The property met our needs. We were centralized to all of the activities which we took advantage of.

Enjoyed our stay!
3.4
We all enjoyed the visit. The area is beautiful. However the house has a lot of flaws. Generally it needs an overall redo. The flooring in the kitchen has gaps where the planks are not flush, the handrails to the decks are loose in some areas. Personally I think all the decks need replacing. The sliding doors need a real lock rather than metal rods. The smaller bathroom needs the shower head and pipe fixed (a temporary fix was done by us) and the handle for the water access falls off. There needs to be a ladder or stool so those of us who are vertically challenged can use the hot tub. The closets are chock-a-block with items so they are of no use. Some of the small appliances do not work at all or barely work. A general deep cleaning would be a good idea. The access to the beach is treacherous. You need to climb up through the dunes and the down the dunes to get to the beach. This should have been pointed out. We tried several accesses. Yes, the beach is 5 minutes away if you are young. We made do with what we had and did have a great trip!

Great place for price!

Other than a note from Cythia and Chesley with Hatteras helping hands informing us that the previous tenant trashed the place and broke a bedroom lap plus dishwasher is full. We chose to bring our own linen and was very shocked to see that none of the beds had been stripped. There was blood on sheets in 2 bedrooms and what appeared to be urine stains on 3rd bedroom. Had to strip the beds (put dirty linen in laundry room) and remake them. I really can't put blame on the owner for they had hired the cleaning people to insure things were okay. The kitchen, bathrooms and living room were clean. Living room suit could use a uodate. I will note that there was extensive work done on the steps and outlook tower, found these to be new and very sturdy. The hot tub was marvelous! All in all we had a good time and would stay here again.
3.4
It was pretty good other then not having ac in the living room. We had to go buy some extra fans to keep the air circulating.
3.4
The A/C was out, they put portable units in the bedrooms. Enough animal fur around everything to construct an animal. Management rude!
3.4
I really don’t want to give a poor review because any day at the beach is a good day. However, our stay had issues. These issues seem to be consistent throughout the other reviews. I have found a pattern with the owners contacting guests 2 days before their stay to report an issue. Our major issue was with the AC. And apparently it has been reported to owners as not working properly for awhile! So our decision to go ahead with our vacation was not one we had much choice. They placed mini AC units in 3 of the 4 bedrooms. They worked to cool off the rooms to 74-75 only at the coolest part of the night. But, this was only 3 bedrooms. For the interior area it hovered around 80 during the day. With the very old ceiling fan on high all the time and one box fan from the 80’s (falling apart), we tried to strategically place so it would draw the air from one of the AC units to the middle living area. We tried to make the best of an uncomfortable situation because honestly it was like a ‘camping type’ feel to this situation. With the humidity coming in through the open gap in windows from AC units being placed, to the sticky grimy feel on everything.
The minor issues in the house are still the same as previous reviews. Not much has changed. Laundry area VERY unclean. Ice maker doesn’t work. Trash in yard. House sways. Missing spindles on deck. Mop and bucket left on deck. Lightbulbs burned out. Remote batteries missing or not working. Would love to get some money back!

The good: The house is close to the beach, the rates are reasonable, lovely little beach house. We were able to speak with owner and property management about issues. There were no bugs that we saw during our 6 day stay (this was mentioned in previous reviews). The owner did refund us one day due to looking for a new place to stay and finding a solution to our problem, which we were able to do by ourselves. The bad: the A/C was not working when we arrived. It was 83 degrees in the house upon arrival. We called the property management company and they said they know that the owner was having issues with the A/C. The owner called later to let us know that an air conditioning technician would be coming out that evening or the next day. An air conditioning technician did come late on the following day. We were vacationing with my father-in-law who is in his 80s and the heat was definitely a concern for us. as well as the general uncomfortableness of it reaching almost 90° daily. The owner graciously offered us a refund for our stay but that would also mean that we would need to find another location in July when it is impossible to find a new rental. I spent the most of one day, trying to find another location somewhere close to the beach. This is important to us because we’re not sure if we were to get another vacation with my father-in-law. My husband managed to find a portable air conditioner, which we purchased and used during our stay. This home has potential but needs care

The house has some flaws. But this is to be expected from an older beach house. The location is great! The price point is great! We had some some AC issues but the management company was diligent in trying to find a solution.

The “updates” that the listing talks about are close to none. The place has an insane leak above the fireplace. The whole wall ended up being soaked by the end of our 3 night stay. The provided NO paper towels, toilet paper, or anything for dishes except one dishwasher pod just so you know before going. The washer and dryer room is almost impossible to get into and it is a hazard in there. Nails on the floor and so much material left from cabinets and other construction type things. We killed SO many roaches while here… the grill downstairs was disgusting. The outside shower had boards falling off of it. Lastly the deck and railings had nails sticking out all over and were so slippery from all the grime growing on them. The place is still falling apart in so many ways. But hey at least it was cheap…
3.4
Quiet neighborhood. Pleasant stay. 2022 remodel seems to have been successful. The house has losts of Outer Banks character. Central location in Salvo, NC allowed us to do day trips to both the north and to the south. Overall a great stay and great vacation.

I was skeptical to rent this property due to the previous less than stellar reviews. However, I read through the each review and the owners responses about renovations being cumbersome. Being that I am a sucker for second chances, I took a leap of faith and rented the property. I am happy to say, this property was well cleaned, beautiful, and in a great location for a more than reasonable price. Bernie was quick to communicate with me, we had fresh towels, linens, and one of the best stocked kitchens for a vacation rental that I had ever seen.
Yes, the property is your typical older beach home, with typical beach house furnishings, but we did not have any issues. We came to sight see, and enjoy board games, chess, and cards during the evenings. It was a vacation for family togetherness, solitude for the rigorous of everyday life, and we found that here.
Thank you for a great vacation location, with no issues! I hope this encourages others to rent and enjoy the house, hot tub, and beautiful views of the sunrise over the ocean!
3.4
This property really shouldn’t be a rental. To say it is in ROUGH shape is an understatement. The only positive of this rental is the location. It is a very short walk to the beach along a pathway. The house itself is all overgrown and has an unmowed lawn, support beams that aren’t even attached to the house (making it shake constantly), decks in VERY bad shape with nails sticking out and rotten boards, railings falling off, water damage inside, DirectTV and wifi that doesn’t work, cockroaches, no outside lighting, old construction debris laying all over, hot tub was not cleaned or kept up (very low water, filled with sand, and no chlorine tablets). .
There is no real protocol of how and when to contact the owner. Information on the listing is incorrect. There is no rental agency who takes care of the property making it a very sketchy process with the owners. No instructions on how to get the keys. We arrived with no cell phone number of the owner and took them a while to respond to us when we arrived and found out there were no towels for us and the coffee pot didn’t work. Washing machine broke on day 3 of us being there and only using it twice. Owners never could get it fixed while we were there, so we had to use a laundromat. Then the owners filed a claim with the travel liability insurance we bought for a $500 repair on a 20 year old washing machine. For real?
Do not waste your money! This place should be condemned! It’s unsafe and THAT BAD!
3.4
Paradise NOT Found-
AC broken, holes in the walls, bugs and mold and mildew under the kitchen sink, porch unsafe- rotten boards, nails protruding, uneven. Light switch leading to main porch covered in bird feces. Grill was left full of ashes, grate crusty and broken. The under-house area was littered with trash, bag of dog poo left under the porch, broken chairs, toys. Scaffolding thrown against fence. Shower was dirty with poor water pressure. Landscaping overgrown and grass uncut. Trash full and maggoty.
3.4
This listing needs to be removed. Yes, it’s that bad
Was notified one day before check in that there’d be no sheets or towels. Bernie asked us to wait past check in time to arrive, so they could clean. We waited as long as we could and the house was still not cleaned. Hair on the toilets and toothpaste on the sinks. Un wiped countertops. Rotten breast milk in the fridge. Slug on a dirty dish rag. THE COFFEE MACHINE WAS STILL ON. House is falling apart and unsafe for children. Exposed nails on porch railing and nails all over the ground. Exposed insulation. Very bad water damage under bedroom windows facing the ocean. Majority of the outlets do not work, and one sparked when removing a charger. House rocks so bad the water from the hot tub splashes out. Awful communication w the host. Step it up.

Not worth it. Don’t waste your money here.
This property is in bad shape. I reserved this place 6 month early. TWO DAYS before my stay the owner emailed me stating his place was not fully ready for us. Laundry was not working and still under construction. Did not have enough time to get another place. This place is DIRTY, beds and bed sheets not clean, blood was found on one of them. There were roaches in the house and smelled like wet dog. slept with the lights on after my husband fixed the light in the room we were staying. This owner knew our plans to celebrate my son’s graduation and my parents anniversary in his property, but he seems a cold person didn’t care. Only spent one horrific night and I was charged for that. Don’t waste your time and money reserving this place. Not worth it!

We rented this property and a few days before we flew out we got a message that we were unable to stay at this property. They said they had sent a email prior saying it might be unavailable but we never did receive that email. So we had to find a new house to rent 3 days before me and my family of 8 flew across the United States. It was very frustrating so I’m not sure why I’m getting messages asking me how my stay was. We didn’t get to stay at all.

House was good, recent reviews accurate. We knew it wasn’t going to be perfect and enjoyed our stay.
3.4
We had a wonderful stay and would rent again. Quiet and safe neighborhood, quick walk to beach, beautiful views of both ocean and bay from crows nest deck and additional large deck on back with wonderful large hot tub though some of the “bells and whistles” on it are no longer working. Older place, with some cabinetry and siding needing repairs, but did not feel unsafe in the structure. Some outdoor decking and stairs have been updated. Plenty of room with 4BR/2BR. Low price point outweighs all the “issues” for cost conscious travelers like us!

Very much a beach house.
House was good, recent reviews accurate. We knew it wasn’t going to be perfect and enjoyed our stay.

The layout is great for a large family or 2 separate small groups, the location is exactly where we wanted to be, and the hot tub and roof deck were nice to have at night to see the stars. There are a lot of things cosmetically wrong with the place (see the other reviews), but we spent very little time actually in the house except to sleep.

The house fit our needs. However, as other reviewers have stated, there seems to be a lot of maintenance and major home repair needed. There is a lot of old water damage and the ceiling is a mess. We walked in at check in to chunks of the popcorn ceiling on the counter and floor of the kitchen. The house sways anytime anyone is walking up the stairs or from room to room. The kitchen counter is being held up by the dishwasher and several cabinets are unusable. The beds in the house are not queen sized as advertised.
The good news is the water is hot and the AC is cold. Kitchen appliances work. Washer and dryer work. The walk to the beach is short but the dune is pretty steep (not homeowner or property management's area to influence). There are games and books to entertain kids.
While it did fit our last minute 9 person booking, we don't intend to stay again without seeing better reviews and updates.

The house is a bit dated but has its charm- loved the location and hot tub. Towels were provided. Wish there had been cleaning supplies provided tho, we had to bring our own soap for the bathrooms and kitchen, as well as wipes, etc. the vhs collection is very retro and awesome

Overall, I was happy with the rental considering the price I paid. There was plenty of room for our group of 6 adults and one child. The beach was a short walk away with two access points on either side of the house behind it. You just have to walk along the wooden fence.
If you can overlook the cosmetic issues like the dated styling and water damage, it's a great beach rental. However, there are some annoying issues that need to be dealt with.
The shower needs a handle because the temperature is impossible to control without a knife or flathead tool. I learned that the hard way. I jumped in the shower when I first arrived to boiling hot water and had no way to turn it down without running to the kitchen for a knife.
The owners also need to fix the electric outlets. Many of them don't work. I thought there was something wrong with the toaster, but just needed to plug into a different spot. Same thing with many of the other outlets around the house. My laptop died as I chose a dead outlet for charging it. Many of the outlets are old and needs replacing as your plug will just fall out when you try to plug it in.
We could not get the Dish TV to work. We resorted to watching some VHS tapes that were available. The DVDs did work, but the player had issues loading. The CRT TVs really need to be updated with flat screens.
I was glad that the dishwasher did work even though you need to get the counter lifted a bit to get it shut. It doesn't latch to lock the door but still runs.
The price was right for the size and location of the house. My brothers rented other houses in the neighborhood and paid more than twice the price with a much longer walk to the beach.
There was plenty of stock in the kitchen for me to cook all my meals. You couldn't ask for a better view from the deck on the roof. That alone made up for the minor inconveniences within the house.

In all, not a bad stay. Nothing was unexpected for a stay at the beach at a reasonably priced rental house. All of the complaints from past commenters are accurate but sound like nit picking. It’s a beach rental with all of the amenities that could be needed. Had to ask for towels as there were none at check in, but they were delivered promptly. The rental company and owners worked to resolve internet and TV outages. The beach access isn’t easy to find, but the neighborhood was nice and the beach, of course, was incredible. It’s a fine place for the price.
