About this cottage rental
YOUR SAFETY IS OUR PRIORITY. WE FOLLOW ALL US CDC GUIDELINES and APPROVED PRODUCTS TO ASSURE YOUR SAFETY.
Dear Guests,
It is our deepest hope that we are through the worst of this crisis before you arrive. Know that your safety is of utmost importance to us. We look forward to seeing you during the season and wish you safe travels and great health. If you have any symptoms of COVID-19, please cancel your reservation for a 100% refund.
IMPORTANT NOTICE: IN THE STATE OF MAINE ALL GUESTS MUST WEAR A MASK WHEN ENTERING STORES. YOU ARE REQUIRED TO BE 6 FEET AWAY FROM OTHERS.
Joe and I wanted to send a SAFETY notice to our current and possible guests regarding the rental of "Drifting In" during the Spring, Summer or Fall seasons. We SANITIZE (washing all bedding at 140 F degrees) all soft surfaces, we SANITIZE all hard surfaces, we high temperature STEAM clean the floors, and we use an OZONE GENERATOR between guests. Our aim is to keep you SAFE and HEALTHY so you can enjoy a wonderful vacation.
We have always maintained a clean, sanitized and allergy-free rental. We have added the use of an ozone generator between guests that does kill SARS and viral diseases. For your safety, we continue to use CDC recommended products to kill bacteria and viruses. Sheets and towels are cleaned with Lysol sanitizer & 7th Generation laundry soap. These eliminate bacteria and viruses while using largely bio-based ingredients. All counters in the kitchen & bathroom, the toilet, bathtub & any surface you touch such as the kitchen faucet, bathroom flush, bathroom faucet, shower & tub are thoroughly sanitized with 80% alcohol products. The floors are sanitized (steam heat) & all of the cloth furniture is sprayed with bacteria & virus killers made for soft surfaces. All of our products are allergy free because they biodegrade within 15 minutes so there is no danger to you or yours.
WHAT TO DO and WHERE TO EAT:
Joe is a Captain and runs a business called Rocky Coast Cruises www.rockycoastcruises.com. If you rented Drifting In for 4 or more days, you can choose to go on a cruise for 90 minutes. If you'd like a longer cruise, it's $90/hour for the boat with a maximum of 4 people. You may bring your own food and drink because charter insurance will not allow us to provide food.
On another note, Harpswell is a perfect place to be when needing to maintain 6 feet between people. There are many choices for beaches; Cedar Beach, Stovers Beach, Potts Point Preserve, Mitchell Field Beach, Lands End Beach, as well as numerous trails with many along the ocean with incredible views. Information on these are left for you to peruse on your vacation.
Additionally, you can enjoy fresh seafood meals from Erica's or Holbrook's Lobster Wharf at Cundy's Harbor (both are BYOB and outdoors). The Dolphin Restaurant has take out so you can bring the food back to enjoy Al fresco meal on your large deck at "Drifting In" or eat at the many outdoor tables provided. Many of the restaurants in Brunswick (Enoteca on Maine Street is our favorite) and Freeport also have take out & eat-in or eat outside options. Our favorite in Freeport is the Tuscan Brick oven Bistro. Harpswell has a new restaurant by our only light in town, the Schoolhouse 1913. It is completely renovated and beautifully finished. They have brunch and dinner with curbside pick-up and outside dining. They are closed Monday and Tuesday.
H2O Outfitters rents kayaks and gives tours via kayak. You can call them at 207-833-5257 to prearrange your choice of trip or rental. We will give a free daytime boat tour or sunset cruise on our 24 foot Grady White with every reservation 4 days or longer (weather and season permitting- safety first). Seeing Harpswell from the water is a once-in-a-lifetime experience!

The Drifting Inn was even cuter in reality than it looks in the pictures! It was also a cozy and easy place to stay for 10 days, with a full (and fully-equipped) kitchen, large private bedroom, and great loft with a second bed, desk, and cozy chairs. We loved the location, just a 7 minute walk from the beach, an easy walk, bike, or drive to a variety of lobster shacks, trail heads, and just 20 minutes from the friends we were visiting in Brunswick and Bath. Joe and Lynn were amazing hosts and gave us fun local tips that really enhanced our trip. We'd happily stay here again.

Absolutely beautiful and Joe and Lynn were very responsive. There was everything you need and more. They had cheese and crackers, a bottle of wine, fruit, coffee, creamer, and two coasters for souvenirs. It was our first stop on our road trip of Maine and was our favorite place we stayed. Will definitely be going back to stay. Thank you again for your hospitality.

Joe and Lynn are so kind and helpful, and both the property and surrounding area are absolutely gorgeous. Such a charming place to be in the summer — I am sure we will be back!!

The hosts, Lynn and Capt. Joe, treated us like we were special. However, I bet they make ALL their guest feel that way. The house was spotlessly clean. We were greeted with beer, wine and cheese upon arrival, and the fridge had everything we might want for breakfast the next day. Capt Joe and Lynn took us out for a boat tour of the area, and since it was my wife's birthday, they bought her a dozen roses. We felt we had left good friends behind when we left for home. Awesome stay.

We had a wonderful stay with gracious hospitality, in an amazing accommodation! Joe and Lynn thought of everything one might need to accommodate us during our stay. The steps up were a challenge for older joints but so very worth the effort enhanced by views of the cribstone bridge and lovely oceanside decor!

Our hosts, Joe and Lynn, were extremely helpful in filling us in on places of interest in Maine that we were not aware of (Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens and the Maine Maritime Museum for a start!). Communication was excellent prior, during, and afterwards, plus all the privacy you could ask for. There is wi-fi at your fingertips and wonderful welcome treats of wine, cheese, local maple syrup, IPA beer, and essentials of eggs, milk, and butter . There are all the beach essentials you might need to spend a day on the beach as well. They did not forget anything! Did I mention it was really clean and the bed was amazingly comfortable? Don’t miss this chance to relax and explore Maine in this wonderful place. We would recommend this to everyone and would return without a question. Thank you Joe and Lynn!!

My wife and I celebrated our anniversary with a 1 week stay at Lynn and Joe's rental. Every bit of it was perfect. The location was quiet, peaceful and relaxing. Yet, within about 30 minutes of a number of places (Bath, Bailey Island, Brunswick, Freeport) to visit for sights, history, or trails and beach. Of course, the lobster and fresh fish were excellent. But, Lynn and Joe's hospitality and kind touches to welcome their visitors is beyond any rentals we have ever stayed in. The cruise that Joe provided was so nice - informative, beautiful and relaxing. The welcome gifts of food is really nice when coming in from a distance without time to get to the store before checking in. So many good places to eat, close by, or short drives. Even though you stay above the garage, there is no noise. A good number of stairs to be aware that you need to use to enter, but that should be no surprise, as you know you are staying on the top level of the building. The week was one that we will always remember with nothing but great thoughts about Joe and Lynn's rental, and that area of Maine. Thanks so much, Joe and Lynn!

The place was just wonderful. All of the coastal decorations and attention to detail to make our stay so pleasurable were really outstanding: the local snacks, the bathrobes, the extra towels, the beautiful dishes, the boat ride, and just the hosts genuine kindness and so much more…

We were delighted with Drifting In as soon as we walked through the door. Everything is clean, comfortable, exceptionally well maintained, and uniquely decorated. We were immediately impressed by the attention to detail and decorative skill that went into each room. There is complete privacy at Drifting In. It is a single rental facility, located above a detached garage. Lynn and Joe live in their house next door. They are a delightful couple and attentive hosts. A special highlight included in our stay was Joe’s one-and-a-half-hour boat tour around the neighboring islands. If you really want to appreciate the Maine coast, you need to see it by boat and not just on the land. The location is excellent. It is near the end of Rte. 123. When you go out of the driveway and turn right you will have an ocean side bench seat within three hundred feet with a view across the bay toward the Cribstone Bridge (only one of its kind in the world). When you go left, you can walk the road for a half mile and be at Stover’s Point Reserve beach overlooking the harbor. There are many other preserves with walking trails. We liked this Rte. 123 side of Harpswell since it is more rural than the Rte. 24 peninsula across the bay, also part of Harpswell, which is more heavily developed. Brunswick is only a twenty-five-minute drive on Rte123 for groceries, visiting Bowdoin College, museums, restaurants, AMTRACK, and the Maine State Music Theatre.

Lynn and Joe have an absolutely beautiful guest house in an absolutely beautiful corner of the world. They went out of their way to make us feel comfortable, answer questions about local events and history, and the guest house lacked nothing. As an amateur gardener, I was also impressed with the wonderful plantings around the property, and the amazing meadow that they created. We (all three of us) would love to come back again.

This is an awesome place! Lynn has set this up so very nice. Her decorating touches are amazing. Her attention to detail with everything you need in the kitchen to the very nice quality sheets, towels, bath/shower supplies is amazing. She thought of everything - she left us wine, beer, cheese, crackers, eggs, pancake mix, milk, creamer, coffee, sugar, Maine syrup and Maine blueberry jam - everything we needed to kick back and enjoy our first afternoon and also our first morning. The location is great - the water with a deck is a very short walk (couple houses) and the beautiful beach is a short walk the other direction. We received many tips from Lynn and Joe about the area and places to eat and hike and sightsee. They are really wonderful hosts. Even though the apartment is over their garage, it feels very private and comes with a designated parking space so no one is anyone's way. There is also a deck off the apartment with chairs and table and gas grill that is private. The kitchen is literally equipped with everything you need - including nice spices . I can't say enough nice things about Lynn and Joe's place. We were there in late fall so didn't use any of the summer things that they have available (beach chairs, wagon, cooler). Lynn thought of everything! Even though we were there at the end of the season, Captain Joe still took us out on his great 27 foot Albin boat for a cruise. He picked a great day and we had a great time.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Harpswell. The apartment was extremely clean, very comfortable and in a great location. There were so many nice touches from the breakfast food in the fridge and the wine, cheese and crackers on the counter to the towels, bathrobes and slippers. The boat ride with Lynn and Joe was another highlight! Best VRBO experience we’ve had - highly recommend this property!!

Lynn and Joe have the perfect spot and the best accommodations for Maine. They provided tips and all the things to do and see. Morse’s seafood nachos are amazing and the crab melt at Erica’s is a must! The boat ride was the icing on the cake! This is by far the best vrbo we have ever stayed in. The attention to details and cleanliness make for an exceptional experience! Thank you both!

Renting the unit was very easy and the owners communicated with us very well. The unit was super cute. The way it is decorated was great. The owners left some cheese, crackers, wine and so much more. We were so surprised by this. It was great.

Would highly recommend this place

We have stayed at this property before and whenever we come to Maine, it will be our go-to ‘home away from home’. EVERYTHING you could want or need is provided-and high quality, too. Our stay at Drifting Inn
Lynn and Joe were wonderful hosts and are very thoughtful. The house was immaculate, and every little thing was thought of from the breakfast food in the fridge to the toothpaste and toothbrushes in the bathroom. All the beach amenities (chairs, umbrella, towels even a wagon to carry them to the beach) were there for our convenience. There were many restaurants, a small grocery store, an ice cream shop and some art/pottery galleries close to where we stayed. Also a plethora of hiking spots. Joe took us for a boat ride around Casco Bay in his boat and told us a lot about the history of the area. We truly enjoyed our stay and would recommend Drifting Inn wholeheartedly! Drifting in was very clean and comfortable. We felt at home with everything we needed and many extras. Lynn and Joe are right there if you need anything but also give you lots of privacy. Truly Perfect Stay
My husband and I enjoyed our week at Drifting In very much. Lynn and Joe are great hosts! Lynn thought of everything to make a home away from home and then she went further for a perfect touch. She truly has thought of everything for a quiet and relaxing stay.
You smell her commitment to cleaning practices the moment you walk in the door. It is obvious with the fresh, clean air.
The deck was enjoyed each morning for coffee and the evenings were nice with the soft lighting along privacy cover. A very cozy place to relax and listen to the birds while there.
Harpswell is a beautiful setting and the town's people are very friendly. We took advantage of outdoor activities, such as hiking, birding, and boating. It has several eateries and fresh seafood close by and Brunswick is just a few minutes away. We liked the area for the tranquility, far enough away from the hustle and bustle of Portland and Boothbay, yet close enough if we wanted to go.
I highly recommend Drifting In. It is on my best list of VRBO's.

Just Right
The property is in an ideal location. You can walk right down to the cove, sit on the back deck and enjoy the breezes and really relax. It is quiet and clean. "Nice and cozy". Also, being very close to a couple of peninsula points (Potts Point and Stovers Point) you can really lose yourself in the tranquility. Great seafood establishments (Allens Seafood for Lobsters) among many other very accessible places. Quick 11 mile ride to Brunswick and Rts. 1 and 295. And the owners REALLY respect your privacy. Many extras as well. They set you up for the first day or so. Shop for food after checking in, you won't need anything until the next day for sure. Very Happy with our experience. Would love to stay there again.

Treetop Treat
This was a cozy comfortable place to stay in beautiful Harpswell. A second floor apartment with a loft bedroom up in the treetops that was just so. Every amenity you can think of, it was beyond well stocked and appointed. We even were invited aboard the owner’s boat for a cruise around Harpswell. Our hosts, Lynn and Joe, and this lovely Drifting In were beyond expectations. Thank you!

Finding Heaven in Harpswell
The actual renting was a breeze. Nothing prepared us for the beauty of the property. Every amenity was available. We tried to find something, anything that was missing…but we failed. If we needed something it was at our fingertips. Our hosts were warm and welcoming.
The area was the perfect hub for our day trips. The nature trails, scenic vistas, and good food options were everywhere. But coming back to Drifting In was always a treat. We give Drifting In our heartiest recommendations. It’s the perfect Maine experience!

Relaxed Seaside Get Away
We just loved staying at the Drifting In and will definitely be back! Lynn and Joe were wonderful hosts and took us on a memorable cruise around the islands on their boat, which really made our stay special. The cottage is beautiful with hardwood finishes, skylights, and a thoughtful seaside decor that is so cozy and relaxing. The kitchen is well appointed and there are so many little details to enjoy, like a rolling tote and beach chairs to bring to the beach that is just down the road. We enjoyed a beautiful hike, gorgeous views on the quiet beaches, ice cream and gift shops, brunch at Schoolhouse 1913, as well as shopping at the black sheep wine shop and vegetable corner for making dinner at home to enjoy on the deck overlooking the historic Cribstone bridge. Overall a wonderful vacation and we look forward to coming back again soon!

Exceptional.. again!
This was our second time at Joe & Lynn’s “Drifting In”. We loved it so much the first time two years ago, that we doubled the length of our stay. We enjoyed 10 very relaxing days here. Everything was exceptionally clean, green, and comfortable; they and include so many “extras“ it’s like being at home. From the wonderful outdoor deck/grilling space to the well appointed kitchen, the comfortable beds and linens, the bathroom with its walk-in shower (including a rain head and hand held) and thick fluffy towels are above and beyond what most expect in a VRBO vacation rental. Joe and Lynn make you feel welcome and their love of Maine is evident throughout. Thanks again for the relaxing boat ride Captain, and thanks for your warm hospitality Lynn. We are looking forward to our return trip next year!!

The property was very clean and well stocked. Anything that we needed was either there or supplied to us quickly. Only 20 minutes to the nearest Hanaford's Grocery Store. 7 minutes from The Dolphin and Erica's restaurants. 3 minutes from Stovers Point Beach. We would highly recommend this rental.

Another reviewer may have already said this but as lovely as Drifting In looks in the listing photos, they really don't do the place justice. It's incredibly charming and full of character (not to mention clean), decorated largely with pieces from local artists. But I think what isn't fully clear from the pics is how ingeniously designed it is. It feels much bigger than its square footage, there is more storage than we've had in much larger rentals, and it is better stocked than anywhere else we've stayed. In addition to the little luxuries Lynn and Joe provide (robes, slippers, wine, cheese, beer, more) at least three times, I thought "there's no way they'll have xxx" and they did!The location is very private and quiet, but within 20 minutes of anything you could possible need. You're surrounded by flowers, trees, and birdsong, with a view of the sound and Cribstone Bridge as a bonus. Lynn and Joe are wonderful, thoughtful hosts. They gave us a magical boat tour of the islands that was a highlight of a fabulous stay. We hope to be back soon!

Lynn & Joe have thought through every detail for comfort. We appreciated the “things to do” list - hikes, where to eat, activities and more. The kitchen was well stocked and there were a few surprises - delicious ones. The location is perfect - steps to the ocean and some ocean views from the property as well. The home inside is welcoming with nature all around. Joe took us on the water on his boat - a 2 hour tour of the nearby islands and landmarks on a beautiful Sunday. He was full of information and the history - showing us Adm Peary's home, the submarine lookouts and the coves full of lobster boats. We had a delightful time full of great sights, weather and conversation. He also recommended we visit the Maritime Museum in Bath. We visited it not once but twice.Overall this home in Harpswell has a home away from home feel. In a town that is low in hype but one of our better stays. We are coming back in 2022.Thanks Lynn & Joe.

Parents 50th!
We sent my parents on vacation for their 50th Anniversary. They had a wonderful time visiting all the local restaurants and businesses. They said that Lynn and Joe were very pleasant and they enjoyed the privacy of the property. Only glitch was my mom had bumbed her knee and the stairs were a challenge but she was a trooper and tried to only take them once a day. Over all they had a wonderful time and they appreciated all the little extras left for them by the owners. Thank you Lynn and Joe for your hospitality!
