We loved that we could cross the street and immediately be on the beach. The house’s outdoor shower, foot wash station, and washer/dryer on the bottom floor were all really helpful after lots of beach time. The space was clean and had a great kitchen and common area space. You can see parts of the ocean from the upper deck, and watch the moon rise over the water. Check in/out was easy.

The VRBO listing describes it to a T! Plenty of room for cars (6) and very close to the beach! Quiet neighborhood. Yes-there are a lot of stairs. No problem for us (oldest was in late 60s) but if someone has limited mobility it wouldn’t be a best pick. Can easily see the ocean on upper floors. (Enjoy your morning coffee). All appliances were working (sad that I have to say this-our last place at Nags Head managed by a realty company had broken washer before we walked in..and was not fixed or compensated.). The family all agreed this was our best vaca home in 4 years.

Great location. Just across from the beach access. Very clean unit with comfortable furniture. Kitchen had all we needed including crockpot, griddle, air fryer, hot air pop corn maker and toaster oven.
Great patio with ocean views and an ocean breeze to gather in the evening. There is also plenty of patio to get a little alone time.
The kitchenware is standard VRBO stuff. Nothing special but there is plenty of it. Many of the glasses have hard water stains. They are clean though.
The only minor issue we had is that the charcoal grill is very small.
Communication with the owners was great and they were very helpful.
Overall, I definitely recommend Beach Retreat West.

The house was just perfect, furnishings were nice. The beach access was across the street. You had an ocean view from the deck. We would definingly consider this house again. The owner responded quickly to my messages. The only negative is if someone has a problem with stairs there are a lot.

The house itself is really nice, beautifully decorated and there is plenty of space for the whole family. There are several sets of steps and it is kinda of exhausted to go from one level to another, so be prepared. The location is great, just a very short walk from the beach. Overall, we did enjoyed our stay, but did have some issues. The house was not ready by the time we had to check in(4pm), the cleaning ladies were in a rush still cleaning and by the time we went in we realized that it wasn’t dust well and the floors were not well cleaned. We could feel some sand on our feet and we found sand in every bathroom specially in the corners. We had to vacuum ourselves. Before leaving, cleaning crew told us that they had left the bath towels in the dryer and ask us if we could get them out for us to use. There were only seven towels for our family of twelve. The cleaning company owner realized that there were only seven and told me that he was gonna bring the rest in the morning. Well, it was 10:30am the next day and the towels weren’t being delivered yet, so I got in touch with the property manager and after a while the rest of the towels were delivered.
It’ll be great if every bed had a blanket just in case it’s needed. One last thing, I don’t understand why charge so much in cleaning and linen fees if we basically leave the house clean with all the rules posted to follow. We loved Emerald Island and our stayed at the house besides this couple of issues.

Beach Retreat West was the perfect beach house for the 11 of us (ages 10 to 80) to get together for a celebration of life event for my Mom who recently passed away. She loved the beach and there was no better way to celebrate her than to all get together for a beach vacation on her behalf! The house was the perfect size for everyone to spend time together and when you needed a little time to yourself there was plenty of space to do so and getting to the beach was just a quick walk across the street! Robin was a wonderful host, quickly answering any questions we had. Thank you Robin for sharing your home with us for this very special time!

Our family vacation was amazing. The location is optimal, house is clean and perfect for our family of 11. Kitchen was well stocked with supplies. The beach access was convenient for easy access to the beautiful beaches of the island. We will definitely be back!

Finally a house where everyone had a bed in an appropriate room! The huge “attic” bedroom with 2 singles at each end was a perfect spot for kids to sleep and play. All the other bedrooms were pleasant. The main living area was a good size, the kitchen well equipped with pots, etc. I wish there had been 2 more chairs to put at the dining table so 8 adults could have sat together rather than 2 having to sit at the “kids’” counter. The decks were great, especially the lower one outside 2 of the bedrooms which was a comfortably furnished shady hideaway. Ample parking. Best outdoor shower! And best of all, the house was only 1 house away from the beach access!

We love staying in Emerald Isle and this property was perfect for four generations to enjoy the beach together! The property is located just across the street (quiet residential) from a public beach access so our toddlers and 80-year-old grandmother could access it with ease (and we could run back for bathroom breaks!). Love that the laundry room is on the main floor (with a shower just outside). The four floors are a bit challenging if that’s a problem for your family but it also means we could spread out. We loved the loft twin beds for the kids to have their own space!
Note: There are no beach toys or chairs so be sure to bring your own. Also, the kitchen is well equipped with both a pod coffee maker and drip pot. a crockpot, and outdoor grill.
Linens: Our only negative thing was that the linens are not included as the listing says. There is an extra fee and you have to request those at booking. Note that the Linens company also leaves the linens in the driveway (they are not on the beds upon arrival).

Overall it was a good visit. Had a few issues with the linens but was addressed immediately by the owner. Had a few issues with some creepy crawlers but again was addressed immediately by owner. Had exterminator out the next morning. The view was awesome and access to the beach was great!! There is a lot of stairs might be a problem for someone with mobility issues. The beach house was clean and furniture was comfortable. Overall a very nice and relaxing trip !

Overall the stay was nice. But after booking Robin informed me there was an additional $160 charge to a linen company if we wanted sheets on the beds and towels of any variety. Which begs the question: why isn’t that included in the listing or in the price of the rental? Or, are people renting and sleeping in the beds without sheets and the cleanliness that that might entail? I, personally, don’t appreciate surprise fees after booking and I repeatedly read the listing to verify that that wasn’t mentioned, after the fee was sprung on us. While trying to sort out this issue, Robin was not communicative.
But the home itself was as pictured (there’s currently two photos of a kitchen in the listing. The updated kitchen is the accurate picture). The location is excellent. The updated portions of the house are very nice but the bedrooms and bathrooms are a little dated. Unfortunately, the pillows were also a little old, so plan accordingly.
But our group enjoyed the beach access and the common areas of the house. The deck is great to sit and watch the ocean. And the kitchen is well stocked with cooking supplies. Thanks for letting us stay!

Phenomenal location, great home, wonderfully responsive and communicative hosts! We were 4 adults and 4 young kids, and the home was spacious and convenient. Location and access to the beach is unbeatable! Outdoor shower was a huge plus. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and would highly recommend this beautiful home.

Emerald Isle and this property were a great location for a family. Easy access to the beach and not a far drive to activities like mini golf, the aquarium go cars, ferry rides and restaurants, food and ice cream! Renting bikes was very convenient!. We wish the property had beach chairs and some kind of protection to sit under on the beach. We would come back to Emerald Isle again!
