Our stay was very relaxing. The house is well-equipped, and there are reminders and helpful directions taped all over (e.g., how to take care of the garbage, where things are, where to shop, etc.). The space is very secluded. The Tiki hut on the beach is wonderful—we spent a lot of time there. We had fun with the sea kayaks and saw a sea turtle and stingray. Highly rated.

We really enjoyed our stay in the Stone Cottage. The accommodations are very comfortable, and Marion has thought of and supplied everything you need. We especially enjoyed morning coffee on the terrace overlooking the Caribbean and walking on the beach marveling at the tide-pools. Thank you, Marion for being such a wonderful host.

Loved the location right on the water. Very private. Over the 8 days we were there, we didn't see any other people. The water is perfect and we spent alot of time just sitting in the shallow water enjoying the sun.

We were so happy with our stay at Marion's cottage! The pictures don't do it justice. The home was lovely, comfortable, and clean. Marion was a wonderful host and made sure we had everything we needed, which we did. We enjoyed having the shade of the Tikihut and loved walking the beach most evenings. The kayaks were fun as well! We can't wait to return!

This cottage is as cozy, comfortable and well decorated as the images show, and it’s on a beautiful location on Balara Bay. Plus, which is great for travelers, it is well stocked with a variety of miscellaneous items that come in handy if needed, but which vacationers might not carry. Little notes placed around the cottage are helpful and show the host’s caring touch and attention to detail. The kayaks and paddle boards were great to use, and seeing the sunrise & sunsets from under “The Tiki Dome” was really cool. The beachcoaming was a lot of fun and kept the girls entertained, and the guys did catch some Yellow Snapper and Grouper down by the old docks, out of the kayaks. We thoroughly enjoyed our week on Eleuthera and the cottage was in a great location.

This was my second stay. Same level of excellence as before. The house and gardens are beautiful and well cared for, and has everything you need outside of your groceries and personal toiletries, etc. The location close to Governor's Harbor and rest of central Eleuthera makes everything convenient, yet it is totally private and quiet if that's what you're looking for. I'll be back again.

We are very grateful for finding "Hummingbird." The cottage was very comfortable, and felt like home. We enjoyed meeting Marion and her family. They made us feel like we have known them for years. We would 100% stay here again, and again!

My partner have been traveling to Lutra for years, Marion’s place was perfect, the house was clean, equipped with everything you need (especially for cooking) and right on the water. The house was in a great location for us as we travel to the southern part of the island frequently. Marion was great to communicate with and her groundskeeper. I would say if you are searching and Marion’s place is available just do yourself a favor and book it!

We stayed in this beautiful place for a week, if you like privacy, this is the spot! Our host, Marion is very hospitable and responsive. The house is very clean and well organized with everything at your fingertips and we loved the paddle boards, kayaking and snorkeling just a few steps out the door! Also located centrally on the island for easy access to groceries restaurants and fun day trips!

The Hummingbird was amazing and so peaceful. We were in the water every day using the kayaks and paddle boards. It’s almost like having a private beach! The house had everything and the beds were comfortable. I definitely recommend! Marion was so helpful!

The property was exactly as advertised. Marion is extremely helpful. The little rock cottage is equipped with any everything you would ever need for a stay at the beach. If you’re looking for privacy and a beautiful view, this little house is for you.

We just spent 12 days, and it was a wonderfully relaxing stay. The beach in front and around the point were great for walking, shell hunting and swimming. The tiki hut was my go to every day for coffee in the morning and cocktails at night. The paddle boards were also great fun and you can see a lot of underwater life from them. The house is well stocked and comfortable. Marion is a great hostess and was super responsive the few times we needed anything. Highly recommend this property!

This home has a lovely location, close to town, but very private and quiet. The beach is full of shells and quite long for morning walks and beach combing. While there are a few places that you can get in the water, the bay is very shallow and not very inviting for swimming, but because of its location you access one of the best beaches for swimming very easily. Overall a nice home and an excellent value.

We loved staying here. You get your own private beach, a cute cottage with everything you need and easy access to shopping.
The owner Marion Macy is wonderful.

My first advice would be read about Eleuthera and decide if this is the kind of place you like to go for vacation. Think of spending a week at summer camp: Not exactly roughing it, but it's also not anything like visiting Nassau or Orlando. If you're down with what Eleuthera has to offer, read on.
The Hummingbird is really lovely and well kept. The description and pics are accurate. The property is like a tropical garden and is quiet and fairly isolated. The house would be what I'd call "cozy" for four, but it would be totally ideal for a couple and two small kids. It pretty much has all the stuff you'd expect in a vacation cottage or cabin. The two sleeping areas are at opposite ends for decent privacy, everything works, kitchens and bathrooms well furnished. The master bedroom: you will almost certainly need to run the A/C to help cool it down for baths and bedtime. The rest of the house felt cool enough with just the cross-breeze.
The beach: People have different mental pictures when you say the word "beach" and so I will describe this one as "where the ocean meets the land." It changes a lot, with time and tides and storms, but at the present time (and I'll guess most of the time) it's fairly rocky along the water. There were lots and lots of shells if you're into that. There are a couple of spots where it's relatively easy to get in and out. Once in the water and beyond the first 10 yards of shoreline it was all pure white coral sand with very little in the way of any kind of debris. It was fairly shallow (thigh to waist deep) for many yards out. The surf was very mild, maybe 1 foot at most, and a lot of the time it was more like a swimming pool.
If you're not the kind who likes to be IN the water, or if your desire is for body surfing, etc. Eleuthera has you covered, in spades. There are plenty of beaches within 10 or 20 minutes drive that have long, wide expanses of clean, pink sand for walking or sunbathing, relatively few to no people, and good vigorous Atlantic surf.
Governor's Harbor is minutes away and more or less has everything you might need in the way of basic supplies/groceries, party stores and also a good selection of places to eat or get carryout. I found the people are very friendly if you will take time to engage with them.
The VRBO host (Marion Macy) was wonderful to work with. I know for sure I'll be coming back again.

Hummingbird is a cottage with charm, and a perfect location on a quiet beach in a lovely, picturesque bay. Pictures cannot do justice, but we were overjoyed with our stay, and look forward to returning some day. Everything we needed for "beaching" was provided, along with kayaks we kept threatening to use, but relaxing on the beach in the "tiki hut" always seemed more important. The house is supplied with knick knacks, tools, books, and videos-we lacked for nothing. The mid-island location made it easy for exploring when driving, and the nearby town of Governor's Harbour provided all of the foodstuffs, restaurants, and local culture one could ever need-the Friday "fish fry" was delightful, and yummy. Marion lives close by, but never intruded, except to keep us abreast of a couple of local island "issues" that were soon resolved. Our stay was 10 days of near heaven-delightful indeed!

Wow! That’s really all we can say about our great stay at Hummingbird! The location was perfect, close to amenities but still private, quiet and secluded, which was exactly what we were looking for. The house is wonderful…cozy, quaint, charming, clean filled with everything you’d ever need (and then some)! Marion was the perfect host! I can see why people return again to this little slice of paradise. We kayaked, paddle boarded, swam, lazed in the sun…can’t wait to return!

We highly recommend this property if you want to find a peaceful place that still offers activities. From the minute you enter the long private driveway, you know you’re someplace special. The colour of the water on Balara Bay is striking as you pull up to the adorably charming stone cottage. We found lots to do, kayaks, paddle boards, snorkeling right behind the cottage. The grounds are beautifully maintained and so private. Marion has EVERYTHING labelled in the cottage which is so handy! The only downside for us was the daily power outages which made making plans for showering and cooking a challenge but this is not a reflection of this property and apparently common on the Island. We’d just recommend being prepared for this by having snacks ready and be flexible with shower times! We will plan to return to this beautiful place.

Perfect Location - everything you need in a home
Hummingbird was perfectly located on a gorgeous little bay right outside Governor's Harbour. Beautifully decorated inside and out - grounds were gorgeous. Marion has everything you need to enjoy your time in Eleutheria. We cooked several meals in the home and found everything we needed. Beds were comfortable and the AC worked great in the bedrooms - July is HOT, but we found using the fans (she has plenty) worked well. We would absolutely stay at Hummingbird again! Thank you!!

The Perfect Getaway
Hummingbird was amazing and Marion is a lovely host. The property is pristine and the beautiful Caribbean is at your doorstep. The beach is extremely private and a perfect place to relax. We spent our days exploring the island in our rental car which is a must as the settlements are quite a distance apart. We will definitely be back.

Hummingbird is a special spot!
Hummingbird is one of a kind! We spent 10 days at Marion’s idyllic cottage. The home was spotlessly clean, and incredibly organized with everything you may need. The beach directly in front of the cottage is spectacular. We used the paddle boards and kayaks and walked the stretch of beach daily. Marion is incredibly friendly and helpful, we appreciated her tips very much. We experienced delays in our arrival and Marion was flexible and helpful. The layout of the cottage works well for two couples. We are planning to return to this special spot.

Comfortable and Easy
Marion is a great Host. She is very concerned that you are comfortable and have everything you need. The house is older and comfortable -- like a beach cottage. The yard is very nice and landscaped. We were comfortable from the moment we arrived. Everything you need is there and labelled.
During the time we were there the winds often had the beach in front of the house from a little too rough for swimming, but a short drive directly across the island takes you to Twin Cove Beach, a beautiful beach on the Atlantic Side -- there is always someplace to swim.
Highly recommended. Thanks Marion

Quiet, private cove
This is a charming if somewhat dated home. The beds were very comfortable and the location is ideal. It’s within easy distance to markets, gift shops and very good food. Some of the best beaches are a hop skip of the house. The beach in front of the house is wonderful for shelling and walking. We all had a lovely, peaceful time. Marian was always available, but left us to ourselves., creating a very private feel.

This is the place. Stop looking.
My wife and I stayed at the hummingbird for 8 days. From the first email with inquiries to our departing day Marion was amazing. answered all questions and was a lovely host.
She is also very knowledgeable about the island.
Marion’s house has to be hands down the most clean and organized house I have ever stayed in. If you need it, it’s there. Which was lovely being our first time on the island.
The beach and tiki hut made the stay even better
The beach in the back of the house is amazing for shelling and exploring. Everyday we ended the day with a long walk and watched the sunset under the tiki hut. The house itself is situated very close to town about a 5 minute drive and close to two of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen.
Twin coves and French leave beach.
French leave also home to tipys bar it’s really good.
I could go on but I’m guessing at this point you don’t need me to.
This place is it, stop looking.

Wonderful Stay!
This VRBO is a great place to spend your vacation. Since this home is on the ocean, close to many beaches, and right outside of Governor's Harbor, it makes this place an unbeatable location. Using the kayaks was one of our favorite things to do! Going around Levy Island was so cool and highly recommend doing so to anyone that is staying there. Marion and her family are lovely people and were so helpful to recommending places to go as well as providing anything we needed. It was a wonderful trip at a wonderful VRBO.

The hidden gem
100% recommend.
Our family stayed for a week at the hummingbird, we saw beautiful sunsets, sunrises and a great lightning show. Merely 5 minutes from the French Leave 1648 restaurant, 8 mins to the heart of Governor’s Harbor, 10 mins to Twin coves and an easy 10 second walk out the back door to basically your own beach.
When we arrived the waters were choppy, but we ventured out only to discover that at 150 yards off the beach in low tide our 7 year old was still walking. Talking with the owner and her family who came in for Christmas, you can basically walk across to the little island 500 yards,. We took the kayaks along the route they walked but snorkeling there was fantastic. Full moons makes the bay light up at night, so little house lights around make for great stargazing.
Everything is neat, clean, organized and easy to find. Extremely family friendly and, would also be a great place for two couples, or a group of friends to enjoy with the kitchen and living room as the shared space. A/C if needed but plenty of fans to enjoy all the open air from the wind and add your own air flow.
Truly we can not put to words how great this house, host and family are. We were fortunate to meet them in our last days at the house.
Plan your getaway here, you will be happy you did.

Dream Vacation Location
This home was exactly what we were looking for. Our family had an amazing time!
The location is perfect, close to Governors Harbor for supplies, and a great starting point for Atlantic and Caribbean beaches.
The house is well cared for, very clean and organized. Everything we needed was available (especially enjoyed the George Foreman grill for cooking fresh fish).
Marion was an absolutely outstanding host. She provided us with a ton of information from the start for planning, and was gracious enough to help us out while on the island.
Access to the Caribbean behind the house was stellar. In two weeks saw only one other neighbor. Felt safe to let our girls play in the water, and enjoyed snorkeling all of the nearby treasures.
Thank you Marion for sharing your home with us! Lifelong memories.

Beautiful property, amazing location, fabulous host!
Visited Eleuthera for the first time and were so very happy and fortunate to have stayed at the Mockingbird during our two weeks stay! Marion is an excellent host, and the Mockingbird and Hummingbird share the same property overlooking Balara Bay. Both homes have breathtaking views on well kept grounds with easy access to Queens Highway and mere steps to the beautiful waters with soft sand bottoms that have every shade of blue imaginable throughout the day.
The Mockingbird is a great home, with a patio facing Balara Bay, a location we spent a lot of our time. It is private, secluded, and quiet, which is exactly what we were looking for. Both the Mockingbird and the Hummingbird demonstrate a labor of love which is also demonstrated by the meticulous care and condition of the homes and property. The Mockingbird had everything we needed from the kitchen, two bedrooms, great bathrooms with showers, AC, and an extremely well stocked supplies that Marion keeps on hand. Shared between the two homes are kayaks and paddleboards, and we used both exploring the bay seeing rays and searching for the pod of dolphins that have been spotted in the bay. Marion sent us a very detailed document prior to our arrival that answered nearly all our questions and what to expect upon arrival, another appreciated detailed touch as a host.
The house’s location is roughly near the middle of the island, so exploring the far North or South ends of Eleuthera are about an hour, with some of Eleuthera’s most famous beaches just a short drive away. We enjoyed exploring but looked forward to getting back to the house as it was the perfect spot for us and what we were looking for. Governor’s Harbor is a five-minute drive with access to grocery stores, liquor stores, and restaurants/entertainment/shopping. We were a single couple and the home was a perfect location for us, but I would also recommend this location for two couples or a family traveling with two children.
Mockingbird and Marion exceeded our expectations, and we will definitely return!

Marion was the BEST HOST EVER! The hummingbird home was perfectly laid out. It came with a plethora of little miscellaneous things you may forgot or not think of. Bathrooms and bedrooms on opposite sides of the home. Even the neighbors were amazing with their dogs "Wreckum and Bonnie". Eluethera was a beautiful island with many amazing treasures from beautiful beaches to the caves, deep blue holes, and queens bath. The locals in Governors Harbor were extremely friendly and accomadating(must make a stop at Ronnie's bar for a good island vibe and great punch)I cant say enough about Marion the property owner . Good location and nice solid older home
Really, really organized. You won't find anything you will need other than food.
Nice and clean. The owner was especially communicative.
Very nice grounds with beautiful flowers.
The beds were a little firm for us older folks, but younger folks would have no problem.
We highly recommend this home. There were no surprises other the wind blowing hard for days on end. Which kept us out of the water. We did get to use the kayak one day as the wind diminished and caught a nice spanish mackerel while using it.

Lovely family house near Governor's Harbour
My family, with two small children age 3 and 1, had a wonderful week at Hummingbird House for a quarantine-friendly beach week in the COVID era. Beautiful views, kid-friendly waterfront (bring water shoes necessary), and lots of extras that made it easy for us - kayaks, games, booster seat, even a spare car seat. The owner was a pleasure to deal with and was so sweet in making sure we had everything we needed. Our kids especially enjoyed running around in her beautifully landscaped yard, which was completely private and safe from other vehicles. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Lovely property right on the beach. Perfect for walking the beach and watching the sun rise and set. Comfy, cozy accommodations that has everything. Tiki Hut an added bonus to stay shaded during the heat of the day. Perfect for four people. Bedrooms on opposite sides of house to allow for privacy.

Paradise and comfort
We loved the house and the property. The decor is rustic but very comfortable. The property was very clean and was incredibly well equipped. Marian was a gem to work with and very responsive to all of our questions. The location is central to everything and some of the island's best beaches. We will definitely be coming back.
