Loved the castle building and the location, very friendly staff, nice atmosphere and an exceptionally good breakfast

Lovely old building, comfortable room, tastefully decorated, lovely snacks - coffee tea snacks refilled every day. We had to order breakfast the night before every day, which has its pros and cons. Friendly staff!
We had problems connecting to the WiFi… it wasn’t working in the room for us on our first night.

It’s gorgeous! It’s a castle! We loved the castle.
The property was amazing! The staff was lovely. The rooms were perfect. The breakfast was pretty bad. That’s the only issue we had.

Lovely staff, stunning setting & very comfortable rooms. Lovely breakfast, which you were able to preorder so it was ready for you when you came down to breakfast.
There was no bar but you were able to BYOB & there were glasses available along with ice & a fridge to keep your bottles in so it was actually perfect. Sitting by the fire having a few drinks after a busy day walking, was really lovely.

Breakfast was fine.
The mattress needs to be changed and properly fit the box spring. Although it did not bother us. Be warned the property does not have an elevator. The host kindly volunteered to carry our luggage.

Breakfast had a lot of choices including fresh fruit.
Having to make dinner reservations elsewhere. Would have been great to have been offered something such as charcuterie upon arrival.

What an experience staying in a castle! Great atmosphere and excellent breakfast!

Our family absolutely loved this 17th Century 'haunted' castle. The building and location near Oban were incredible. Delightful Veronica, an absolute treasure, made our stay at Barcaldine one we'll never forget. So cosy and comfortable. We had the Barcaldine Room. Also had a lovely dinner at The Hawthorn at Benderloch nearby, then back to Barcaldine for a night-cap (BYO) in front of the fire in the grand lounge with the other residents. There was a bit of hesitation heading to bed! Breakfast was delicious just to top off this wonderful stay. Can't wait to come back!!
I didn't get to meet the resident ghost, Donald Campbell, Laird of Barcaldine (my children did, they had the Caithness Room)

Everything! Staff were really nice, the castle is gorgeous, breakfast was delicious and we even got to sit in the great hall in the evening drinking whisky in front of the fire

Beautifully decorated castle set in lovely grounds with amazing mountain views.
Large terrace area to enjoy the gardens and surroundings.
Very comfortable bedroom with large bathroom and small turret dressing room. We had everything we needed and enjoyed the lovely selection of complimentary beverages and treats available.
Host was very welcoming and on hand to assist with anything we might need.
Nothing, would love to have stayed longer.

Breakfast excellent, staff helpful, lovely setting, despite being modernised they’ve managed to keep the original authenticity.
Having stayed in similar priced accommodation over the last few years compared to these Barcaldine was a little over priced for what it offered.

Booked through Haunted Rooms, hoping to see/hear a ghost, Sadly nothing. The host advised not haunted to her knowledge.

Somewhere special and different.
Bigger room with more power points would be good but do appreciate it is a very old castle!
4.8
This was an extraordinary place to be. We never find often B & Bs like that. The old interieur and athmosphare was great.
Next time the bar must be opened.
4.8
the bed was huge and very comfortable and the room was spacious with a large bright en suite bathroom with a roll top bath and large shower
one of the radiators in our room was not working properly and some of the light bulbs in our room needed replacing. The complimentary shower gel was empty and the bathroom sink was badly cracked.
The full Scottish Breakfast although plentiful was not very hot and we had to ask for cutlery , condiments and hot water for tea. The crystal glass I used for fruit juice had a large chip out of the rim. The service at breakfast was not as expected in a property targeted at the Luxury market.

The FIRE logs were NOT easy light

Great hotel with outstanding staff. Couldn't been any nicer or more supportive throughout our stay, helping out with my proposal arrangements. :)
The castle itself is well looked after and ideal for anyone looking for a unique experience

That we couldn't stay longer

The host is extremely helpful and kind. She put me at ease after a long, stressful day and ensured my one night stay was a dream. The castle itself was magical, so comfortable and cozy. I wish I'd stayed longer and will be sure to return.
Nothing. It was everything I'd hoped for.

Our stay at Barcaldine was a dream come true! Veronica was the most lovely host we could wish for, who helped us out with getting there from the village and made us feel right at home. The surroundings were beautiful, the room was incredible, every detail was tended to and the bed was heavenly. There were a lot of options for breakfast. Considering it's a real castle stay we found this to be really good value for money. I would not hesitate to come back and recommend to others! Thank you for a once in a lifetime experience!
nothing we didn't like
