This cabin was perfect for an extended family vacation. The location is remote enough to enjoy some quiet time and enjoy the surroundings, but close enough to venture out for hiking, fishing, and beer/wine tasting. The bedrooms are well situated so we weren't on top of each other. The covered porch and rocking chairs were the best part of the house!
10.0
We loved this place! Location, furnishings, space, everything! Would love to go back.

We loved the house and the property! The drive there was longer then expected, but the directions were exact. We put balloons at the end of the driveway because it's slightly hidden. The house was beautiful! Loved the bedroom to bathroom ratio, which made it perfect for several families to share. The fridge needs updated, but it still worked out. The back porch and fire pit were huge hits for everyone! We will definitely be rebooking in two years!

The property was nestled in the woods, with plenty to do in the surrounding area! The house was stocked with everything you could possibly need.
It was beautifully decorated, charming, and exceptionally clean!l
Our family would definitely visit here again!

We loved the remoteness and rustic feel of the property/house! Great in accommodating our group of 12 - loved sitting on the front porch and lighting the fire pit. We were there for three nights and we did not watch the tv once - testament to how much fun we were having as a family. We also hiked and walked and visited vineyards, ciders and breweries! All in all, the property/house gave us the perfect platform and environment to have a very memorable 3 nights! Recommend without reservation, unless you want something more luxurious and a pool.

The cabin was perfect! All who were with me couldn't stop commenting on its charm and calm. The location is remote, but that is its charm - connecting with family and friends without distractions. The exterior is nature's beauty; and the interior is modern and accommodating without loosing the aesthetics of the primitive yesteryears.
We booked this VRBO to accompany our long weekend wine tour itinerary. Excellent! We can honestly say we would not change a thing - other maybe we needed to book a longer stay.

We booked a two-night stay for weekend getaway. We found the cabin to be the perfect spot to take advantage of all that the region has to offer and a special vacation destination in and of itself. It's a lovely space in perfect harmony with its surroundings. Everything was as advertised and owners were communicative and easy to work with. Highly recommend!

Thank you for a wonderful weekend in the woods! Despite having rainy weather, we enjoyed ourselves -- the fire was cozy, the walks in the forest made us happy, and we enjoyed the quiet.

We had a great time with our group of three families. We found the house to be a perfect blend of new and old. It had all of the modern appliances we needed, but we also enjoyed using the woodstove and fireplace. We hiked right from the house on the grounds and our kids were outside the entire weekend. The kitchen layout is definitely from another era, so it was a bit challenging having the sink on its own while cleaning up from larger meals. We didn't mind, but it might bother others. We loved the cabinet full of sheets for all of the beds. It was so nice that we did not need to bring our own linens. All in all a great experience and we are planning to return!

Perfect place to stay for the weekend and enjoy the nearby VA wineries. The house is incredible and loved the seclusion in the woods.

Very remote cabin getaway with plenty of space for everyone. We enjoyed our trip there, kids played all over the woods and us adults sat in rockers on the porch and caught up with each other. The cabin has some amazing features, and some quirky ones too, but everything worked and we were comfortable.

Great property, very secluded, everything as-advertised. A lot of character without being kitschy about it. Would stay again, everyone had a great time.

We spent a few days in this warm and inviting cabin. There was plenty of room for our group of 13 (6 kids). The porch swing was the kids' favorite, and everyone enjoyed having meals outside. It is a great location for fishing, hiking, and songs around the campfire. We would most certainly come back!!!

Pretty spot perched on the side of a mountain. Quaint double-cabin with modern amenities. In between the Route 151 and Route 29 corridors in Nelson County. Enjoyed our stay. Great family time. Played games, cooked meals. The only downside is the 15 minutes to get down the mountain, though the gravel road was in good condition and the trip gorgeous each time! We traveled each day to the many restaurants, wineries, cideries and the cool Crozet Tunnel, so the distance down the mountain did not slow us down. A great spot in the mountains. We would return again for the firepit when not in July-August.

very impressed with cabin, the porch was great, water pressure and hot water great, the A/C very impressed
it has the most comfortable rocking chair I have ever sat in(it has no arms and is low)the road to the cabin is well kept
overall it was easy to visit and stay

Such a gorgeous clean property! We loved the place so much we enjoyed just being is such a tranquil environment. Drives to breweries, wineries and hiking trails were within 20-30 minutes. Susan gives you so much info about unique aspects of the property we had no questions! We truly cannot wait to return again.

This cabin was a perfect fit for our large group of 15. Between the roomy common areas and the porch and fire pit seating we never felt like we were on top of each other. If anyone felt the need to have their own private, quiet space then the bedrooms provided an escape as they are well separated from not only the living areas but also each other. The layout is very smart and comfortable. The youngest kids in our group loved the "secret" bedroom! The cabin is very clean and has absolutely everything you need. The overall feel is of a place that's been in the family for generations rather than a temporary vacation rental. Working wood stoves and hand-hewn logs provide authentic old mountain cabin vibes but air conditioning, satellite TV and wifi mean you certainly aren't roughing it! The location is well off the beaten path and completely private but a reasonably short drive to the Blue Ridge Pkwy/Skyline Drive for our daily hiking excursions. I highly recommend this place to outdoor lovers and those who want to get away from it all!

Susan's place was a perfect place for me to gather with my children, their significant others, and grandchildren. The house was as advertised! it was secluded and quiet and the kitchen came fully appointed with pots, pans, utensils, plates, silverware, you name it. We cooked all our meals at the house and had everything we needed. Thank you Susan for letting us stay in your peaceful, mountain cabin.

Super time had by all. A group of 10 women celebrating a 60th and a 40th birthday. Cabin a nice gathering spot. Love the glass openess between 2 cabins and the fireplace. We enjoyed 3 wineries one day, hiked up the mountain one day and enjoyed a dinner in Charlottesville. Be aware that driveway up to cabin would not be fun in snow or bad weather. We had beautiful weather but did have 4 cars which can be tricky to park and turn around at top.

We are returners and plan to come again...and again. Well appointed and spacious. Very private yet still conveniently located. We love it here

It was perfect for 4 families looking to explore Charlottesville.

The cabin is amazing-- wonderful location, roomy yet very cozy at the same time. My non-profit organization brought our staff of 16 here for two nights for our fall staff retreat. We enjoyed excellent fires and board games in the living room in the evenings, and productive strategic planning sessions during the day. The beautiful setting and sense of being away really fueled our creativity and success.

This property was better than advertised. It was beautifully set in the mountains of Virginia. The historic elements were a bonus. There was plenty of room for my whole family. Contacting the property owner was simple.

Absolutely undeniable perfect. Want to rebook for exact time next year.

This was the perfect property for my group of 17. We stayed from a Friday - Sunday. This was a beautifully put together cabin with authentic appliances, furnishings, etc. We felt like we were in another time. There was plenty of space inside and outside for everyone to spread out. The owner had excellent communication and responded quickly. We never needed anything other than what we brought. We would definitely stay here again and would definitely recommend to others.
Thank you so much for an awesome memory and experience to start my birthday month!

I surprised my wife and her twin sister for a weekend getaway with our children and grandkids. My wife’s birthday is Halloween. We dressed up and had a great time. Apple picking, winery and breweries all close by. The host answered every question we had and was very responsive. A neat adventure for sure!!

Owner was so accommodating and responsive despite overnight power outage caused by hurricane storms

Amazing stay on heards mountain. The house and entire property were perfect for bringing our family together. Beautiful house with incredible character and details. The glass doors in the living space were so cool and the deck abs fire pit area were just perfect on a gorgeous fall weekend. There are trails right at the end of the driveway too which was a wonderful surprise! We will definitely be back!

This place is an absolute gem. The description of it on the page is very accurate, only its even more magical in person. The combination of the old cabin and 100 year old fridge and wood burning stove in the kitchen give this place so much charm, while the modern amenities (dishwasher, central heat/ac, etc) make this place very comfortable. The middle room with the wall of window doors that open up were especially enjoyed in the perfect fall weather(no bugs!) and we kept them open during the day. The fire pit was also greatly enjoyed in the comfortable adirondack chairs. We will definitely come back, thank you for having us!

Definitely a win for us and would love to stay there again. Owner is super responsive and helpful leading up to the stay (ours was a last minute booking for the following week and we had no issues at all). Plenty to do in the area (fish, hike, swim etc) or just relax at the cabin (plenty of space and rooms, love the breeze way in the middle). Thank you Susan for the stay and the experience!

Our group was 3.5 couples. Everyone had plenty of personal space (bedrooms and bathrooms) The living area, eating area, porch and fire pit are comfortable and spacious for everyone to be together. If I had to state a negative, it would be that the refrigerator is tiny. We shopped for big breakfasts at the cabin and a couple dinners. Luckily we had brought a cooler for the overflow.
