The SeaDog Inn-Spectacular Oceanfront Villa

Our stay at Seadogs was everything we expected and more. Myself, my husband and our three kids aging from 13-17 loved our trip from NJ to Cabrera.
Pros- The view is amazing of the ocean. All the palm trees surrounding the property are mesmerizing. We spend 90 percent of our time in the yard. We only used the house to sleep and shower. The Casita off the main villa is awesome. The view and beautiful breeze that comes through with windows open is amazing. Lucy and Anderson are exceptional people. They are so kind and accommodating. Every morning they would have the coffee brewed and breakfast cooking. It was such a treat. Lucy would ask if we would like dinner that night and we did have her cook for us all but 3 nights. We went out to some exceptional restaurants in town. I suggest Playa Grande for beach. It was the best beach we went to by far. We also visiting Dudú lagoon which was awesome. And we did the quads through the town with KingQuad. Anderson joined us to drive one of our kids.
Con’s—The kitchen and master room upstairs had a ton of tiny tiny ants. We didn’t have many warm showers, power went out like 4 times during our stay. No board games, puzzles or yard games. Dog poop was picked up by me from property dog after sitting for 2 days. Biggest con is stairs are broken to get down to the private beach. Lots of garage down there. It would be nice to be able to access that as it was advertised to be a private beach. Although view was spectacular!

We did a fair amount of research prior to committing to the Seadog. My wife and I had been to the DR several times, mostly staying at upscale resorts in Punta Cana. This was the first visit for our two teenaged children and my mother-in-law. We were looking for something more immersed in the local experience, and we found it.
Our group of five had a great time. We spent plenty of time connecting and spending time together at the property. It is designed for plenty of group interaction at the bar, pool and patio. But it is spacious enough to give everyone plenty of leeway to spend their own time reading or relaxing alone as well. The five bedrooms are split into four bedrooms in the main house and a separate mini-house with the final room, which is where my wife and I stayed. It is right at the edge of the cliff overlooking the ocean. This is an undersold feature of the property and one of our favorite amenities.
Lucy and Anderson are as good as advertised. They are friendly, knowledgeable about the local area, and great hosts. We ate breakfast at the villa everyday and had dinner there all but four nights, when we ate at local restaurants with excellent suggestions and guidance from the two of them.
Prior to going, we had seen reviews describing the Seadog as rustic. That is a good description. Lucy and Anderson keep everything clean and in working order, but it is not a five-star resort, nor is it trying to be. We enjoyed the authentic local living experience, and we regularly headed into Cabrera to the Super Mercado, restaurants, town waterfront, just to take a walk, etc., interacting with the locals in the process. That is exactly what we were looking to do.
We did opt for the rental car and used it often. We went to Playa Grande / Playa Preciosa multiple times. It is about a 15 minute drive. It is a very nice beach area with a great sandy bottom and in-water experience. We went more more distant excursions to snorkel and to go canyoning (at Magic Mushroom, which you should consider if adventurous). Those attractions are out toward Sosua and an hour or more by car. By design, we were looking to be off the beaten path and many of the biggest tourist attractions are further way. There are great beaches, Laguna Dudu (worth a trip), some limited snorkeling right at the Seadog beach and other close-by activities, to be sure. But be prepared to drive to others.
Overall, we loved our experience and would definitely do it again.

Julia does an outstanding job managing this property! The food was superb, Lucy is an amazing cook.. we did eat out one night, but actually regretted it due Lucy’s fantastic cooking.. Anderson was also great, from make fish/lobster runs, to the way he takes such great care of the property.. We did have a few hot water shower issues, but overall the Seadog was very enjoyable place to stay.. I was skeptical due to all the great reviews, but I found them all to be very truthful.. Julia does a great job with this place!!

What can I say? The Sea Dog Inn is great. I arrived stressed to the max but a couple days by the pool listening to the waves crash in the cove below had me totally relaxed in a couple days. Julia is the best and makes sure your stay is everything you want. She put together a list of all the available activities with pricing so we could review and decide what we wanted to do ... She then helped to arrange it. We also got to experience a true DR pig roast up at the farm. Anderson and Lucy are just the best! Need a bag of ice?..off on the scooter Anderson goes to the store. Lucy prepared some amazing meals. We were a group of adults and the property is big enough to allow privacy but also has several common areas to mingle. Definitely going to return as soon as I can.

The property is well managed by Julia who is very friendly and a fantastic host. She made us feel welcomed and well-taken care of. She was available almost 24/7 to make recommendations and to help with wifi and other issues with the house like balancing hot and cold water properly and the use of the oven and grill. Lucy and Anderson are always in the house to make meals, clean, take care of the property, and anything else we needed almost anytime. We highly recommend for a large family or like us a family of 4 with each of our children bringing a friend. Cabrera is a hard-working but friendly town with great beaches and near some great activities like zip lining, monkey feeding, and snorkeling or scuba diving. You can use USD's everywhere but not credit cards. However, the ATM's dispenced Dominican pesos from your checking account with your bank's ATM card. The only recommendations we have is for the owner to add more blinds or curtains to some windows to keep out the sun early in the morning. Everything else was perfect! If we did not have so many places to visit we would definitely be back. Muchas gracias por todo!!!

So I have 3 issues with this place- first issue- all the rules! So as soon as you get there (well not first thing as soon as you get there- the first thing as soon as you get there is they met us at the door with many daiquiris)- but they then set you down and go over all these rules- so the rules are: #1 no work- #2 you have to relax- and #3 you can't worry- really?? People these days still have those rules? Like those are not the type rules that we are use to- but Julia can be pretty persuasive- so we didn't want to rock the boat- and she made us follow those rules the whole time we were there! So second issue is that we only booked for 4 nights- now I know that is crazy- if you go to the Sea Dog, you will wish that you (MUST) stay at least 7 nights- you will be disappointed if you do not stay for prolong time frames- I'm not sure what we were thinking- 4 nights? So issue three is that VBRO will only allow 5 stars? That is not enough stars for Sea Dog? If 5 is the best then this place is a 7 or more! Seriously Julia and her staff are the best! The home is beautiful, large and roomy with fantastic views of the water- and very clean. And Julia knows all the cool places to visit (and there are many beautiful beaches within minutes of the Sea Dog)- they will help coordinate every meal if wanted- they can handle transportation from and back to the airport and even the rental car (but of course they will want to drive you around so as not to violate those 3 sacred rules of hers). So while we are fortunate and we can travel anywhere over the globe- this is the very first place my wife has said- "we are coming back here again soon!" - ok so if you know my wife, well I guess that is another new rule. Julia we will see you guys again very soon- thank you so much for allowing us to stay and for making us "follow the rules!"

Had excellent customer service from Julia, Lucy and Andy. They made the entire family feel at home. Nothing beats the view. Great beaches nearby. The house is a little old and had some power issues but the ACs worked great at night. Unbeatable value. Counts down to go back next year!

When we decided on the DR for my 40th birthday destination we were looking for something removed from the more touristy areas. We wanted to experience the true culture and have some space to spread out on our long trip. We couldn't have picked a better town or property. Not only was the house more spacious than we thought, it had lots of fun surprises and was extremely well maintained to be a true beach front property. Lucy and Anderson's genuinely happy willingness to go out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed provided us with a very stress free existence at the Sea Dog. Not to mention Lucy has a true talent when it comes to cooking, don't miss out on it.
Those things themselves would have made for a great stay. What made it absolutely perfect was the house manager Julia. Honest, fun, crazy Julia. She was our EVERYTHING. In retrospect I'm not sure how we would have navigated through without her. I think her goal in life is to make sure her guests don't get taken advantage of by vendors on the beach or in any of the towns. She made sure we were treated fairly everywhere we went and also that we understood the etiquette and culture to avoid any mishaps. Julia also kept a very thorough book of our charges for groceries etc and backed it up with saving the receipt for everything and making sure we always knew where we stood. She gave us tons of options for things to do but wasn't pushy towards an itinerary. She was just there to help. I have rented a lot of vacation houses around the world and never encountered someone as wonderful and accommodating as Julia. We just got home and are missing her so badly we might just book a flight and go right back. Thank you Julia, Lucy and Anderson for helping us have the time of our lives. We will be back.

Stunning Property, Exceptional Staff!!!
Book your next vacation at the Seadog. The pictures don’t do it justice and you won’t be disappointed. The only problem I had was that I wasn’t there long enough.
Not only is the place right on the ocean, the property is gorgeous, the pool is clean and well maintained and the house has everything you need. Totally exceeded all expectations. That being said, the real win was the wonderful people I had the pleasure of meeting.
Anderson and Lucy are fantastic. They keep the place clean and gorgeous, they are extremely helpful and always made sure I had everything needed. I can’t thank them enough. :)
Julia, the property manager, might be one of the most lovely people I’ve ever met. She is super warm, welcoming and an absolute gem. She would always check in with me to see if I needed groceries, and most importantly, ice cold Presidente. She made vacation my exactly what I was looking for and is the reason I will be going back sooner than I should.
If you’re serious about getting a place in the Dominican and want a gorgeous place to relax in the sun, look no further. This is where you want to be.

Family vacation of a lifetime!!!
Tom and I traveled to the Dominican Republic with our three kids, ages 17, 18 and 20. We were a bit apprehensive about renting a home in a village versus staying in a resort, but when our taxi (furnished with drinks for our trip from the airport - just over an hour away) arrived at the Sea Dog Inn, we were welcomed by Julia, Pearl and Anderson with refreshing fruity drinks and prepared snacks and that's when our worries began to slip away. We found the property on VRBO and were instantly attracted to the beauty of the house, the infinity pool overlooking the Caribbean and the Jimmy Buffett theme! But what really made the vacation a memory we will treasure forever, was the staff. We cannot say enough amazing things about Julia. She is irreplaceable as the manager of this property. Without her, we would not have experienced half of the things that we did during our stay there. From taking us out on the town at night (Marcelo's!!!), to arranging a horseback ride up into the mountains to have an authentic creole lunch cooked over an open fire at a lovely Dominican family's home, to taking videos of our family's first plunge into the Caribbean, she was not only our guide, but someone we became fast friends with. She arranged for us to have a spa day at the house, she prepared some amazing authentic Dominican food for us, and showed us all of the hot spots throughout Cabrera. Even her husband, Junior, joined us for some excursions. At one of the beaches, Playa Diamante, he, Anderson, Tom and our boys all played baseball with several Dominican boys for 2 hours! Using a stick and tennis ball, with 3rd base in the water, they had a blast! When we talk about our vacation, we talk about how much we miss Julia and her family. We also talk so much about Anderson. He is the groundskeeper of the property, but he did so much more! He helped us to get groceries, came with us to dinner one night when we weren't sure where to go, got us binoculars when we saw the humpback whales breaching in the ocean beyond the pool on the property, fixed the hot water when it wasn't so hot, and, along with Julia and her husband, taught us how to dance, Dominican style.
With three older teenagers vacationing with their parents, the property allowed for us all to have our own space, while still coming together by the pool and bar/patio area. Truly, this was a trip that brought us all together in a beautiful setting making wonderful memories...we wish we could go back already!

5 Star Views, 3.5 Star Accomodations
We had 9 adults (all family) and absolutely loved our experience. However, you must remember DR is not up to US standards. That said, the house views are breath taking and our House Manager was great but, there are some things you need to know. The a/c went out every night as we were told it was connected to the government controlled system. The house smells a bit musty and some of the furniture was sagging or broken. The rental cars are substandard - one we rented actually used propane and some odd way to start it - we eventually had to switch and pay more for a gas vehicle. They were also full of ants. If you can look beyond that, you are in for a treat. The DR landscape is like none other - absolutely incredible. Once we got used to the way of life, we enjoyed ourselves and all the DR had to offer.

We had the most memorable holiday at the Sea Dog Inn. The home was perfect for our families great common areas for games and social time and plenty of private space for quiet reflection. The people of Cabrera were so friendly, helpful and fun we would go back every year if we could. Thank you Julia, Lucy and Anderson for welcoming us into your home and community it was amazing!

Perfect Oceanside Villa - also affordable
The Seadog Inn is has a amazing view of the ocean as it sits at the center of a cove. The wave action is spectacular and will take away all the stress that you brought with you to this piece of paradise. We were fortunate enough to see whales this trip as they migrate this time of year. Can't say enough about Julia and her staff. She is a great host with a bright smile and is a "subject matter expert" on Cabrera and the north cost. She answered all our questions and is very creative when it comes to a food plan. Make sure you have Maximo cut down a coconut and make you a rum drink!

Beauty, Culture, and Relaxing...undeniably an amazing place to experience the true DR
My first experience with the Sea Dog was through its owner Chester. He's was extremely accommodating and was fast to reply to our families many questions! He also provided a ton of information about the area and its culture. After the trip, he followed up to ensure we enjoyed our stay, as well as, called the house manger (Julia) to check on us!
The house is amazing. Very comfortable for the 10 adults we had and the view was to die for, absolutely phenomenal! The casita is exceptional. Waking up to the view it provides is a dream! The house is situated on a cliff overlooking the ocean and the beautiful sunrises! The house staff (Julia, Lucy, & Maximo) were superb! I would highly recommend having them provide dinner (Julia and Lucy cook a killer lasagna), all meals were amazing and filling! We also had breakfast which was a great idea, and if you want something besides a traditional breakfast (toast, fruit, eggs, bacon) all you have to do is request it! Julia & Lucy were very accommodating when we asked to prepare a particular meal or change the scheduled menu. Julia was very detail oriented and always ensured we had everything we needed. She handled setting up all transportation, the excersions, as well as, the additional groceries we requested on the way in.
We never felt threatened or unsafe (Maximo and the watchman were great). Chester will tell you, so make sure you listen...Don't pet the cats!! Lil Diablito is an amazing older dog that makes sure you are aware if someone or something is in the yard and will chase it off. The Wi-Fi, plumbing, and electrical is not up to US standard or the Americanized resorts, but in no means does it deter from the experience.
Thank you Chester and Staff for an amazing trip and treating my family like your own! Look forward to our next visit!!

A Week in Paradise
From the moment we arrived in the Dominican we knew we were in good hands with The Sea Dog Inn. Our driver was waiting at the airport with air-conditioned transportation to hold 8 of us and lots of luggage! Cold beer, water and soda in the van was very welcome after a long day or travelling. Upon arrival at the Sea Dog we were greeted by Nicole, Julia and staff with delicious drinks and a fabulous prepared meal that we had prearranged.
The property is breathtaking, very well kept by Maximo (he's awesome!), with spectacular view of the ocean from many different vantage points. We were travelling with two families, and four kids so it was great to have so many different areas on the property to congregate, or find some solace. Many hours were spent poolside, or exploring our own private beach.
We were very glad to have chosen to stay in Cabrera versus a populated resort as it allowed us to immerse ourselves more in the culture of the Dominican. Day trips were taken to Playa Grande, Play Entrada, Laguna Dudu and Cabarete. The staff was more than helpful in arranging transportation for us, Ferlon being our favorite driver :) We had no problem shopping at the local market for meals cooked at home, ordering in pizza when we didn't want to cook and trying out some local restaurants (Manny's is a MUST!)
This was our first trip to the Dominican but it certainly won't be our last! Chester was amazing to work with before and during our trip, always very responsive to any question. Hope to visit the Sea Dog again in the future.

Romantic, Scenic, and Adventurous! What more can you ask for?
We chose the Sea Dog in for our much needed vacation. It provided us with exactly what we wanted! The place is beautiful, comfortable, and secluded. The view of the ocean is so magnificent and can be viewed from many different places. The sunrise suite is so romantic and beautiful! You can view the ocean from the bed or the comfy bench on the porch, or even from the outdoor shower. We enjoyed our morning coffee on the chairs in between the pool and ocean and lounged around by the pool and bar. so many places to sit, read, watch the ocean, or just chill. You can never get bored of the crashing waves. We woke up in the upstairs master suite to a gorgeous sunrise each morning. It was so peaceful!
Chester was extremely helpful, patient, and his communication was perfect and greatly appreciated. He was happy to answer all my (many) questions prior to our visit.
And the staff! Ferlon is a great driver. He has a great personality and he knew just what we would enjoy. Very pleasant. He added so much to our vacation. Julia was amazing too! She was very helpful and sweet and she made she made the most amazing fruit salad! The local fruits are just heaven. Julia and Ferlon took us on a motorcycle ride and showed us the area. We enjoyed experiencing the local culture with them. Maximo prepared us coconuts to drink. It was delicious and very refreshing.
All in all it was a great stay! There is so much to see and experience in the area. We are glad we took advantage of so much. We visited the Magic Mushroom with Iguana Mama. That was a very adventurous trip! Ferlon took us around to local attractions too. We visited Gri Gri lagoon, some beaches (We loved Playa Entrada), and of course the waterfall where we watched the kids jump. We also went Scuba diving in Sosua.
We left feeling like we had the best of all words; romance, adventure, and an appreciation for the local culture and people. Thanks, guys, for making our dream come true!
Highly recommended!!!

Lush Sprawling Paradise on the Ocean's Edge
We arrived to find the colorful establishment tucked behind a children’s school and a lush palm grove. Maximo, the innkeeper, greeted us graciously and maintained the same positive and helpful attitude throughout our stay. There were many sleeping rooms to choose from, three in the downstairs main house (one includes its own bathroom, the other two share a bathroom,) the luxurious master bedroom/spa bathroom upstairs offers a large and private sundeck, and then of course there is the smaller private cabana perched right on the ocean’s edge. The downstairs living room couch boast an elaborate train of pillows as well as a nice sound system and TV with ample stations. The Sea Dog is appropriately decorated with kitchy pirate and island themed flags, banners, and posters. The colors of the Sea Dog (seafoam green, salmon, and light yellow) compliment the surrounding flowers and the nearby ocean water. This brings me to the highlight of this fine Inn…. THE INFINITY POOL OVERLOOKING THE OCEAN! You can gradually walk into the warm pool like entering the sea and float around for hours or read a book under the man-made waterfall. When my young cousins arrived they were ecstatic over “la piscina” and spent all day splashing and playing on the multitude of pool floats. In my times out of the water I would lounge on one of the multiple lawn chairs or the sitting hammock. On my first day Maximo even cut me down a coconut and stuck a straw in it, the fresh coconut milk/water was delicious. The pool and patio not only offer a breathtaking view of the ocean and surrounding cliffs… there is a staircase down to your own private beach. It is a small rocky beach, and it is all yours, sometimes you can see boats, cruise ships, or lobster hunters out in the distance but no one comes ashore. Just a short drive from the Sea Dog are many local hotspots such as Playa Grande (the most stunning beach!,) a great tiki pizza place (2 for 1 on Wednesdays,) La Hotel Catalina (has a divine restaurant,) Manny’s (excellent bar and restaurant) and Lagoon Gri Gri (where you can take a boat ride through caves to a local beach.) At the Sea Dog there is a grill and a full kitchen, so you can also choose to eat every meal at home if you are not in the mood to explore or spend more money. The Sea Dog is a beautiful and affordable paradise in a gorgeous location, perfect for families or a zen getaway.

Spectacular experience
Authentic charm and relaxing atmosphere are the key elements that make this property special. You have the feel of being at a beach resort, tropical and lush. Yet you are spoiled by having private and exclusive access to the beautiful house, warm and welcoming staff, and amazing view.
This is the perfect location with amenities for large groups. Plenty of space for privacy and quiet when needed and desired, yet fantastic space for being social. The Bone Bar, pool, and living room inspired fun games and conversations with our group. As did the dining room where we all enjoyed the home cooked meals by a staff of talented and friendly cooks.
Felon (trusted-driver) was accessible and ready to take us any where we wanted. He is quite knowledgeable about local areas, must see spots, and culture. He took us to a nearby beach and arranged for a fabulous lunch of lobster, salad, and specialty drinks. Was truly one of the best days of our trip!
Nicole made sure daily that we had everything we needed and wanted. She made sure fresh food was brought in daily and helped suggest lunch and dinner menus. Her focus was making sure everyone was having fun and had everything they desired.
Before leaving, I polled the group for feedback and everyone was very happy with the accommodations, food, service, location, atmosphere, etc.. We felt pampered, relaxed, and all of us left smitten with the Dominican Republic.

Family Vacation!!
We spent a week at the Seadog Inn which was absolutely perfect. We were a family of seven adults, the house was awesome with enough room for each of us to have private time if we wanted it. The view from the house was breathtaking, we were fortunate enough to see plenty of whales from the pool, which was awesome. Chester, the owner was helpful from beginning to end. The house staff were wonderful and always cheerful and kind. Maximo was always there for us if we had any needs. The only kind I can say it was absolutely perfect!!! We would go back in a heartbeat. Thanks Chester and his staff for the great experience.

AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME
AWESOME awesome, awesome, Jimmy Buffet would be proud. There were 10 of us who stayed very comfortably at the Sea Dog Inn. We started to plan this trip in January 2014 and Chester was supportive, helpful, and provided so much information and reassurance for us. We travelled to the Sea Dog Inn on December21/2014 and stayed until January 4/2015. From the moment we landed in the Dominican, Chester had arranged for us to be picked up at the airport, driven to the Sea Dog Inn, where Natalia and her helpers had a wonderful meal prepared for us and made an amazing Christmas dinner for us. They kept the Sea Dog Inn clean, comfortable, and helped us with all our needs. Maximo greeted us with a warm Sea Dog Inn welcome. We enlisted Maximo’s instructions to learn to play the game of dominoes. All 10 of us were comfortable, and Felon assisted us with rental cars, and arranging us to meet contacts. Chester ensured our stay was perfect and had Nicole assist us with the language. All of us concluded best Family Vacation ever, and were so glad that the Sea Dog Inn was our travel destination. We would not consider staying anywhere else when we return to the Dominican. We so much appreciate all and staying at the Sea Dog Inn allowed us to experience life in Caberra, rather than staying in a hotel. We felt safe and were treated very respectfully in Caberra, I would recommend any gringos to stay at the Sea Dog Inn. There was plenty to do with awesome beaches very nearby, Natalia, and several restaurants provided us with gourmet meals. Upon arriving home, we have all decided to plan for our next Sea Dog Inn adventure.
