I don’t know what it is about this place. We have stayed in 5 star resorts, beautiful airbnbs and quite frankly terrible mid level hotels but this hostel is by far one of my favourites around the world. The location is convenient for the airport, I think that’s why most people stay here, but on a busy travel schedule, I find myself wanting to stay here for 2/3 days and just chill out. It’s so homely, the staff are unreal. They will do anything for you in the most subtle way. The showers are warm, the coffee is perfect, the breakfast is an absolute highlight.
Its pricing is not reflective of the quality. It’s so clean and the facilities are good. I’m working on the move and the internet was sufficient to go through a VPN and have a call. The type of people who are staying here are pleasant, friendly and warm. If you wanted company, you would feel comfortable saying hello, if you didn’t, you’d feel comfortable not saying hello.
It’s an all round gem.
We are from London, so we are comfortable following global city protocol, not having phones out while walking or being obnoxiously drunk, therefore, the area is fine. But they do have a sensitivity to area, they kindly meet us on the street to make sure we arrived safely and prewarned us about etiquette in the area. Honestly - it’s safe. I’m white British and I have walked around the area in quite nice clothing, dined, drank coffee, shopping etc… so whilst I appreciated the heads up, i feel maybe this would spook some people, so this is a message to say: the area is SAFE but used your head, you’re in a global city and when they contact you to say be careful, they’re not saying that to be like keep your head down and run to the hostel, it’s merely a courtesy message. Do not worry or panic.

Mama is so kind and welcoming. The whole place was spotless. Fully equipped kitchen to use, and mama makes a lovely breakfast. Common areas are big and comfy, and I was allowed to check in early. The beds are comfy, with plugs, lights and curtains on each bed. Big lockers, a nice shared bathroom. A spacious rooftop, and a good location between the airport and Plaza Norte bus terminal. Oh, and she has some very cute cats!

This hostel really deserves its reviews. The owners were so friendly and welcoming, and I felt super comfortable there.
The location is also great and not too far from the airport. The shower pressure is strong. There are water coolers on every floor. There was strong AC in the room. Also privacy curtains, which I always appreciate.
The breakfast was absolutely amazing. It honestly felt like a hotel-style continental breakfast. Mindblowing for a budget hostel.
The wifi was a bit choppy in certain parts of the building, but worked fine in my room.

The place itself is very good but it's the people make it excellent. Mama is a beautiful person with big heart. Papa makes the best bread in Peru! We stayed here 3 times in a two months period. Delicious breakfast served every morning, big kitchen where we could make our food but also great and cheap vegetarian restaurant just across the street. Common area is super spacious and cozy. Mama also let us to leave our luggage there when we left to the coast. Everything was beautiful and easygoing. We highly recomment Mama Backpackers!!! <3

This hostel is exceptional! The common areas are so beautiful with murals, comfortable seating, canaries, cooking area and much more
Mama herself is so warm hospitable and helpful. It is very easy to feel at home here.
Well, the neighborhood is not that great, but it's so near the airport, which is good. If you want to be near the airport in Lima this what it's like. There are good restaurants nearby. The hostel itself is very safe and Mama will help with taxis etc

The best hostel on our whole trip - mama was so welcoming and helped us with several issues. Also the breakfast was really good. We loved our stay, thanks mama!

Great communication before my stay. The place is so comfortable; including beds, common areas and and cooking facilities. The most amazing benefit is Mama herself. She is a great source of information, very attentive to the welfare of guests and very near the airport. Highly recommended!
Well, nothing really. The neighborhood is not great, but that's because it's near the airport. Safety is not an issue if you just take taxis, which Mama can help with a lot.
Will definitely come back there while passing through Lima.

After two weeks of traveling around Peru we were happy to stay in a non-touristy part of town 15 minutes from the airport. Mama was so welcoming and it felt more like you were staying at your grandmother's house instead of a regular hotel. Her hot is spotless and she is always checking in with you to make sure that you are OK. We chose this hotel based on the proximity to the airport and reviews about the hospitality. On the way there, our taxi driver from the airport told us that it was a bad neighborhood and offered to get us a better hotel near the airport. This is usually done so that the drivers can get commission from the hotel. The area doesn't look like Miraflores or central Lima but it is full of locals, plenty of markets, and tons of restaurants with an amazing Venezuelan restaurant across the street. We didn't feel unsafe and walked around the neighborhood a few times, just use your street smarts! I would recommend it to anyone that needs a place to stay close to the airport. Gracias mamá!
It was a great place to stay!

Mama's was great! The staff were friendly, courteous, and very hospitable. Breakfast was made for our convenience and we were treated to a special Christmas Eve feast. Posted throughout the hostel were writings from previous guests with artistic embellishments bt Mama.
The neighborhood was in rough condition with lots of trash on the road and sidewalks. We didn't venture far from the hostel but Akzo didn't need to.

Loved this property. It was fun and unique - it was very cheap, and a good value. The restaurant across the street and like one block down was amazing.
The hall light was automatic and there was a window above the door with no blinds, so if anyone walked down the hall, your entire room would light up.

Mama, who runs the hostel, is really friendly and helpful. breakfast was the best we have had in ages and the hostel is exceptionally clean.
the showers aren’t very powerful but the water is hot. wifi was also good. the only downside was the location, it’s safe but quite far from central Lima and other tourist areas however Ubers are cheap and a plus side is the hostel is closer to the airport than other areas.
showers not very powerful
location not great

Mama Backpackers is a wonderful, family-run hostel, not far from Lima airport. We appreciated a warm, hospitable atmosphere of the place. The owner, a lovely, very welcoming lady, was available in case of any questions. The place was cosy, quiet and clean. We were also served a nice homemade breakfast. Definitely recommended for a stay in Lima, especially if you're looking for an authentic, less touristy district and/or if you want to stay closer to the airport.

Probably the nicest people you have ever met and a very comfortable stay for a great night sleep. Nice common area too. Mama is incredibly caring and her house is lovely. Answered any questions, offered water as soon as I arrived. It was no trouble to look after my suitcase for 4 days while I went to iquitos. Also her husband woke up at 3am just to make sure I got my early uber to the airport and let me know when it had arrived so that I wasn't standing outside with my phone waiting. The location was superb for me for both plaza norte bus station and the airport. Both ubers from there were about 8 soles. I can't recommend this place enough. Phenomenal
Nothing. It was excellent.

Mama is the best, my fiancee got sick and she gave him some medicine. In addition to that, the breakfast was excellent. we had a variety of options.

Mama is so nice, really helped us. We did check in around 2 am. The breakfast is good, you get eggs butter, jam, and a fresh orange juice.
The location is a bit far from the center.
