Our stay was so good we started talking about coming back as soon as we got there. The property is unlike any other. A true hidden gem Bob, the caretaker is in the area is lend a hand if necessary. Thank you to Host John for sharing such a breathtaking location with the rest of us

The pictures don’t do the property and cabin justice. What a dream! The trails around the cabin were a blast to explore with the dogs. The best part was swimming in the pond and spending the evenings on the deck. We would love to come back and stay longer next time! Big shout out to John for renting out this great spot.

We managed to be lucky enough to book this cabin just as all of the leaves turned so it was like being in a painting. The land is beautiful to walk and the views are amazing. The cabin itself is very cozy and has great character. The kitchen was very convenient and I loved cooking on that stove, and the bathroom was clean and well kept as well. It was great to unplug, read, and relax for a while. Hopefully we will be able to go back again.

This place is perfection. No complaints at all about the lodge and the amenities provided. Great price, great location, everything about this place was just wonderful. Would strongly recommend if you're comparing places that you just choose this lodge. You won't regret it!
VRBO Issues:
Had some minor issues with the external process and incorrect information on the page listing, but both matters were resolved promptly.
It should be noted that after you pay and make a reservation you're asked to send a copy of your government ID, but VRBO platform doesn't support securely sharing this information. This is a VRBO problem and not an owner problem as the request itself is not unreasonable.
Also, there's a $50 cleaning fee but visitors are required to clean the lodge themselves--honestly for the value price of this amazing lodge, it's not really an issue, but it still should be noted, because you're contractually obligated to be your own cleaning crew--yet contractually obligated to pay for one.

We love everything about the property. This is our second year in a row staying here. We love the remoteness. Has everything you need. It’s a beautiful place to get away and relax. We’ll be back!

We loved staying at this cabin, though there were a couple things we wish we'd known before checking in. The first was that there is a very steep and narrow spiral staircase to get to three of the door bedrooms. We knew this going in because of another review but it would be nice to have a picture. The second is that there is a very high well wall (about two and a half feet to get into the shower which wasn't a problem for us but could be for folks with limited mobility. That said, we had a great time! The pond was beautiful and the perfect temperature for swimming, our teenage daughter enjoyed walking the trails around the property, the kitchen was stocked with everything we might need, beds were comfortable, and it was the perfect place to disconnect. John was great about answering my many questions, and we loved looking up at the clearest stars we had ever seen. We've been to many cabins over the years, and this was a favorite.

This is way overdue but we had an amazing few days last summer in this very comfortable, thoughtfully built home. Highlights include: Comfortable beds, fireplace, clearing around house to enjoy views of trees and pond, trails surrounding property, friendly knowledgeable caretaker, easy to use/understand solar generator, pre-trip directions and guidance from owner, and being OFFLINE. Wouldn't change a thing. Thank you!

Loved all trails around the property for the husky.

The cabin is located in an area where Google maps can't be used. We arrived during day light and were grateful for it because we had to follow written instructions to get there. The cabin is very nice and it is exactly as the pictures depict it. The staircase is very narrow and it is difficult to bring up luggage.
The only things we didn't love were that the internet was not working at all during our stay and we had zero phone signal.
I also didn't like that we had to provide our own linens. I had to ask for king size sheets as a special request and the owner did arrange for them to be there which I appreciated.
The house rules also ask guests to clean the unit (sweep, vacuum, dust etc). There were no cleaning supplies or rags to clean and the vacuum was useless. I messaged the host but didn't hear from him.
In my humble opinion, cleaning services should be left to an outside service and not guests.
Not all guests will do a thorough clean.

Just a magical well kept piece of property with a home that matches. My wife and I have never revisited a vacation / getaway destination as we like to continually experience new places, but we both agreed that this is one that we will be regularly visiting. So many wonderful memories in just 2 days.

The Cabin is lovely, very cozy and comfortable. There was plenty of space for me, my two teenage sons, and our dog. There are plenty of trails and things to see right on the property. We very much enjoyed spending time just hanging out outside. It was a wonderful home base to explore the local attractions. No issues at all with the electricity or hot water, and everything in the kitchen worked well. The cabin may be off grid, but everything is well built and works as it should. Absolutely charming. Highly recommended, unplug and live life for a while!

From the moment we walked inside we knew it was going to be the perfect vacation for us. The property is secluded and blissful, including just the basics (fridge, propane stove/oven, and a shower) which was all we needed. The private pond beyond the back yard was where we spent the most time with our dog. She absolutely loved it and we took her home after the last day the most tired she’s ever been! All in all the property was absolutely breathtaking! If you’re looking for a calm, relaxed and slowed down life for a few days; this is the place!!
Thank you John!!

Perfect cabin in the woods. Truly, this property is about the only thing I want out of life. Absolutely peaceful. Tucked away in the woods far enough that if the rest of civilization collapsed, you may not realize it. The cabin is a few miles down a dead end dirt road and then down another 1/4 or so mile driveway. The property is huge and completely surrounded by woods. Complete privacy here. The cabin itself is off grid. There is a gas stove/oven and refrigerator. Solar panels and and a backup propane generator keep the lights on and the well pump running. The pond at the bottom of the hill is a great place to take a swim and the kids loved going in. If you are looking for a getaway in the northeast kingdom woods and escaping the world for a bit while still having some basic conveniences, I could not think of a better place. I hope to have a place like this myself eventually. We hope to stay again and thank you for sharing your home with us!

Our stay at the cabin was great. Have to say was a little skeptical about being off grid, but this was an awesome experience. It gave our family opportunity to focus on time together and not other amenities. We ate all meals outside, enjoyed the views, nature, and just being quiet. We would recommend thus place to anyone that just wants a quiet and peaceful place to hang out with friends or family. Owner was great in answering any questions we had. Thanks for great stay.

The cabin was beautiful and the scenery was even better! This was a great experience for my nephews who lives in the Midwest and doesn’t get to see Mountain Views!
I can’t wait to go again!
Planning for a weekend getaway after my wedding!

One of those situations that the product is absolutely what is advertised. Completely isolated and breathtaking. The property was thoughtfully constructed in all regards and fulfills all expectations. Completely appreciate the stay and cannot say enough great things about the overall experience!!

Pros:
- The property is stunning. Absolutely beautiful views. Dog friendly. Large spaces to run, play, swim. Trails to explore. Perfect secluded getaway, especially to view fall foliage.
- Bob, the caretaker, was very friendly/helpful. He met us at the cabin, showed us what to do if the power went out.
- Directions provided by the owner were helpful in finding the property (Church Road is the same as Church Street).
Cons:
- The owner needs some lessons in the customer service department.
- Everything about the property, to include the fact it is very rustic, is clearly laid out in all of the correspondence. Everything is clear except one feature thats not described or captured in a photo - a very tight, narrow spiral staircase to access 3 of the 4 bedrooms (to include the king size bed.) This may not be problematic for most, but for some it might and it should be noted in the description/photos.
- I sustained an injury the week prior to our trip, that made this staircase inaccessible for me to use. As well as made the 3 foot high stone wall to get in the shower challenging (there is no picture showing this either.)
- I pointed this out to the owner right after our arrival as something he may want to mention in his listing so others can be aware of and plan accordingly. Initially he apologized for the ‘confusion/misunderstanding’ (which this was neither, this was just a miss in the description all together) and asked if there was anything he could do. When I left it to his discretion if he wanted to provide any partial refund for not being able to use the bed that we brought sheets for, he got very rude and disrespectful telling me that ‘my injury was not his problem and he in no way suggests the property is handicap accessible’ and ‘was not sure why I thought he should be making accommodations as a result of my injury’. (Even though he is the one that asked if there was anything he could do). He gave us the option to leave early and he would issue a full refund, but if youve traveled to this area before you know it’s difficult to find a rental on the spot. Unable to find another location, we had to stay the 2nd night of our stay. If you have any needs or critiques for this owner, be prepared for dealing with someone that’s unnecessarily rude.
- Finally, the rental agreement states “There is no cleaning service. You are it.” - but I was charged a $50 cleaning fee. Prepare to pay the owner for you to be responsible for the cleaning.

My family of 5 (kids aged 12,9,2.)and dog were lucky enough to stay at The Cabin over Labor Day Weekend, This place is amazing! The house itself is well designed. It was clean and cozy. The beds we comfy and everyone slept well, even our 2yr old who wakes before the sun slept in! Sitting on the front porch drinking coffee and watching the ducks swim was the perfect way to start the day. Durring the day we spent hours playing in the pond and enjoying the well-maintained walking trails. There is also a cute corn maze/Ice cream shop a few minutes from the cabin. One of our favorite parts of the cabin was the layout of the downstairs living area. We were able to cook in the kitchen while also being able to see and have conversations with our children in the living room, where they enjoyed the HUGE bin of Legos and quietly reading in front of the fireplace. Have you ever gone multiple days without your kid's bickering or wanting to use electronics? It happened here, this place is magic!
We can't wait for our next visit.

This was our third consecutive year staying here. It's simply just too fantastic to consider spending our summer vacation elsewhere. The fact that the cabin was close to KT (we're mtn bikers) and allowed a dog was what first drew us year. The fact that John's cabin and property is simply amazing is what has brought us back 3 years in a row. We find new stuff to explore in the area every time we come back. Thank you, again.

Our family of 5 (2 adults, 2 children ages 7 and 5) and our dog stayed at the cabin and it is a slice of heaven. It is incredibly private and the property is so wide and seemingly endless so there was so much space for our family to enjoy the outdoors especially our dog! There is an approximately quarter mile loop around the man-made pond which was where our family spent a lot of time walking, running and relaxing around the pond. We also enjoyed sitting by the fire pit- This is really such a gem of a spot!
The cabin was really cozy; there were plenty of options for sleeping and our girls especially loved the room with the bunk beds! The kitchen was great for cooking and plenty of seating at the two different counter tops around the kitchen as well as the dining room table. The living room area was a cozy sitting area and it was great to sit out on the deck and take in the scenery.
We would definitely stay at this cabin again - highly recommend.

This magical
Property is a nature lovers dream. The kids and our dog had so much fun exploring and just being in the woods. No cell phones, no devices, just pure joy. S’mores by the fire pit, swimming and exploring the pond. Lake Willoughby and Sentinel Rock are so worth the scenic drive. We found some incredible trails. I can’t wait to come back when the kids are ready for Kingdom Trails. Thank you John for sharing your cabin. We still can’t believe you built it. Love the album with pictures of how it all began. Sad to go but grateful for the memories.

The location and the surrounding of the cabin is breathtaking. The cleanliness of the cabin was questionable it looked like we just went into a family’s home that happened to be not home. No towels and no sheet were a big inconvenience. Traveling from Florida with kids I suppose to bring my own linens and towel. When we got there the little town had nothing open and Walmart was 50 miles away to purchase anything. We paid top dollars for 3 days I would of expect at least clean towels. The property owner was responsive before the stay not after

John has done a great job creating a getaway spot that is remote and has the perfect balance of modern amenities (you certainly are not “roughing it”) while still maintaining a rustic feel and limiting entertainment technology. The big outdoor space and swimming pond are great for hiking, playing, and lounging and the indoor space in cozy with plenty of beds and seating. There is a big table for meals, games, and puzzles and they kitchen is very well stocked with all the usual kitchen items you might need. We absolutely loved our stay!

Photos and description doesn’t do this place justice! Cabin was great and views/property were unbelievable. Perfectly secluded and rustic but we had everything we needed to have an amazing time. Owner responsive and helpful, we will be back!

My husband and I (along with our 2 goldens) rented this off grid cabin for almost a week in mid-September. What a beautiful location, and gorgeous cabin. The property has trails, which my dogs loved, a swimming pond (we weren't there 5 minutes and they were jumping in) and feels like you are in the middle of nowhere. The cabin is "off grid" but still has hot water, electricity for lights (one outlet, we used to charge our phones), flushing toilet and a propane fridge and stove. It was perfect. We cooked breakfast every morning and set out for the day. Finding beautiful lakes, state parks and views of rolling hills and farms. There are 2 markets in town but we were cooking dinner most nights so we went to the price chopper, about 25 min away, usually on our way home. Some things to remember: we brought our own sheets/towels (which during covid was actually preferable), if you are swimming (or have dogs that will be), bring extra towels. My husband got service out in the yard, I did not, he made a few phone calls and looked a few things up but for the most part we 'unplugged' for the week and relied on our trusty atlas when we were out exploring. And lastly, bring layers. The mornings were chilly out walking the dogs or having coffee on the deck but the afternoons were in the mid 70s. Thanks so much John for opening up your beautiful cabin for others to enjoy. We really had such a wonderful week.

I am not sure where to begin. The cabin is beautiful, spacious and brilliantly laid out. The photos do not do it justice. John, the owner and builder of this cabin was accessible and kind. You can feel that it was built with thought, skill and love. The kitchen is great and well stocked for cooking. A reading nook for kids, a dog crate if you come with a dog, a great shower, beautiful fire place and fantastic porch view for sunrise over the pond and behind the mountains lining the horizon. The games and toys made rainy afternoons fun and refreshing for young kids. The pond was teeming with tad poles and many beautiful butterflies and neon blue dragon flies and a few frogs which delighted the kids. There are fields of wild flowers and just walking around the property is stunning. Every morning, from the porch, you can sit and watch this mist settle over the mountains surround the property. There are trails right off the property, but with our little kids we didnt explore them this visit. The fire pit with comfy chairs was lovely. Beds were comfortable, with sky lights in 2/4 bedrooms. A chalk board in the loft had my kids playing school for hours.
Beautiful landscaping with peonies, irises and lilies by the side entrance, a fun drive up the road past a house with all sorts of odd chickens, stunning nature and exciting wildlife all in your backyard. Close by there are fun outings and a stunning beach at Willoughby lake. This was a one of a kind vacation and we are all so excited to return to this wonderful cabin!

We can’t say enough great things about our stay in Sutton!! The cabin is perfect and had everything we needed to be comfortable. The ample open land and views were spectacular. Just what we needed to reset and get away for a few days. And our dogs loved it too!!
