About this house rental
Balsam Cottage is a family - friendly cottage where our children and grandchildren have gathered to enjoy all that Mid-Coast Maine has to offer. The cottage is a lovely place for multigenerational families to vacation together. The cottage is usually rented from Saturday to Saturday during the summer months and is available for more flexible bookings during spring and fall. This sunny and spacious 4 bedroom cottage is a quiet retreat that is sheltered by tall spruce trees that provide privacy, yet the harbor and the village are only a short walk away. A ramp leads to the large wooden wrap around deck that is outfitted with comfortable chairs, and a table with an umbrella. The deck is a private place to have morning coffee or afternoon tea while watching the birds, reading a good book, or planning your activities for the next day.
On the first floor of the cottage there is comfortable seating for up to eight guests, a fireplace, and a large screen smart TV. Guests can log in to their own Apps. and watch whatever they want. There is also a bright, sunny dining area where the family can gather, and a galley kitchen. There are also two bedrooms on the first floor with Queen beds, and a bathroom with a walk-in shower and a comfort height commode. A washer/dryer unit is also is located on the first floor.
On the second floor there are two large bedrooms, one with a queen bed and the other with a full size bed and a twin bed. There is a second full bathroom between the two bedrooms with a tub/shower.
Access to the shorefront just a five minute walk away. Our guests can launch their kayaks or canoes in this area and explore the waters of Tenants Harbor. We recommend Drift Inn public beach in Port Clyde, a 5-10 minute drive from the cottage, for swimming. This beach has a beautiful sandy expanse at low tide. Bring a picnic lunch, a good book and enjoy the day! There is a public parking lot a short walk from the beach and stairs provide easy access to the shore.
The village of Tenants Harbor is just a short walk away from the cottage with scenic views of the harbor along the way. The post office, general store, The Quarry Tavern & Harbor Bistro at The East Wind Inn, The Town Landing, The Schoolhouse Bakery, and the Happy Clam restaurant with its Outback bar are nearby. Walk down Main Street and drop in at the St. George Historical Society to learn about the area. Continue on past the Town Office and see the sculpture of St George and the Dragon. The Jackson Memorial Library and Granite Gallery are only minutes away.
The cottage is located only a short distance (10 minute)drive to Port Clyde where you can book tickets for the Ferry to Monhegan Island, pick your favorite flavor at Village Ice Cream, enjoy the scenic view from Marshall Point Light, or check out the art galleries.
We invite you to stay at Balsam Cottage in Tenants Harbor as you enjoy your adventures exploring the midcoast of Maine.

Another fantastic vacation spent at Balsam Cottage... this year I stayed for two weeks with two different sets of family/friends each week... we enjoyed the lazy, quiet, cozy time at the cottage and used it as our launching point for many a fun daytrip and activities... such as... visiting magnificent Monhegan Island, going on informative and exciting Puffin Tours, seeing the amazing collections at Owls Head Transportation Museum, walking the long stone breakwater to the Rockland Lighthouse, 4th of July festivities at Camden, scouring quaint gift shops, being inspired by local artists' at their galleries, soaking in the sensational seaside scenery, dipping in the brisk, revitalizing waters at Drift Inn beach and hunting for crabs and snails in the nearby rocky shore, dining at delicious local restaurants, tapping our happy feet to the tantalizing tunes at the Wednesday Jam Session in the St. George Grange Hall, clutching tasty ice cream cones at the Port Clyde Village Ice Cream place, etc., Etc., ETC. Well worth every cent and every moment... looking forward to returning again hopefully next year... this was my third time staying at the blessed Balsam Cottage. Thanks and Blessings to the friendly owners!

A very well located and stocked rental home. This house has ample space and a generally well stocked kitchen. I would note that the "grill" is a George Foreman grill and so smaller and less heat than many will expect. However, we were able to make it work to grill our lobsters. We had a great time and would happily stay here again.

Perfect location for a trip to Maine! House was clean and comfortable located in a beautiful wooded property. Very quiet and loved the serenity of the area. We did a lot of sight seeing of the Maine coast so this was a very good midpoint. Wonderful hosts! Provided detailed listing of restaurant, things to do in the area etc.

Beautiful and secluded in the Main woods
We have stayed many places along the mid coast of Maine. We especially enjoyed this cottage because it is secluded in the woods and a short walk to the center of Tenants Harbor with its unbelievable views and vistas. The village has a general store , post office and a couple of great restaurants. We also enjoyed meeting the hospitable owners who we very concerned that we were enjoying our stay. There are many places to walk and it is a short drive to places of numerous places of interest. Needless to say , we are already planning for a return visit. Perfect get-away
The house was perfect, and we had a lovely stay. It's an easy walk into Tenants' Harbor and the hotel there, which has a great breakfast. And there are several other restaurants within easy reach. There were four well appointed bedrooms and a wonderful deck where we could sit in the morning over coffee or in the evening before dinner. We would definitely recommend this.

Comfortable Stay at Tenants Harbor
Balsam Cottage made for a comfortable stay and we very much enjoyed the location in Tenants and proximity to Port Clyde. The home is equipped with the basics for your stay. Being that the property is used for extended visits, there would be a few additional items that would have enhanced the comfort: larger television, outdoor hose, mirrors in bedrooms and some provided beach chairs. And while not in the owners control, the road in and out was very bumpy to navigate. Overall, the home met our needs, was accurate to the provided description and the owners were very easy and professional to engage with. Thank you!

Celebrating Autumn in a Cozy Cottage
My husband and I traveled to Maine from Florida during the second week of October. We wanted to see the changing leaves and enjoy cooler weather in a lovely location. This cottage did not disappoint. It is very well equipped and extremely comfortable, particularly the beds! We had a great time and I would not hesitate to come back here again.

It provided us the respite we needed.
Sweet cottage in a pine forest, easy walk to the sea. You can see the sunrise thru the trees, as it shines on the water. THarbor is a lovely fishing village, a walking tour of beautiful gardens and harbor views. We really enjoyed our time, as did our golden!

Get Away From It All
We had a lovely stay in this homey cottage. Great location away from it all, beautiful walks, beaches, perfect for getting away from it all. Close enough to enjoy the attractions of Camden, Rockland and more. Family of 4 had plenty of sleeping room and baths for an enjoyable week- long stay. Everything you need in the kitchen plus aN outdoor grill. Great wrap-around deck for sitting out in the mornings, evenings. If you are interested in a comfy Maine experience, this is a great place.

Great family spot in low-key, stunning small town
We loved our stay at Balsam Cottage. The house was tucked away in a large wooded area and just a few minutes from the beautiful Tenants Harbor. Close to the general store, local lobster shack, several galleries. It was an excellent jumping off place for us to explore much of mid-coast Maine.

Another Grand Vacation at Balsam Cottage!
We first stayed here last year (my sister, here four kids and me)... we enjoyed the place and area so much we returned again this year and included another sister and brother-in-law (from Georgia). Both times were for the week of the 4th of July... we loved spending the 4th up in Camden for the free concert and fireworks. We enjoyed a dandy day excursion over to Monhegan Island another day. The Drift Inn Beach is nearby and oh-so-magically-Maine! The Port Clyde Ice Cream place saw us most evenings... YUM! Loved the local general stores in both Tenant's Harbor and Port Clyde. The Marshall Point Lighthouse was marvelous to visit again too. Balsam Cottage was clean, comfortable, nestled in the nearby woods conveniently quiet and close to all desired activities. It's ample room, 4 bedrooms, 2 baths and fully furnished kitchen helped make our week long stay for 4 adults and 4 kids a true home-away-from-home experience. We loved the wifi and easy to climb ramp too for lugging bags and suitcases in and out. If this place ever lands on the market for sale I wanna know! ;-)

Home Away From Home
Simply stated, our family group of 8 retirees felt right at home with the amenities provided, especially the quiet, relaxed surroundings in the woods, yet within a few minutes walk to the water's edge on the bay and a local General Store (with live "lobstahs" also), bakery and restaurants and grills, one seasonal. The house was roomy, well laid out for ease of moving around especially with the full well stocked kitchen with all utensils needed. Each bedroom was more than adequate with room and comfort. Two bathrooms, one on each floor were a huge plus. The actual home location was within 10-15 minutes of several urban municipalities, which also provided anything we might need - some franchise and numerous, excellent and varietal local restaurants/lounges/grills/bars on, off and nearby the bays/water. The shopping selection was more than adequate in Rockland, Thomaston, Camden and Rockport with exceptional local stores. Also, we must mention museums, many art galleries, and a magnificent transportation museum at Owlshead. Savage Oakes Winery, Sweetgrass Winery and Distillery, The Happy Clam, Farnsworth Art Museum and Andrew Wyeth Center ~ Too many venues to mention everything here. Thank you for a fantastic "Home away from Home".

Everything was wonderful. The cabin was as described
We enjoyed the property and the location. This was our first trip to Maine so the rental property just made the trip well worth the drive. We will be coming back and more than likely rent the same property. Thank you

Better than expected
Home is tucked away in a peaceful forest setting just a minutes walk to the coast. Wrap around deck was perfect for morning coffee and evening star gazing. Multiple windows to let the sun in and cool breeze roll in. The sounds of bells from nearby lighthouses were very soothing with added relaxation.
Home was very spacious and very cozy.
Definitely within walking distance to general store and the happy clam restaurant in tenants harbor.
Highly recommend this home.
Special thank you to the owners for accommodating us!

Great Getaway!
There is nothing better than leaving a city and staying at a place like this quaint cottage. It was the perfect home base to go on day trips and come back to total quiet and calm. The house was clean and tidy and was the perfect place to stay. Also! In walking distance to a few places nearby including the General Store and East Wind Inn. Would come back in a flash!

Vacation Getaway to Remember
Tenant's Harbor was the perfect place for a relaxing getaway. The large home was in a wooded, private location and was clean, roomy, and very accomodating. The lobster pots in the kitchen were perfect for cooking the fresh lobster from Ann, the "fisherwoman", at the Cod End fish market. Kayaking with the seals in the harbor in Rockland was a real treat (Breakwater Kayak tours). Also, the abundant fresh blueberries in the summer were delicious and made the best pies (the pies were found at several area farmer's markets).
There were so many places to visit within a 1 hour drive that we would love to come back for another stay to see more of this beautiful area of Maine. Thank you, Miriam, for always being kind and accomodating whenever we spoke.

Wonderful
We had a wonderful time in Maine. As with the weather, the house was perfect! We loved walking around and enjoying the sights of the harbor, the short drive to Marshall's Point Lighthouse and catching the ferry to Monhegan Island. The lobster pot came in handy as we took advantage of the fresh lobster available. We look forward to coming back and staying again at the Balsam Cottage.
