A Wonderful Rustic Cottage on Skaneateles Lake

Pinewood is just as it states, relaxing. Our hosts couldn't have been better. Ask about the history of the cabin as it's a great story. The swimming is top notch! No weeds, smooth rock bottom. The stairs provide a good workout.
If you're lucky enough to be there for a Borodino VFD pancake breakfast you'll be very happy!

We love this property on the lake. A purely relaxing week with swimming, kayaking and watching our dog have the time of her life in the water. Thanks for sharing your special place.

This was our 2nd stay at the camp. rustic charm, quiet and a new dock that is great to hang out on! Our hosts are so friendly & live next door so any questions or problems are taken care of immediately. We cant wait to book it again for next year! ❤️

Returned to Skaneateles Lake 50 years after creating impossible to duplicate little kid memories. What a happy surprise and magical vacation! Our welcoming and down to earth hosts were lovely, informative and kind. Their well appointed cozy cabin is tucked steps from beautiful Skaneateles Lake. Kayaks await and mooring - we rented a pontoon boat to explore the spectacular lake - what fun! The village shops, restaurants and tour options are just right. All joy! We will be back!

Once again we had the perfect 2 weeks at the adorable cottage on the lake. There is a new dock that is absolutely world class and large enough to comfortably host a group of friends enjoying the sunset. As always our hosts were welcoming and there to help, but never ever intrusive. A very special place on one of the worlds most beautiful lakes!

Rustic cabin relaxing and a great beach
This was our second year visiting this perfect cabin in the woods. We loved the upgrades that were done. Great spot to relax and enjoy the Lake and close enough to town for a short trip in to enjoy the sights. Love this cottage and we plan on visiting again next year!!

Rustic Cabin in Beautiful Location
We had a rainy but wonderful week! Ken and Barbara are incredibly nice and helpful. The lake is breathtaking and our 3 boys enjoyed jumping off the dock, swimming and using the kayaks. It was very nice to be nestled in the woods, but still with a lot of amenities. We would highly recommend, especially for families!

We enjoyed our week at the Pinewood property located midway on beautiful Skaneateles Lake. Barbara and Ken were great hosts. As others have noted they are not intrusive but around if you need anything. The house is as described clean, neat, comfortable and pretty well stocked. It was a very humid week so the house got a little stuffy even with open windows and the fans on, however we spent the days out on the lake or visiting tourist spots. We slept comfortably at night. Also, as noted, the paths to the house and down to the water are a little steep and could be difficult to manage for less-abled or older visitors. Overall our stay was very pleasant and relaxing. Thank you!

My family and I had such a wonderful stay! Barbara and Ken were wonderful hosts and very attentive. We were greeted upon our arrival and any questions we had were answered immediately. This cottage was the perfect space for my family and our dogs. Skaneateles Lake is the cleanest and most beautiful lake I’ve ever seen and I can’t wait to come back next year!

A rainy but wonderful week!
We absolutely loved this little no frills, rustic cabin, (July 11-18, 2021) we didn't miss the air conditioning at all, surrounded by trees and plenty of fans made it pleasant! The hosts, Ken and Barbara are so nice, very friendly and helpful, we can't wait to stay again next year!

Fantastic cottage on possibly one of the most beautiful lakes in the world. Many water toys are available to the guests along with a wonderfully put together kitchen with all the appliances from home. The water is gorgeous and the owners are perfectly respectful of your privacy.. A little piece of Paradise!

Great cabin for a week at the lake
Great location on the lake with super friendly owners. Lake just steps from the front door! Our kids loved the lake, kayaks, and floating trampoline. Cabin is rustic but well cared for and everything we needed was provided. Barbara and Ken were very accommodating and Welcoming

Lovely
The property is lovely and simple. So easy to pack for since everything is included-even beach towels, bedding, and paper products! The lake is spectacular, the sunsets are stunning, and the owners are wonderfully social! The access to lake can be a little steep for elderly or folks with physical disabilities. However definitely still doable and worth the extra effort! Loved it! Thank you Barbara and Ken!

Had a great time!
We arrived at the cabin to find a plate of cookies and the table set for 5. What a wonderful way to start a vacation! The cabin was stocked with pretty much everything you need. We did bring a few of our own preferred utensils, although we could have gotten away with not bringing them. We had a very rainy week and with that being said, it was a very relaxing vacation. The guys managed to catch about 140 small mouth bass. Ken and Barbara were available if we needed anything, but never bothersome or intrusive. The lake was beautiful and not terribly busy. I sent a postcard via the mailboat, which was a nice experience. We used the kayaks, the fire pit, and the gas grill. The covered porch overlooking the lake was my favorite spot. The steps to get down to the lake are a bit steep so I wouldn’t recommend bringing small children. We had a wonderful time. Thanks, Barbara and Ken! Oh! And the sunsets were spectacular!

Classic camp with all the necessities
We have grown up around this lake in one camp of another so it was nice to find something we were used to being in. Old wood flooring, plenty of sleeping space, great covered porch and far enough off the road to feel secluded. We loved getting to know Ken and Barb and their families history on the lake. We feel as though we have made new friends to visit again. They make sure you're more than taken care of. The camp comes fully equipped! The plus was being able to bring our dog! Very nice spot to relax and read a book or entertain on the porch or indoors. These old camps are hard to find now so get in while you can!

Perfect location; excellent hosts!
At the risk of sounding too much like Goldilocks, this property is just right! It's not too rustic and not too modern, offering modern conveniences like a microwave and internet but with an old fashioned feel. It's not too far from town, but it's not too close either. It's nice to be away from hustle and bustle while still having grocery stores and restaurants close by. The hosts are friendly and helpful, but they also let guests enjoy their time without interruptions.
Three generations of us stayed at this cottage and all of us enjoyed it! We walked up the lane to enjoy a spectacular view of the surrounding area, picked berries, relaxed on the front porch and marveled at the view, greeted the mail boat from the dock, played in the lake, and made fantastic memories. I really cannot say enough about what Pinewood Cottage offers families. Skaneateles Lake is a lovely destination, and there's no place we'd rather stay than Pinewood Cottage.

Pinewood Cottage is a very nice, private cottage on beautiful Skaneateles Lake.
I just returned from a very relaxing week at Pinewood Cottage. I stayed with my wife, brother, sister, two nieces, and my two medium/large dogs. The only thing I wish I could have changed, would have been spending two or more weeks, instead of only one. Pinewood is private and peaceful. Always a nice cool breeze on the deck. Few mosquitoes. The lake was surprisingly quiet for this time of the year. Much less boat traffic compared to several different places we've rented on Owasco Lake. The cottage itself is very well stocked. Everything needed for cooking, eating, showering and sleeping was already there. All the beds were comfortable and everyone slept exceedingly well. Plenty of fans provided, if desired. Lots of room for dining and relaxing, both inside and out.
The dock was nice, and space was available for my canoe, and a power boat that we rented one day. There was plenty of room on the shore to leave my kayak. There are two parking spaces right next to the cottage. Lots of extra parking space available 100 feet or so from the cottage. The ability to walk up and down steps is necessary, especially to get to the lake/shoreline/dock.
Access to excellent swimming was paramount to us, and Pinewood Cottage did not disappoint. The water was always clear, weed free, and delightfully cool, but not too cold. The lake bottom is rocky, so water shoes were used by some, but not all. Approx four feet deep, 25 feet from shoreline.
Smallmouth bass fishing was excellent. I caught 13 while out on my friend's fishing boat one day, 10 more over a few different days from my kayak (within a 1/4 mile paddle from the cottage), and several smaller ones directly from the dock/shore. We caught a few 18 inch smallies, many in the 14-16 inch range, and two northern pike. Also caught a lake trout jigging in 90' deep water.
Owners Barbara and Ken were perfect hosts. Never intrusive, but available any time you need them. They greeted us upon our arrival with a plate of freshly baked cookies, a nice card, and two large dog treats. They spent about 5 minutes showing us around the cottage and grounds, and then left us alone for the remainder of the week.
Several good hiking areas are within 20-25 minutes. Skaneateles Conservation Area and Bear Swamp were favorites. Lots of room on the property above the cottage for the dog's regular bathroom duties.
Thank you Barbara and Ken. We'll be back the next time we visit Skaneateles Lake.

Just perfect!
This little cottage is nestled in the woods with a lovely view of the lake. The owners are just wonderful. Barbara baked us a plate of cookies, which were especially welcome after our 6+ hour drive. They were wonderful neighbors, available and helpful when we wanted and nearly invisible when we wanted to be by ourselves. It felt like we were staying in the guest house of old friends.
The house is an old hand-built cabin with few frills, but a nice open kitchen, decent sized dining table, and living room overlooking the lake. The covered front patio was our favorite place to sit and take in the fantastic view. There's no beach, but easy access to the lake for swimming. The water is bracing, but crystal clear (it's the water supply for Skaneateles). While there are motor boats in the lake, they mostly steer clear of the shore so swimming feels very safe and relaxing. The beds are comfortable and the cottage had everything we needed. It's by no means fancy, but it feels very authentic. You can imagine people sitting in the cabin 50 years ago doing exactly what you are doing (minus the cable TV and WiFi). And the mail boat really is fun. Also, the house is a real bargain, reflecting the lack of (utterly superfluous) frills. We loved this home and hope to return soon.

Great location, fantastic welcome.
This cottage and location was perfect for our family holiday, we were able to completely relax and enjoy the peace and quiet of the lakes. We arrived very late but Barbara and Ken were there to welcome us and explain everything. Throughout our stay they could not have been a more friendly couple and encouraged our 3 young children to "just have fun"... which they did! The cottage was very clean and cozy and had everything we needed. The lake was crystal clear and ideal and safe for swimming from the deck. The cottage is not easy to find at first and we would recommend bringing any provisions you need for the stay, park the car and just enjoy the location without having to go anywhere. Thank you both for such a great stay. We hope to be back when we are in the USA again.

Wonderful week, lovely owners
We chose this cottage because it has so many great reviews, and after spending a restful week there, I can confirm that the reviews are accurate. The owners are next door down a small path and are extremely helpful and accommodating. We felt welcome from the moment we arrived. This clean, cozy, rustic little cottage has everything you need - sheets, towels, cookware, internet service (not that we used it), an outdoor grill, picnic table, beach chairs and local TV. I'd recommend this place to anyone who doesn't require a 5-star hotel. Barbara and Ken are 100%, 5-star owners, and we miss them already! Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for allowing us to stay in your lovely cottage. Our dog Banjo misses you too!!!!

Great location at the right price
This was our first lake rental, and the owner was great to work with as we prepared for the trip. Always friendly and patient to answer questions. He's a font of great information about the lake and the area.
We have a 20-yr old, 17-yr old, and almost 4-yr old. Traveling with a family that size, it can be tough to find a lakefront property in our price range. This was comparable price to a motel but the location can't be beat. We enjoyed a campfire on the lake front in front of the owner's property, skipping rocks, and chilling on the porch. The mailboat was definitely a highlight as other reviews have mentioned.
As other reviewers have said, the cottage isn't fancy, but it's well-stocked. Our only issue is that we have one child who's particularly sensitive to dust, so she couldn't use any of the blankets provided in the cottage. We ended up buying a new one for her. Something to keep in mind. Our 4-year old was able to navigate the property and steps down to the lake without any problem.
There's a picnic table on the front porch where we ate most of our meals. I did have a hard time with getting an even cooking temperature in the oven, but there's a toaster oven option, and the cooktop was fine. We tend to travel different places every year, but if a return to Skaneateles ends up on our radar, we'd definitely visit again.

private, peaceful, beautiful views
My family has been renting this cottage for many years, and it's a quiet gem. Not fancy, but comfortable, with timeless knotty pine decor and the best porch in the world (one end open-air, one shaded, both with magnificent views of the lake). Mailboat in the morning (greeted by landlord and great neighbor Ed) and beautiful sunsets at night. Swimming is great if you like your water cold and crystal clear. Not much beach, but there's a great dock for sunbathing. There are stairs from the driveway to the cabin, onto the porch, and from the cabin to the lake. LOTS of woods and genuine privacy. A classic vacation getaway!
