Plenty of room for everyone and spread out for lots of privacy if wanted. The pool was clean and the perfect temperature. We enjoyed coffee on the balcony and patio in the mornings and such a short walk to the shops and restaurants and pier. Would definitely stay there again.

The house is in a great location and has a lot of history. There was plenty of beds for everyone. The backyard/pool area is a wonderful area to sit and relax. The kitchen was a little small but we made it work. The main living area could use a larger TV but overall, it was a great stay!!

My family had the most fun staying at Patty's house! She was so easy to communicate with and such a fabulous host! We especially loved the history she provided of the home for her guests. You can't beat the location and everything was comfortable and clean, we would definitely stay again! Thank you!

Staying at this property is truly a unique experience. The place has an historical feel and the secluded pool area enabled us to gather and visit with family from 7am first coffee to the last cocktail of the night. The location is close to the pier and close to the water. We are already planning our next visit to the area and this house!

We truly enjoyed every minute! Everything was provided. The huge home had ample room for our family of 12. So much to do in the immediate area that we could walk most places! Loved the pool, beach access, passing ships and family games around the large dining room table every night! Thank you for sharing your home with us. We would love to come back.

The Strachan Carriage house was far beyond our expectations. The host Patty was so helpful and her home met all our needs and more. There were 11 of us from infant to 80 years old . The location of the home is literally 2 blocks from shops , restaurants playground and pier. The beach was a quick drive away but the traffic is minimal and we rented a golf cart so we enjoyed tooling around the island. One of the best part of the home is the pool. We swam everyday and Patty has pool floats supplied as well as some fun rubber ducks. My family never felt on top of each other because the house is spacious. We loved the large family room and large dining room table. We played alot of games in the evening. Patty even has a huge armoire filled with games and puzzles for inside fun. The Strachan Carriage House has become our number one vacation spot.

This is a great place to stay with a large group. We had our family gather after 3 years and were busy the whole time. The house is in a great location. We could walk to the village and to the pier. We usually did the beach in the morning and then after nap time, we would use the pool. Also went to some great restaurants.

St. Simons- Best of the Golden Isles
Our group of ten travelled from all over the country to reconnect after being unable to travel for so long. Patty is an accommodating host who graciously allowed us to postpone our gathering more than once due to the pandemic. She is very organized and responsive to questions and requests.
The location is perfectly situated for privacy and easy access to the Village Pier, good restaurants, shopping, and East beach tidal pools. Jekyll Island is a great side trip to enjoy the tram tour and Sunrise Grille.
We particularly enjoyed the comfortable patio by the private pool and the gathering areas in the house. We spent most mornings and evenings in one of these spaces.
Thank you, Patty, for a memorable trip to St. Simons Island!

“Stupid Cute”
My daughter-in-law summed up the place just after her arrival and yep our stay was great! The location is perfect and the pool a welcome diversion for the grandkids and their grandma! The house is spacious and our group of 12 were very comfortable. Thanks so much to our attentive hostess!

We enjoyed our stay at the Strachan Carriage House at St. Simons Island, Georgia. The privacy of the outdoor space and the in-ground pool gave the home a compound feel of a much larger property which all the guests thoroughly enjoyed. The property is very charming and is ideally located. We spent most of our time exploring the town and enjoying restaurants and outdoor spaces.
The positives of renting this property in addition to what has already been mentioned include:
• Ample furnishings to accommodate large groups of people.
• Conversion of two sets of twin beds to king beds to accommodate our group of 7 couples.
• Nice kitchen with a large refrigerator, professional stove for cooking, and kitchen accessories.
• Contract allowances based on personal requests (i.e., check-in two hours earlier than the contract time, etc.).
• Consistent communication and outreach with the owner.
Everyone appreciated the charm of a turn of the century home. While surface areas were clean and tidy, other areas, in our opinion, require attention. For example, we encountered:
• Indoor/outdoor furnishings in need of repair/replacement (i.e., dining room chair bottom, rocking chair back, moldy outdoor cushions, bed mattresses beyond life expectancy)
• The outdoor shower is outdated and its current condition did not encourage any use.
• Mold/mildew smell in the pool house, pool house refrigerator, damp smell upon entering the main house where mildew was reported around molding of main house refrigerator (which could not keep bags of ice or ice cream), along with mold/mildew in some of the bathroom tub/showers.
• An accumulation of dust on standing oscillating fans on the third level, and other spaces.
• Sleep disturbances by critters scurrying back and forth in the attic throughout the night.
• Limitation of a large group to view football on a 24” in-cabinet TV in the main living area, while viewing anything on the larger TV on the upper level was just not possible.
While disclosures were made upon our arrival regarding conditions of the main house refrigerator, the pool house sink, and previous critter sightings, advanced notification was warranted as it may have altered our plans, along with food items purchased.

This historical house with "modern" swimming pool area fit our needs! All 16 of our family members fit comfortably. We spent the majority of our time in the outdoor area in the pool or playing cornhole and other games in that area. The detached pool house was very handy for using the bathroom and fridge for our drinks and ice. The kitchen was a little smaller than what we are used to for our large group but it served the purpose (we ate several meals at the nearby restaurants). We rented a golf cart and bikes which we used often, but we also walked the couple of blocks to the stores/restaurants as well as the waterfront. We really liked the island, traveled over to Jeckyl Island one day, kayaked and deep sea fished. One thing to keep in mind is that it is not the most ideal "beach sand" or swimming waters when you think of "going to the beach". While there is a park a short drive away with a larger beach area the majority is under water during high tide. So when the tide goes down the beach is a very hard sand and the water is a little "dirty" looking because of the nearby rivers bringing in sediment. It's clean, just more brown looking than blue. We still walked and sat at the beach...
Overall, Patty was probably the best communicator that we have had in our 15 trips. We were extremely pleased and I recommend staying here!

Our family came together from far and wide and had a wonderful time on SSI staying at this lovely historic home. Great meals were prepared and shared around the large dining room table which we later gathered around to play family games and have lots of laughs. The covered porch with the ceiling fans was also a favorite hangout spot both before and after enjoying the pool. I had wanted to gather here for years. So glad it finally happened!

Family vacation of a lifetime.
We spent a week here with 3 families which included many young adults and had the vacation of a lifetime. The privately walled and beautifully landscaped pool area is perfect and served as the hub of our gathering. There are also many spaces to find your own version of quiet. The bedroom and bathroom situation allowed privacy and comfort. The third floor bedrooms were huge, comfortable and well air conditioned. Some family members needed to work and the private office served them well. lThe kitchen is small, but functional, and the second refrigerator in the guest house was key for storing beverages.
The house is centrally located in town with a simple walk to the central pier, many restaurants and stores. We visited during the pandemic and were able to carry out from many great restaurants. We often ate from many different places for the same meals to satisfy different appetites and diets. The small local beach which comes/goes based upon the tides is simply out the back door for beautiful Georgia sunsets. We rode bikes about 2 miles to East Beach to play in the waves.
Patty is a superbly communicative, and very well organized host. We all agreed we would easily stay here again.

Enchanting Cottage By The Sea
We are very frequent travelers and very often utilize VRBO to locate wonderful properties. First visit to this property and first visit to the Island. Due to COVID-19, everything was unusual from a tourist standpoint but we were able to make the best of it regardless! Lovely historic home filled with comfy couches, knick knacks, cozy spaces and charm! Every room made you feel like you were at Grandma's house! The kitchen was quite small but very cozy and we had fun cooking almost every meal. Bedrooms were comfy, bathrooms plentiful. The outdoor space was a highlight for us with the pool and surrounding area. We spent the majority of our time out there and were fortunately, blessed with great weather! We enjoyed a few walks on the beach, however, the view is not so picturesque with the shipwreck directly in front of you. We took some time to read about what had happened there and researched how they are addressing it! The beach is only present when the tide is out and it can be a nice stretch but the sand never dries enough to sit on it with towels and such. So we were very thankful for the pool! Patty was an excellent hostess...calling every few days to check in and was a tremendous resource for connections in the area for groceries, dining and our Private Chef. All in all a wonderful experience for us all!
P.S. A few suggestions - need some dresser space in the master bedroom and the Queen rooms on the second floor...plenty of room but lacked areas to put things away. Also, the kitchen could use a very thorough cleaning, especially the stove area and the refrigerator!
Thank you for sharing your most lovely home with us and please stay safe and healthy!

Perfect location for getaway
The Strachan Carriage House made for an extraordinary setting for a long-awaited [extended] weekend with friends.
The house has plenty of room to spread out – comfortable gathering areas, the large dining table and the pool area were highlights. The house is well-equipped for dining in with a terrific grill. The outdoor shower is a bonus!
The attention to detail is evident. Patty made the booking process easy, providing lots of information about the property, allowing the excitement to build.
Despite COVID-19 restrictions, the island was crowded but we found the perfect spot – close enough to the village to walk to dinner and available shopping but very private. We loved being close to end-of-the-street access to the beach for low-tide walks.
Thank you, Patty, for a great experience!
