Loved the candles and log fires in the dining area and the bedrooms. Staff were great too, especially Muhammad

Beautiful view and gardens with terraces and a hammock which was much appreciated as we visited during an unexpected heatwave . The food was very good indeed and plentiful and the decor is gorgeous too, We had a lovely welcome from Josephine the owner who built the place with local people and materials and has filled Irvin with cosy and colourful Berber textiles .
The main member of staff we interacted with was a bit pushy about what we should and shouldn’t do or have and seemed determined that meals should be over as soon as possible.

The house itself is amazing and the view is great. The food was really tasty (best chicken tagine we had in a week in Morocco).
Almost no useful guidance on how to reach the place, about 200 steps also makes it a bit tricky if you have large luggage. The room was not ready when we arrived (after 3pm) and there was a bit of confusion. Dinner is served at 7pm sharp and staff is very much in a rush to do it.

We loved the incredible location and very unique rooms. Every nook and cranny of the Douar was cosy and individual. Next time we will stay for longer!
It was a bit difficult to find because of the old sign post but friendly locals helped us to find our way. The only disappointment was that the hamam was not available during our stay.

A very relaxing place. Staff were lovely. The food was fantastic. As it was cold in the evenings, the fire in our room was wonderful.

Breakfast simple but delicious with fresh jams of quince and apricot.
The service was a little perfunctory... the least warm of all our stays in Morocco.

traditional decoration and arrangement of bedrooms, bathrooms and living areas. excellent food!

Totally rustic and romantic, tucked into the mountains with an incredible view. The food is delicious, and in the evening it is group dining with the other guests which is really enjoyable. The way the building was made is incredible, and the authenticity of the whole place was wonderful! The staff were helpful and helped with planning walks. The best part… you get to fall asleep with a crackling fire in your bedroom!
Be sure to know there is no electricity in some rooms (which we thought was rather fun, but just an FYI. There is places to charge devices in the kitchen area). Not about the property as such, but if you are booking a walking tour, be SURE to check with your guide the route you are going. We thought we had planned a relaxed long walk, however ended up a very challenging climb, which was pretty scary and not what was expected! Our guide was amazing nonetheless, and helped a lot with challenging parts.

Unique location, amazing views of the valley. Lovely guide who they provided on our trek. Great food and enjoyed the communal dining. Our room (treehouse) was really cosy and the bed was super comfy.
Splitting hairs, but they could signpost it a little better from the road.

Unusual ethnotourism locale. The food was wonderful, the views were good.
Not for the faint hearted. The local is down a steep unpaved abd unmarked way, it is not a path, it is littered with sheep dung, after rain it is slippery . The building itself has no electricity except one outlet near the kitchen. All the rooms have funny smell. The facilities are there in name but I doubt all that need them actually use them. The ceilings are uneven, if you are taller then 175cm my advice is to walk with your hand before and above you, as in my family 3 taller men bumped their heads. The staff seen nice but do not seem to understand English. I understand this is ethnotourism, but if so the difficulties should be emphasized. It is unfair to let the the guests find the difficulties mentioned above when they are on locale and after having paid. To be fair the other guests in the hotel seemed happy , but I did not poll their opinions.

This peaceful, quiet guest house was the perfect base for day hikes in the High Atlas Mountains. We purposely selected a guest room that's lit by candles, not electricity (though it turned out there were a couple of lamps and helpful outlets for charging devices!), so we were prepared for the rustic charm of the accommodations. That said, we were really comfortable there: the shower was hot, the beds were super cozy, and we were provided with fuzzy fleece djellabas in our room. All our meals were delicious, and the staff was incredibly helpful with everything we asked for: booking a guide for our hike, providing bag lunches, and even lighting an out-of-season fire in our room when it got rainy and chilly. I read reviews that said the location was hard to find, but we arranged transportation from Marrakech through Douar Samra (Hicham, our driver, was excellent and experienced, and made us feel safe on the winding mountain roads) and someone met us at the drop-off point to help with luggage and escort us to the property. Mohammed and Omar made us feel truly welcomed at Douar Samra, and we were sad to leave.
We loved the remote location and the small, stony paths through the village of Tamartert. If accessibility is an issue for you, though, this isn't the place to stay.

Douar Samra is a wonderful base to explore the High Atlas. The staff was very friendly. The view from the terrace is picture perfect.
Our room lacked electricity, which added to the magic of being in such a remote place.

Wasn't sure what to expect from this property -- and was very impressed. Given the topography of the local area, it's no surprise that this property is situated on a hillside. The main entrance is accessible from the road via a walkable path from the road down to the property. The town center and various other hillside villages are nearby. The feel of the property is traditional Berber and is decorated with local items -- definitely provides a mountain living vibe. There is no electricity in the rooms, but outlets are available to charge phones, etc, in the kitchen and several other rooms. Otherwise, the property offers all the usual amenities and then some. Eating and living by candlelight is great! Mountain/valley views from the roof terrace and room balconies are spectacular. The meals were top notch and mostly traditional Berber meals (tagines, vegetable dishes, breads, etc). The staff were very helpful with moving baggage and in facilitating mountain guides, mules, picnic lunches, for hikes...even on short notice. One particular guide arranged for by the property, Hassan, of Toubkal Ascent guides, was very professional and knowledgeable and is highly recommended.
One small observation is that the description on booking.com references free parking, however, parking offered upon arrival was on the roof of a neighboring building at a modest cost of 20 moroccan dirhams (about 1.80 euro or 2.00 USD) per day.

Very good place to stay if you want to feel how local people are living in the village among the mountains, having beaufitul views on mountains and garden, and helpful personnel around as well as positive people who are living in these mountain villages. Very nice mountain and excursion guides Driis and Hassan, who will help you with anything, tell a lot of interesting stories and information about Morocco and local specifics, and always help in more difficult mountain tracks. Several tracks are starting near the place. Good and tasty breakfast and dinner as well.
Everything was very good, but suggestion to double check if the personnel always understands what you wish to ask for in English. And having no electricity in most of the rooms is quite good and unusual experience, and even romantic, but it is also quite important that all guests knows this before arriving.

Loved the all inclusive package for bed, breakfast and dinner. Very good value, delicious food, well looked after. Absolute treat to have fire lit in our bedroom as the evening got colder, and kept us warm all night. We spent many hours in the comfortable and warm communal area meeting fellow travellers and planning excursions. Perfect for complete relaxation.
We were lucky to get thick snow when we were there - made the place even more special.

We would stay here again for sure!! The nooks and crannies where you could sit in different parts of the property were so cute. The owner Jacquline greeting every guest at dinner, madr it feet special like we were at home. The included breakfast & dinner is an extremely good value and helpful given you are in a village. The garden with with beautiful flowers, tomatoes & herbs was great to see your food :) it is so peaceful and quiet, coming from a city it was some of the best sleep I've had. It's romantic for a couple yet perfect for quality family time with kids or a solo travel looking to escape busy life.
Not a huge deal but a point to note- It is a hike down from where a car drops you to an entrance and back up whenever you leave the property. I would have preferred not to have to lug any of our luggage up/down. Even though my husband can, he is on vacation too and would have preferred staff to step in or have a donkey to assist when we left. The path is not fully built out or have lights when it's dark, but that's also maybe part of the experience when you choose a village.
