About this house rental
This family vacation home is waiting for you! Oceanfront, and sleeps up to 16 of your closest friends and family.
The location of this oceanfront beauty cannot be beat. The view is out of this world. Just 7 blocks south of the Surf City Pier, it sits in the most desired section of South Shore Drive, before the S curve. Very easy walk to the pier, shops, and restaurants.
This property was updated in 2017/2018 and again after Florence. New flooring, shiplap, new kitchen that is very well stocked. Mattresses are top of the line Beauty Rest Platinum Series. We know you want to get a good nights sleep, and you will. Besides, you're on vacation, you deserve it after a long fun day on the beach. You also get all new kitchen appliances, new small appliances, and every utensil you could ask for, AND, nice sharp knives. We also provide a fully stocked spice rack, olive oil, and vinegar. We just ask that if you empty it, you replace it. I try and keep the kitchen stocked with the items that I didn't want to bring when we traveled here for vacation. There are smart TVs, wifi, ceiling fans, and fresh paint. And, the wet bar with wine fridge is the bomb!
We have extremely comfortable high back resin chairs on the roomy deck so you can relax by the ever changing ocean, watch the sun rise, pods of dolphins, the occasional whale, and witness the colorful sky during sunset. You will love sitting under the beautiful night sky, stargazing till your heart's content.
The main living area has a nice big smart TV, and plenty of seating. And did I mention the views? There is a dining area just off the kitchen. Also on the first floor are four bedrooms and three baths. The first bedroom has two twins, the second has one queen, the third has two queens, and the fourth is the oceanfront master king with attached bath. Upstairs you will find a loft, with amazing views( in case I forgot to mention), a smart TV, two built in bunks, one bedroom with a daybed and trundle, and another bedroom with king, and another full bath.
Just off of the living room is a screened in porch, a nice place to relax out of the sun but still be outdoors.
We do not provide linens, you can bring your own, or rent your own. I recommend Sweet Dreams Linens, they do a fantastic job.
Fall of 2020 brought new siding, and the remainder of the new windows.
Do yourself a favor and give this place a chance! Pets will be considered, if cleared with us first. Maximum of two dogs, no cats. There is a pet fee.

Great location right on the beach and walking distance to the pier and shopping. 4 families ranging from 8 months to 54 and we all had our own space. Even with the tropical storm no one got on any nerves. Kitchen was very well stocked. Beds were comfortable. A couple little things, like the outdoor hose needs replaced, shower rinse off area should have something with a little more water pressure so the wind doesnt blow the water to the dunes, a floor or box fan would be nice for airflow down the front hall. But overall we had a great time and loved the home. Would definitely recomend

This home really felt like a home, it had plenty of beach toys, chairs, space, entertainment options, kitchen supplies, etc. and it was also beautiful! We had a large group of multiple families and there were separate spaces for grandparents, me with young kids, and three pre-teens and parents. The location was amazing and so easy to get to from the bridge! The host was fantastic with communication, had a welcome binder of information, and answered any questions we had during our stay! I would 100% come back to this exact house for a future vacation!

This house is fantastic! It's close enough to walk to many places in Surf City but just far enough out to avoid crowds. The house is furnished with many upgrades and a fully loaded kitchen. We had 12 people in our group. Everyone had their own space. The home floorplan is great that beds and baths are away from the main living space. Access to the beach is easy. There were many beach toys, boogie boards, and chairs provided. The host was very gracious and easy to work with. We parked five cars out front, including a full-size pickup, some SUVs, and a minivan. We would definitely return here. We had a super trip.
I have two suggestions:
-There are black shades that look custom made on many bedroom and bathroom windows. But at night they are see-through. Bring some towels or something to add an extra layer on the windows.
-It would be nice to have a walkway from the front to the back deck without going through the home. Think carrying beach paraphernalia. I realize this is very minor.
Overall this is by far the best home we have stayed in. We would surely return if we can work it out.

We had a fabulous week in August here. Annette was great about giving us any info we needed ahead of time. The place is in great shape, completely renovated after a hurricane in 2018. It looks new. Lots of space for a large family. Lots of sand toys and chairs on the back porch! Well stocked kitchen with utensils, spices etc. Great new large capacity washer and dryer. Enough parking for 5 cars. Upstairs can be a bit more of a private area...with one big king room and a single trundlebed room. The bunks (2 twins) are in open area off the upstairs loft...so open to downstairs noise...but just fine for teens who will sleep late through anything. It is close to the pier and shops...also great for teens who may want to walk there. Great views and right next to an active turtle nest! This is one of the nicest places we have stayed in Topsail. We would definitely go back. Highly recommend

We had a lovely stay at “What’s in a name?”. The house is lovely, location is a short walk to the pier and lots of space for everyone. Beautiful weather, beautiful beach, and a sea turtle nested right next to the deck one of the nights. We have a multi-family crew and each had our own space. Will definitely come again.

Annual cousin beach week was a huge success. Family members came from 5 different states. Perfect location just steps to the beach. Annette was amazing with communication and answering any questions. We have stayed in Topsail, NC for many years. Last year we discovered Annette’s place and it was exactly what we were looking for with a family of 7 adults and 4 kids. It gave us the ability to have privacy and be together. Thank Annette, for stocking the house so well it feels like home. Maybe even better😊. We especially love the high, colorful chairs in the deck. Great place to read, watch the waves and kids!! We look forward to staying again in the future.

Top of the heap!
We've stayed at a lot of places on Topsail over the years and it's hard to find a place that sleeps so many people, with a separate full bath for four families, and checks so many other boxes. Great layout, good location, screened porch is very nice for storing sandy gear, a third-floor hideaway for a whole family, well-stocked kitchen, and more. Very nice stay. The property owner seems to live across the street and is responsive to questions/issues via text. Would definitely stay here again!

Wonderful Thanksgiving
Working with Annette was great the whole time! And the house is lovely. It was a perfect space for our group of nine (7 adults and 2 kids). Kitchen was well equipped and helped us put out a great Thanksgiving meal.
We took full advantage of the deck space and loved the location. We had plenty of space to spread out, great bedrooms, and easy parking.
This house has a lot of things other houses consider extras: Tupperware, spices, toilet paper and paper towels to get you started, tissues, and cleaning supplies. Also, the beds were very comfortable! We have a group of picky sleepers and everyone was happy with the mattresses.

Excellent property with a great location!
Our family of 5 didn't use this house to capacity, but it was perfect because we got to spread out and had all alone time we wanted!! We always stay on the beach and in walking distance to town so this really met our needs. The place was clean. The kitchen was well stocked and didn't need anything we couldn't find while cooking. The boys loved the fishing and skim boarding and I loved relaxing. The owner was available and quick to respond when we needed assistance. Would definitely rent this place again when we return to NC.

Beautiful home
We stayed here mid September and had a wonderful time. The house is beautiful and well stocked. Love the closeness to the beach and ease of it. Loved the outside shower and the porch chairs. It's a beautiful beach with lots of shells. There is a lot of steps to bring your luggage in by. Loved how close it was to the restaurants and shops! Lots of bedrooms. Only thing if someone is on the TV in loft the controller for livingroom will control loft TV as well. So it may change their channel & vice versa. The master bedroom was wonderful. Would definitely recommend this house!

Heavenly Views
The place is like home away from home. The upstairs is like a mini suite and was thoroughly enjoyed by our adult son. Sunrise and night views are spectacular from the deck. We were lucky enough to capture photos of the Space-X launch at night...it was awesome! Everything was perfect and made for a memorable getaway. We talked about extending our stay and would have if it wasn't already booked. We can't wait to come back!

Another great week at What’s in a Name. This was our second visit to this beautiful home (2019) and once again it was perfect for our family, with 6 adults and 6 grandchildren ranging from 3 to 10.. The beachfront location makes it so easy and convenient for all. The home is spacious, well equipped and you can not beat the view!

We had admired this home for many years of renting in Surf City. It lived up to our expectations. Lots of bedrooms and baths, with a spacious great room. Recently well-done renovation. We had a delightful time.

Would recommend
House is overall very good for Topsail. Plenty of room for our group of 9. We were stuck inside a bit more then we would have liked with the weather, and house has a lot of games and puzzles which was nice. Only negative if you have young kids is the loft area with tv is directly over the living room and main tv. We found those two spaces competing a lot. Beds are nice. Soft if you like that sort of thing. Showers were only real disappointment, as they are cave style inserts with poor water pressure. Outdoor shower is great and has hot water. Grill worked and had propane. Kitchen had everything you could need. Decks and screen porch were perfect and had great views. House has two king beds which is huge when traveling with another family so no one couple gets the “small” bed. Way more positives then few negatives. Would recommend.

Wonderful property and location
Spent 10 days here and I have to say it was hard to leave. Beautiful home with amazing ocean views. Conveniently located within walking distance to shops and eateries, this home is very nicely furnished with super comfortable beds. The kitchen is equipped with everything you may need. Plenty of parking. Would definitely book again.

Loved this house!! Beautifully decorated yet comfortable. Plenty of room to relax, play games, and eat... without having to move anything around (so many zones!!). Bedrooms were comfy. Location on beach was perfect - not too close to the public beach entrances. Quiet. And Annette was the consummate host! She was responsive and helpful. It felt like staying at a friend's house. Just loved being there and look forward to our return!

Renovations done are this property were SUPER cute! There is one thing to be aware of, that the owners prefer the windows to not be opened as they need to be closed from the exterior via ladder. Once we understood this, it was easy to comply with! We had a full house at 16 people, and there was still lots of room for storage while there. Fully appointed kitchen!! Great screened in porch also!

House was wonderful. They have done a great job renovating the property and maintaining the upkeep. Location is great. Easy walk to town. Annette is great to work with as we have rented one of her other homes the previous year. House offers a good amount of space and the screened porch is great. We would definitely stay here again.

Great family vacation
We enjoyed our week at this great home. We are local to the area and know how severe the damage from Hurricane Florence was to this house, we were totally impressed with all of their restoration and accommodations. There were 12 of us; 6 adults and 6 grandchildren that ranged from 14 months to 8 years old and the house met all of our needs. Annette was very easy to work with and we will definitely consider renting again.
