About this cottage rental
This Large cottage with 8 bedrooms is in the most idyllic location of all New Forest Cottages, set in over an acre of gardens directly adjoining the New Forest itself with direct forest access. Adjacent is small cottage sharing this amazing location. From the garden gate into the forest you can walk for miles on forest paths without seeing a car or a road all day long, but ponies, deer, other walkers and cyclists.
You are able to abandon the car for the whole break here if you want to really get away from it all, as the cycle tracks which link up the whole New Forest are accessible from Blackwater, opposite, and Bank, with it’s village pub, and larger villages Lyndhurst and Brockenhurst are accessed safely on the cycle tracks. Or they are a short drive if not feeling like so much exercise!
From the garden gate into the forest you can walk for miles on forest paths without seeing a car or a road all day long, but ponies, deer, other walkers and cyclists. Rhinefield House hotel is at the top of the driveway, and adjacent is Vine cottage sharing this amazing location.
A very light, central hub kitchen/dining space, with views over the large back garden, still features original ironwork. The cosy but spacious lounge is directly off this central space, with two sets of French windows opening to the front garden and large deck, enclosed by the beautiful outside wall of the listed walled garden. Children love the large garden here, where there are wide open spaces for playing ball games, Frisbee or flying a kite, and various smaller areas to explore. The open back garden can all be seen straight from the kitchen and dining spaces, and the large front garden from the lounge and the conservatory playroom, families can be together while each doing what they enjoy.
Walks from here are beautiful, you will not need to go out in the car first – you are already there! This is particularly useful in a larger group that would mean several cars needed to be used to go out. Dogs are most welcome here, please note whilst fences dogs can get out of the garden, plus they can enjoy walks each day without needing to bundle into the car first.
Brockenhurst is a delightful New Forest village, with ‘the splash’, a ford where the stream runs through the village. There’s plenty of pubs, restaurants, sandwich and coffee shops, as well as bookshop, several antique shops, bakeries and two small supermarkets.
Lyndhurst is similarly sized, and known as the ‘capital’ of the New Forest, again with a choice of pubs, tea rooms and restaurants, local shops and a small supermarket.
The really light kitchen/dining room here is central, with views across the garden and good sized dining tables for everyone to eat, socialise and relax together. At one end of the room is the kitchen, which has a freestanding stainless steel kitchen with ample work surfaces.
There's a dual fuel range cooker and freestanding fridge/freezer, dishwasher and a washing machine. Ideal for having a chef-catered meal for a special evening in, with no washing up to do, no tables to set, no wine to pay a lot for, or taxis to arrange home, as you’re already there!
Through a double door wide opening in one side is the lounge, a large, warm, cosy room with a wood burning stove and lovely outlook over the front garden. This has a television and plenty of contemporary armchairs and settees making a very comfortable room.
There are eight double and family bedrooms at this large cottage, family rooms each normally arranged with a double bed and one or two singles. Three of the bedrooms are at one end of the long, large cottage, which share a bathroom, with three more bedrooms at the other end, again with a nearby bathroom. Each end has a family room overlooking the back garden, and doubles or smaller family rooms with front or back garden views. The other two bedrooms are central, off a lobby from the main dining space, and again share another bathroom. These two bedrooms overlook the front garden, one of these has a conservatory at the end which doubles as a playroom where children can read or draw amongst lovely surroundings with plenty of light.
The three distinctive bedroom regions work well when 3 or more families share the cottage, or where a large group can arrange themselves to be near their closest friends. Each bathroom has a wc, basin, and a bath with a shower over, with glazed bath screen. Each has a heated towel rail.
The forest cycleways run from here too, so bring or hire bikes and get the most from your break. The unique forest setting and location is everything!

This property is not 'posh' but it is absolutely perfect for a large family or group gathering. There is masses of space for cooking, eating and socialising and sitting outdoors. The setting of the cottage is second to none - surrounded by the fabulous New Forest and the giant redwoods of the Rhinefield Ornamental Drive. There are lots of walking and cycling trails immediately accessible from the property. We took our youngsters out on a dusk walk on the first night we arrived and they saw deer, owls, bats, froglets and a variety of other wildlife. They instantly connected with nature, which is what we wanted.
The wi-fi is weak due to where the property is but it's in such a lovely setting that you really won't want to be connecting with the internet too much.
The sleeping areas are in three distinct areas which make it very peaceful. The dining and cooking area is huge and allows for families and groups to mingle while food is being prepared and when eating. There are two dishwashers as well, which is invaluable!
We really enjoyed our stay in this property and will probably visit again at some time in the future.

This is a hard review to write as I want to be fair. We are just coming out of a pandemic and we have to allow for that. I think we were the first in. The couple who were hosts or owners made an effort to address our issues on the day but the accommodation was disappointing. It was unfortunately a cold and very wet June weekend and we had no hot water - some tepid and no Internet which they said was a provider issue. That didn't make sense as we all use providers and the Internet line was just not connected. I only booked this venue knowing it had Internet. All dvds removed due to covid - everything very bare. They are clearly decorating the rooms but some are very basic. The layout is good with nice big cental rooms and 3 bedroom areas. If the sun had shone we could have used the outdoors and would probably have had a better experience. The location and gardens were superb. All in all we loved seeing our limited bubble family but were all very happy to leave and to return to home comforts asap.
